Rusty Syringes 479 Posted October 30, 2007 Is that good? Hell yeah it's good. I wanted to go with 2:38, but I don't think he'll bust 2:45.
Toro 3 Posted October 30, 2007 Hell yeah it's good. I wanted to go with 2:38, but I don't think he'll bust 2:45. What's the world record? also, his book is freaking awesome. There is a section about how is VO2 max is off the charts.

t.j 35 Posted October 31, 2007 what's the 2:46? Rusty's prediction, I guess. What's the Part 2 about? Has he run one before? If so, what was his time then?
Rusty Syringes 479 Posted October 31, 2007 what's the 2:46? I'm predicting a marathon finish at 2 hours and 46 minutes. Last year, an ignorant and undertrained Armstrong got owned but still managed to come in just under three hours thanks to his biology and some training. After that, he said he was going to take the next one seriously. His body is capable of going under 2 hours 30 minutes, but I'd have to see his training schedule before I'd be bold enough to say he could do that. World record is like 2:04 or something. He'd have to be training at like 180 miles a week and doing monster long runs doing sub 5-minute miles to even get close to that. I just don't think he has the time or ambition to do that kind of thing.
surferskin 31 Posted October 31, 2007 I just don't think he has the time or ambition to do that kind of thing. yeah, he's obviously proved in the past that he's unwilling to work/train hard and that he has no competitive fire.
Rusty Syringes 479 Posted October 31, 2007 yeah, he's obviously proved in the past that he's unwilling to work/train hard and that he has no competitive fire. What's he got to prove? Besides, he sure showed at last year's New York City marathon - for which he admitted he was undertrained and called it the most difficult athletic challenge of his life, even harder than the Tour - that he wasn't exactly busting ass to compete. Rusty Syringes 479 Posted October 31, 2007 but he still finished with a better time than you thought he would and he's said this year that he won't take it as lightly....why wouldn't you believe him? Where did I say that I didn't believe him? You seem to take issue with what I said regarding his preparations for last year's marathon. He has said he's taking this one more seriously, and I believe him. I noted that he's got the biology to run under 2:30, but I doubt that will happen because he'd have to pretty much be a professional runner to get there, and I don't think he's trying to be a professional runner, and he's never said he wanted to be a professional runner. Cdub100 3,996 Posted November 7, 2007 Rusty totally ripped on him last year. He didn't think lance had any chance to finish under 3 hours. Something about he wasn't training right yadda yadda yadda. Anyway Lance totally made rusty look like a fool and I guess he hasn't forgiven him.

Rusty Syringes 479 Posted November 7, 2007 You guys are such Armstrong-worshippping idiots with a serious lack of reading comprehension skills. I have not ripped on Lance's efforts this year one bit. I was trumpeting the fact that I accurately predicted his marathon time. And a 2:46 is pretty focking awesome. You fatbodies couldn't even imagine how hard it is to run a marathon, much less finish one in under three hours and even less than under 2:45. I'll bet most of you couldn't even complete a five-mile run. And, yes, I laughed at Lance last year for thinking he could easily blast through some marathon while not getting his long runs up to the 20-mile range, and I was dead-on accurate. He ADMITTED that he was undertrained, had underestimated the marathon and said it was THE HARDEST THING HE'D EVER DONE, even harder than the Tour. His ex-wife wrote a big article making fun of him in Runner's World, too. He practically had to be carried from the finish line. I think Lance Armstrong is just about the greatest athlete who ever lived, but that doesn't make him immune to a little friendly fun-poking. Hell, he's canoodling with one of the Olsen twins right now. Now that's some focking funny shat right there!

TheNewGirl 1,638 Posted November 7, 2007 I'll bet most of you couldn't even complete a five-mile run. Another Geek and I were discussing this a while back, and I agree 100%. I find it funny that so many people make light of running...it's not easy to consistently and constantly RUN for a specified amount of time. I think that Lance did an awesome job, but he shoudl know better to talk himself up so much, then go, "Hey, that was hard!!!" Ya think?

I love how you keep harping on your prediction of "marathons are tough", like it's something earth shattering that nobody knew. But you also predicted something along the lines of: - He'll stumble across the line, embarrassed, at around 5 hours..bleeding from the ass (or something like that) - There was another prediction in there about a time that was way off as well. cbfalcon 828 Posted November 9, 2007 I remember this from last year. Summarized: Rusty - "Marathons are hard. Lance Armstrong isn't training hard enough and has zero chance at breaking 3 hours. I guarantee it" Then Lance ran it in well under 3 hours, but said it was hard. Rusty - " I win. He admitted it was hard. Nevermind the whole 3 hour part that I went on and on and on about being impossible for him to do it in. All that matters is I said it would be hard and he admitted it was hard."
