FFT Homer Mock Draft Commentary...

 Nobody gonna give their 2 cents about Atlanta's pick of Nicks?

He was who I was aiming for in the 2nd if we got Groves in the first. He's still raw, and some character concerns dropped him a bit, but he's versatile and has upside. I actually really thought about taking him my first pick, but I figured Baker was the safe choice at that spot.

I would have taken Baker here over Nicks but Nicks was a close 2nd. He's huge and moves pretty well for a guy that big. I agree he's still raw but he has potential to be a dominating OT for Atlanta in the future.

went with Brandon Flowers for the Jets. The Jets really have nobody after D.Revis. Poteat,Barrett, and Miller are all better suited as nickel and dime backs at this point. Flowers will give the Jets a couple of young CBs that should add some playmaking ability to the jets secondary. I considered Manningham and Doucet here as the Jets need depth at WR too

I like the Flacco pick for Atlanta. Makes total sense at that spot. I wouldn't be shocked to see them take Chad Henne there either.

True. It was almost a coin toss. I picked Flacco b/c he seems more hyped right now and his stock is higher but I could see Atlanta taking either.

Yeah, I know one of the guys you're talking about (a certain RB), not sure of the second.

I know to whom are are referring on both counts, but I did not buy into them. And as for the RB, well, if the Raven's had a need to fill for a 3rd down back, i would have absolutely sprung....

The Niners need serious D-Line help. He's a bit of a reach here, but Avril can come in and take the job away from TBC and Haralson. I'd much rather have seen a D-Line pick like Laws or Dre Moore...or one of the many WRs still on the board.

I gotta say, I'm loving New Orleans' first two picks.

I will be estatic if the Saints get Leodis McKelvin and Trevor Laws with their first two picks. I actually think Laws has a pretty decent chance at sneaking into the first round, but hopefully not. I think he fits exactly what the Saints need @ DT, plus he probably was one of the BPA's anyway.

If he wouldn't have been there, I would have had to decide between the LBs Jerod Mayo and Curtis Lofton - both will be very nice 2nd round picks, IMO.

The top of the 2nd round has some really nice talent this year, I really hope the Saints keep their pick, because they will really have a nice chance of getting someone who can make an impact right away.

FYI: We will have a 24 hour time limit through round two. My hope is we make way more than 1 pick per day, but I heard a few of you might actually have a life outside of a football message board, although I still have my doubts.

Not sure if we should ask for a sub if the 24 hours tick by or maybe just throw some names out there and when the same name is mentioned like three times we go with that selection. Any thoughts or should we just deal with it if it becomes an issue?

I'm assuming then the Saints are looking for an undersized, high motor, penetrating DT then and not a big space eater that will demand double teams.

I love Lawson since he was so productive on bad ND teams and because of his wrestling background he understands how to use leverage against the bigger OL, but he's not going to be a fit for every system.

What? The Packers pass on Mike Jenkins in the 1st round?

There are a few  picks in there, IMO...that's why I posted it.

The Pats would be doing backflips if Chris Long fell to them. I can't see it happening.

Nice pick on Laws, I was hoping he'd slide a while. Guys like him always find a way to be useful.

I think Reggie Smith is one of the best players available at this point. He has a lot of upside at both CB or FS. If he is placed at FS he would need to pack on a few pounds. At CB he is ideal size (6' 1/2 200lbs) and he has enough speed.

Went with area of need for the Broncos, especially with Marshall being hurt. Doucet could give Cutler some really nice weapons for a long time.

OMG :shocking: if one of the next two teams doesn't pick the elephant left in the room this mock draft will instantly be null and void...

Good gawd, there's no way this happens is there? You're getting mid 1st round talent and maybe the 1-3 best player at his position, and a deep position this year, half way through the 2nd round???!!!

In the PFW mock I posted earlier they had the Jets taking him...in the first.

That is the challenge with a mock draft and when you have no trades, anything can happen.

If I had known he would fall this far the Lions would have not made the same first round pick. The Lions were pissed at the run on O-lineman right before thier pick.

I wouldn't put too much analysis into this mock either way. Too many of our participants are drafting purely on need, and that is not the reality of the NFL draft, especially when players slip down.

Maybe we shouldn't put too much emphasis on the FF skill positions in the draft either. Maybe it does go similar to this b/c RB isn't at the top of the list for teams. And this draft has pretty deep talent at RB so maybe teams will wait on the position to get better talent at the OL and DL. It's not that far fetched. I'm surprised the guy isn't off the board either but maybe there's a good reason for it.

Thats what I was thinking. It is actually likely that Stewart makes it the the very late 1st or early 2nd in the real draft. To have him fall a little further isn't that big of a deal.

Well, what's odd is that this seems to be tracking similar to how some "expert" mock drafts have played out (I know, I know, like those are ever right). I was darned tempted to take Stewart w/ Denver's pick in the 2nd round. But I don't think we're overvaluing the skill positions because run on defense and offense line players is pretty high thus far. Sux that the rest of the sports world is this freakin boring that we're down to doing this...

Yeah. Some people will allow some passion for a player to skew their assessment. In this mock people have taken players that truly should be taken to fill needs and let things proceed in a truly logical manner. Which is rare for this particular event btw...

I think the participants have shown considerable moxy thsu far.... :overhead:

goodness gracious Carolina just got stocked. Good lineman in the draft, Hackett at the WR, a stud RB and still have DeAngelo for change of pace. Were this to happen, Delhomme's value would soar.
