posty 2,822 Posted February 6, 2009 http://www.radioink.com/Article.asp?id=114...&spid=24698 WASHINGTON -- February 5, 2009: Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) told nationally syndicated talk host Bill Press this morning that the recent flips of liberal Talk stations in several markets were a "disservice to the public." Stabenow said that, in the day of the Fairness Doctrine, "you had to have balance," and continued, "I think something that requires that in a market with owners that have multiple stations that they have got to have balance -- there has to be some community interest -- balance, you know, standard that says both sides have to be heard." Stabenow told Press that the airwaves are "dominated by one view" that "overwhelms people's opinions -- and, unfortunately, incorrectly," and said that "right-wing conservative talk hosts" are "trying to make people angry and saying all kinds of things that aren't true and so on." When Press asked if it is time to bring back the Fairness Doctrine, Stabenow responded, "I think it's absolutely time to pass a standard." To Press' inquiry as to whether she will push for hearings in the Seante "to bring these owners in and hold them accountable," Stabenow replied, "I have already had some discussions with colleagues, and, you know, I feel like that's going to happen. Yep." So why isn't she complaining about ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC instead of just targeting right-win radio?

NewbieJr 541 Posted February 6, 2009 So why isn't she complaining about ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC instead of just targeting right-win radio? Because dooshbags like Hannity and Limbaugh hurt the nation's morale. They are trying to divide the country and turn its own people against our leader. FeelingMN 273 Posted February 6, 2009 Hannity and Limbaugh have huge ratings numbers. Air Amerikka had no ratings. End of argument. The people have spoken. Absolutely. There are plenty of sources for Left wing diatribe. No posty, the MSM (ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN) is not one of them. Let the conservatives have the airwaves. People who listen to radios are old, play banjos, and frequent this bored. Liberals tend to get their news from online sources anyway. No need for an impotent Uncle Sam to get involved in this at all.

I have never come across a single person that supports it. So who the fock are these politicians that decide these anti-Constitution laws are what their constituents want? Fockings scumbgas. Patriotsfatboy1 1,433 Posted February 6, 2009 The "Fairness Doctrine" is a farce. I find it odd that liberals want to stifle free speech and conservatives are promoting it. What a bunch of hypocrites.

I said it in an earlier thread, if this gets momentum, it will be the thing that gets me off my internet posting ass and get directly involved. I feel very strongly about this. This is more than censorship (Imus), this is the government trying to control the airwaves.

Voltaire 5,497 Posted February 6, 2009 Ya think???? Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Sorry about Stabenow by the way. The people of Michigan had a great nominee to replace her in 2006 but since he had an ® next to his name, we couldn't sent him to the Senate. As if this issue of the fairness doctrine couldn't get any more ridiculous, Stabenow said "I absolutely think it’s time to be bringing accountability to the airwaves." Are you focking kidding me??? She has been an absolute disaster and then has the balls to talk about accountability??? Beyond belief.
wiffleball 4,797 Posted February 6, 2009 Absolutely agree with this. There just has to be more balance. On Sports Tallk Radio, it's all FOOTBALL FOOTBALL FOOTBALL. They need to mandate more Lacrosse and Swimming talk.

Any official who supports this doctrine should be voted out of office at the next opportunity. I agree it's horsesh!t but there's a lot of factors that go into voting and this only slightly registers on my importance barometer. I may well vote Stabenow out of office, normally I would have voted for her 2006 opponent but I had/still have a serious case of BDS. Next time around, I can't say the Fairness Doctrine will weigh too heavily in the decision. It may be in the back of my mind with the other grievence I have about Stabenow. That she's the sponsor of this is embarassing. The thing is, even though I know they're being unfairly targeted and getting screwed, I simply can't work up much sympathy for the Bushworshiping Pied Pipers on the radio. I have a lot more important issues to worry about when I vote.

You obviously don't listen to much talk radio other than Hannity. I have listened to a lot of talk radio. I don't even like Hannity. But a lot of the other talk radio hosts are not Bushworshiping Pied Pipers. That is just what you have been told by where ever you get your information. It's BS. Sure Hannity and even Rush are like that. Most of the time though, it is the conservative talk radio that fills in the rest of the story or brings attention to something the main stream media refuses to cover since it goes against their agenda. I can not count how many times back when I had cable TV that I would hear a story on the TV news only to hear facts they left out on talk radio. It becomes crystal clear after a couple of weeks of listening that if you only watch the TV for news, you are not really getting informed.

It becomes crystal clear after a couple of weeks of listening that if you only watch the TV for news, you are not really getting informed. I've listened to Michael Savage and Lars Larsen before. They do address issues in a manner that the MSM doesn't. But, their programs are soooooo skewed to justify their perspectives that it's scary certain folks regard that stuff as useful information. It's propeganda. It cracks me up the dupes they let through on the call lines to argue the dissenting points. Those fockers are crazy! But they're often propped as representatives of the liberal mindset. I would love it if there was an actual program that provided a point-counterpoint type of format. To really challenge people to reason through the issues of the day. But people, who are more identifiable as consumers than citizens, would rather pick a sideline from which to cheer on 'their' team, and root against the enemy. Though I'm replying to your post GC, it's not to single you out. So don't get defensive. Both sides do this sh!t. And it would become that much more prevalent under the FD. What people need to do is step outside themselves and take a look at different perspectives. I'm sure this is the thrust of the fairness doctrine, but Uncle Sam doesn't understand you can't impose that onto people. Just let it happen.

They need to mandate more Lacrosse and Swimming talk. Even then, around here, for the past few weeks it has been all about the Cardinals. Sure they are the local team and the subject everyone wanted to discuss, but is it really fair to, say, the 2 or 3 Bengals fans here? Christian stations? Please. If I were TNG I would call my rep requesting, nay demanding, an equal number of Wiccan stations. It boggles my mind that anyone with two neurons connected in their haids could support this thing. It becomes crystal clear after a couple of weeks of listening that if you only watch the TV for news, you are not really getting informed. Remember, I'm caught in a time warp from 2001. Since I live overseas, I haven't heard talk radio in years. Other than Houston Rocekts basketball (not my team), I don't/can't even watch sports anymore. My memory of right wing talk radio is Rush Limbaugh. I remember Howard Stern, don't even remember Imus. Now we had some great talk radio in Detroit, Mark Scott comes to mind, but he was much more local and libertarian. Great local sportstalk radio too.

Can we add in Mexican stations too? Because everything to the right of the midpoint on my dial is Taco Mas Bueno. Not a single Vietnamese Station. And Laotian? Forget it. Completely unfair.
