peenie 1,915 Posted May 2, 2009 i read an article on AOL that said the parents of nikki catsouras, a beautiful 18 year old girl, were suing because photos of her were circulating the internet. she had taken her father's porche without permission and crashed it. she was killed and decapitated. the photos got leaked. my curious mind googled her name and found the ghastly photos. the strange thing is that, i think the photos are a great lesson to all: slow down. even though i have such great compassion for the family, their grief and privacy, i think everyone who sees those pictures will take pause and perhaps drive a little safer. i know i will. Strike 5,555 Posted May 2, 2009 Most people don't know how to drive properly anyways, and certainly not a high performance vehicle like a Porsche. The training we give to prospective drivers is woefully inadequate. This stuff happens all the time. This time the photos just happened to get out.

IGotWorms 4,058 Posted May 4, 2009 I once dated a chick who had been an EMT. She'd seen all kinds of crazy sh!t like that in her day. She'd have pretty bad nightmares over some of the stuff she saw too, I remember a couple times I woke up to her twitching like she was hurt and one time she jolted us both awake with a scream. Maybe seeing that stuff on a regular basis is why she turned out to be so g0ddamm loony herself.

titans&bucs&bearsohmy! 2,745 Posted May 4, 2009 My grandfather owned a body shop. When I was about to turn 16, he took me to the lot at a local wrecker. There, I was shown car after car that was a mere scrap of twisted metal. The interiors were often covered in blood, sometimes with bits of hair. The basic thrust of the lesson was "Don't be a dumbass and end up like these people." It was a pretty good lesson. If I were the parents, I would want these pictures to be seen by teens, so that they know what they are dealing with.

Along that line of thinking, there were four guys in high school who wrecked their car and died. I went to the local wrecker yard to see the damage to the car since I knew one of the guys who died and it did leave quite an impression on me.

jgcrawfish 232 Posted May 4, 2009 years ago i used to be an auto insurance adjuster. i handled a bad, bad case. girl we insured was on her way from work, about 10:00 pm at night...not drinking, no alcohol, not speeding...doing everything right. all of a sudden the windshield basically explodes into face. she somehow manages to keep control of the car and pulls into a gas station at the next exit. she's trying to figure out what happened and get the glass out her face when she hears something. she turns around and there is a body laying in the backseat of her car, and it let out this kind of moan/gurgle sound. turns out a homeless lady was walking on the median area of the freeway she was on decided to cross the street right then. She was wearing dark cloths in a dimly lit part of of the road, so the girl driving never saw her. girl was driving a ford probe. the probe pretty much amputated the homeless lady from just above the knees. her torso slid up the car and went thru the windshield, except for the top 4 inches of her head, which caught the roof of the car. shockingly enough the lady was still alive, but the police couldn't find her right arm. when they got her to hospital they found out why. apparently she tried to pull the Heisman pose and block the car with her right arm, and the impact was so severe that it forced her arm into her chest cavity. there were brains and bits of the homeless lady all over the vehicle. no way am i clicking on anything more than the one picture i saw... Frank M 181 Posted May 4, 2009 Are there laws preventing the release of fatal accident photos? Because I googled "car accident fatal" and there were three pics with car accident victims on the first page alone. With moderate safe search on.
jgcrawfish 232 Posted May 4, 2009 Thanks for making this sad disgusting story laughable. the really funny part of the story was apparently the lady had a big purse/bag under left arm. you know you can just see the purse tucked away in along the forearm, right knee up high, right hand extended down an to the side, place right on the 60mph traveling ford logo. Are you sure the homeless person wasn't Gino Toretta? Tim Couch Are there laws preventing the release of fatal accident photos? Because I googled "car accident fatal" and there were three pics with car accident victims on the first page alone. With moderate safe search on. i was reading the story on it. procedure prohibits investigating officers from releasing the accident photos, but there is nothing illegal about it. the family sued California Highway Patrol (CHips!) on it and although the judge severely chastised the officers, he ruled against the family because no law had been broken. In this case, I feel pretty bad for the family. The police department wouldn't even let them see the photos from the accident scene, then dad gets them emailed to him one day under the guise of something work related. and with a name like catsouras, it's not like there are that many "catsouras" listings on google that don't deal with your daughter having her head exploded in the Porsche she took from you after the two of you had a fight. And there are still other daughters that have to deal with it, and with sicko's like you geeks here.

(eta, clearly "block the car" is description enough but i had to make sure) also, i laughed so hard at kutulu's comment. honest to gawds truth. hard parts about handling the claim were these: 1. the girl driving the car was seriously focked up by all of it. it's got to be hard enough knowing you killed someone, even in an accident in which you were faultless, but having it happen like that has to seriously screw with you, fockin body in the backseat. 2. the car actually wasn't all that badly damaged. but we had to find a way to total it because of the freakin carnage inside the car and the smell. there was no way anybody at my company felt it was ok to let a car with that kind history go back on the road. 3. the poor homeless lady was indeed homeless. we reserved the claim for the limits of our insured's policy even though she wasn't at faut simply for the fact that we knew if it ever went before a jury and there was even the slightest liability found to our insured (texas is a comparitive negligence state, you can be "partially" at fault) then it would cost us severely based on the fact that the woman didn't die at impact (in fact, she lived for something like 6 hrs afterward) and the suffering involved. as it turned out, the woman had no family, no will, no nothing. the money went unclaimed. really sad.
