After exhaustive research, "Gay is not genetic"

Recommended Posts

Personally, I think there may be some environmental factors but for the most part you ARE born straight or gay. I'm basing this on the fact that the % of the population that is gay has stayed pretty consistent over the years, but you'd expect more gay people since as a society we've become much more tolerant of homersexuals. There are also cases of homersexuality among apes in roughly the same rates as in humans. Unless you think environmental factors are leading to gay apes, I think that's a pretty stunning coincidence that points toward some kind of genetic cause. And just based on the few gay people I've known well, every one of them can recall having sexual feelings toward the same sex at a very early age - like 5 or 6. Some of these people come from backgrounds that actively discourage homersexuality. So based on all of that I don't believe it's just a choice, although I'm open to the idea that some environments let people who are pre-disposed to being gay act on those impulses.

There are so many better instances of bullsh1tting, I don't know why you'd pick on a group of people who are already stigmatized and treated like second class citizens.

 That is some sound logic. They have been fudging those numbers for years.

Oh and while we're at it with the "you shouldn't ridicule me  for what I believe!" bullshiit:

Let's remember how the Fundies speak about Homosexuals. Let's also remember how 'Christians' shout BABY KILLER at scared little girls who are getting their first abortion. Let's think back to all the past halloweens when thousands of christians staged and attended "hell houses" showing what happens to homosexual and people who get abortions. Let's think back to the 'Christians' openly deriding and dismissing the 'absurd notion we all come from monkeys'.

Here's your great Christian leaders on 9/11:

So anybody who whines about being targeted, ridiculed, persecuted - from a religion that made its focking BONES on doing exactly that on a massive scale - Go suck a diick. :(

Wiffle...this is tiresome. We've been over this for years. You're talking about roughly 1%, if that, of the American Christian population acting in these ways. Give it a rest already. Do you want me to judge your extended family or the place you live by the 1% fringe element that exists?

Please.

Not necesarily disputing this...but do you have a link to it? I've seen you reference this before, but I've never seen it actually stated in an article that was credible.

 That is some sound logic. They have been fudging those numbers for years.

The numbers have gone down over the years - at least one study (I don't have a link handy but I'll find one) said about 10% of men and 5% of women are gay. Most estimates I've seen now are from 1.5-4% of the population. Here's a link for Fumbleweed: Link I'd guess those #s are somewhat underreported because of closet types. It's probably closer to 5%.

My point is that you'd expect an explosion of people identifying as gay in the past few decades since people today are so much more accepting of that lifestyle, but the opposite has happened. If ghey is entirely environmental why would that happen?

I personally think it's mainly something you're born with but environmental factors play a role in whether you ever act out on it.

Genetic? To the OP, no link has been shown. Physiological (including biochemical influences during pregnancy), more likely.

Yeah, and it was a small percentage of Nazis who actually pushed jews into ovens, but they gave all the rest a bad name. That's just how it works. Share a label with a doosh, and you are a doosh by association.

Again, that's ridiculous. I am not a Christian because of my association with hateful, fringe idiots. I am a Christian because I align myself with Jesus Christ.

So, if you have a "doosh" relative, you are doosh yourself?....even if you have no contact with them? That's just silly.

and really, what's the point?

there is or isn't a "gene"

it is or isn't "biochemical"

once you find that cause, what's next?

are you going to try and "cure" the gays?

is that the endgame of all this?

and if so, can I formally request that we not cure some lesbians. I would miss some of that if it were gone.

The one stat that's always been steady is the percentage of population that is gay... MDC mentioned this earlier... that number doesn't fluctuate much.

so it isn't some spreading epidemic.

and it isn't something that the "gay agenda" will increase.

That's a big part of why I don't worry so much about the "gay agenda".

So long as you keep it to yourself (and that goes for heteros too), I don't really care.

Sometimes you seem so smart. Then I read a post/analogy like this and you prove me wrong. :sadbanana:

Guys, I was kidding. I like to stir the pot.

But here is a real answer. There are so many of these fringe "Christian" a-holes out there, and they have pretty much hijacked your pulpit. I would like to see the moderate, legitimate Christian groups come out and denounce these people. When Falwell said his 9/11 crap, did you see anyone from the Southern Baptist Convention denounce him? The Catholic Church?

I just think you guys could do a better job of policing you own, and at least try to marginalize them, and differentiate yourselves, rather than letting them have the spotlight.
