KSB2424 3,148 Posted December 9, 2009 I really just don't get it. Trying to defend the indefensible. It's like their trying argue that he's still a great golfer, so this is just a little bump in the road for him. That may even be true (it's debatable the long term effects) and I don't really see anyone arguing against that. It's just crazy that they fail to admit what a fall from grace this is...probably the biggest ever in the sports world. Are you even reading the thread? I'll put it in bold for you: Tiger is a dirtbag for cheating on his wife! Nobody is defending that what he did in his marraige is a good thing. What we are discussing is the merits of if it will change golf ratings and why you focking homos care so focking much about what goes on in a golfers bedroom. surferskin 30 Posted December 9, 2009 You see, for me, if an athlete does something off the field that a whole lot of people do as well this doesn't bother me. Saying a curse word or even cheating on your wife. While not the most noble of things (and Tiger is a dirtbag to his wife), it is common place and not the end of the world. Like the mantra Those that live in glass houses should not throw stones if you will. That's why I will still watch and root for the guy. I can call Tom Brady a dirtbag but I still watch him on Sundays. It doesn't affect me rooting for or against or watching the guy one little bit. If an athlete does something wholly illegal and monsterous like rape or abuse then that's where I draw the line. That's where he seperates himself from the average Joe. I don't care all that much as I only really cared about Tiger the golfer to begin with. I sorta understand if you are 12 years old and Tiger was your Idol. Or if you are woman and care about Tiger "the family man". I didn't think you and Newbie were 12 years old or woman though. Glass houses? It's one thing to hold people like Tiger to unreal/perfect standards but that's not what's happening here. It's like you fail to grasp the scope of what Tiger has done. From the sounds of it, he was slaying harems of women on every road trip. That might earn you kewl points when you're a bachelor but it's sickening when you're newly wed with infants. Sorry, I can say all that without getting on a high horse.

It's as if you care so much you were trying to get people to stop talking about it so it would all go away. Just fess up. You love you some Tiger. You don't want to hear anything bad about him. MedStudent 56 Posted December 9, 2009 Tiger is a dirtbag for cheating on his wife! So now you admit he is a dirtbag. Now the only difference between you and me is that I do not root for dirtbags. Maybe if the dirtbag was on my hometown team I follow, I have to root for him because i like the team, but Tiger is on team Tiger and like you said he is a dirtbag. Why would I root for him? Other golfers may be dirtbags that have not been uncovered but Tiger IS a dirtbag. I agree that ratings will not go down at all and in fact they will likely increase. But a lot of the people who will be watching will be rooting against Tiger. As I said before, I think there is a difference between cheating on your wife and continuously cheating on your wife with a multitude of women, including porn stars. No telling what kind of diseases you are exposing your wife to.

KSB has to put some sort of spin on it. He got beat up as badly as I ever saw someone get beat up in teh days prior to Woods admiting his indiscretions. I mean, it was a brutal beatdown. Now, he has to try to dismiss it all as women-stuff. He sure has been hanging-by-a-string on this story. All I know is, this focker better not have his PR-guys tell him to hold a tearful press conference or admit him into a sexual-addiction center. They've tried BSing teh public long enough. Issue a statement saying you realize that you had total disregard for your wife and kids, should have never gotten married because you grew up a gangly-looking dork who couldn't get laid and needed to sow your oates, and tell everyone you are getting divorced because you're too selfish to be married. That's it. Be like Giambi or ARod and be truthful. Ands sexual addiction is total BS. No such thing.

TD Ryan2 316 Posted December 9, 2009 From the Charlie Pierce Articles: The next morning — this morning — a limousine picked him up at his mother's house, and it took him to a photo shoot for the magazine cover that is only going to get him laid 296 times in the next year, if he so chooses. He gave the photographer an hour. One single hour. Sixty minutes, flat, in front of the camera. In the studio, which was wedged into a Long Beach alley behind a copy store and next to Andre's Detailing Shop (if you happen to need an Aztec firebird on your hood in a hurry, Andre's your man), Tiger was dressed in very sharp clothes by four lovely women who attended to his every need and who flirted with him at about warp nine. Tiger responded. Tiger told us all some jokes. This is one of the jokes that Tiger told: The Little Rascals are at school. The teacher wants them to use various words in sentences. The first word is love. Spanky answers, "I love dogs." The second word is respect. Alfalfa answers, "I respect how much Spanky loves dogs." The third word is dictate. There is a pause in the room. Finally, Buckwheat puts up his hand. "Hey, Darla," says Buckwheat. "How my d!k ta'te?" He was rolling now. The women were laughing. They were also still flirting. The clothes were sharp, and the photographer was firing away like the last machine gunner at Passchendaele. And Tiger told jokes. Tiger has not been 21 years old for a month yet, and he tells jokes that most 21-year-olds would tell around the keg in the dormitory late on a Saturday night. He tells jokes that a lot of arrested 45-year-olds will tell at the clubhouse bar as the gin begins to soften Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening. This is one of he jokes that Tiger told: He puts the tips of his expensive shoes together, and he rubs them up and down against each other. "What's this?" he asks the women, who do not know the answer. "It's a black guy taking off his condom," Tiger explains. He tells jokes that are going to become something else entirely when they appear in this magazine because he is not most 21-year-olds, and because he is not going to be a 45-year-old club pro with a nose spidered red and hands palsied with the gin yips in the morning, and because — through his own efforts, the efforts of his father, his management team and his shoe company, and through some of the most bizarre sporting prose ever concocted — he's become the center of a secular cult, the tenets of which hold that something beyond golf is at work here, something that will help redeem golf from its racist past, something that will help redeem America from its racist past, something that will bring a new era of grace and civility upon the land, and something that will, along the way, produce in Tiger Woods the greatest golfer in the history of the planet. It has been stated — flatly, and by people who ought to know better — that the hand of God is working through Tiger Woods in order to make this world a better place for us all. in the issue of Sports Illustrated in which Tiger Woods was named the Sportsman of the Year: "Can't you see the pattern? Earl Woods asks. Can't you see the signs? 'Tiger will do more than any other man in history to change the course of humanity,' Earl says." "I said," Earl Woods insisted, "that Tiger had the ability to be one of the biggest influences in history. I didn't say that he would be. I am not in the business of predicting the next Messiah, nor do I feel that Tiger is the next Messiah. That's stupid. That's just stupid." "I'll be satisfied if he's just a great person," Earl says. "I don't give a sh!t about the golf." Ah, but he does. He has given up a lot for it. He left another wife and three other children. He has devoted his life, a lot of his energy and a great deal of surpassing bullshit to creating something that may now be moving far out of his control. "I'm not worried now," he says. "Obviously, I will not be here to see the final result. I will see enough to know that I've done a good job." Earl's plan has obviously backfired. See what happens when you don't let a kid be a kid and grow up normal and experience all the normal rites of passage? The Tiger Woods marketing machine has fabricated a lie upon those they sell to. Tiger Wood, the Brand, is not reality and although most people understand that about Brands/Marketing it has been done so thoroughly with Tiger that it seems more than just harmless branding, it is outright lying. THAT'S Why so many people are p!ssed off about this. Tiger is a freakishly talented Golfer who's been nothing more than a Frankenstein creation of Earl Woods and a marketing agent. I was rooting for Rocco Mediate against Tiger in that playoff. I do get irritated with two things. Political Correctness gone crazy and the Media sensationalism For me this was more about that than anything else. Well that, and early in this thread I was painted in a corner and had to bullshit my way out. But the truth is that I really don't care all that much about watching a Tiger nekkid picture or if it was 3 girls or 7. I really, truely don't. Nor will it, 6months from now, keep from watching the Masters or the US Open or anythign of the sort just like I did last year. Not sure what else to say. I guess that's more believable to you because it fits your agenda. Hypocrite. If it is on the Fox News "news" programs then I do believe that as news facts. If it's on Sean Hannity's opinion show then I watch for entertainment. Just like when I read the WSJ I belive that as news facts and when I read US Weekly I do for entertainment. That's the whole point. I think you have me cofused with Flahawker or somebody. HTH ETA: Actually thanks for the analogy. This makes a point. If Flahawker would have started a thread saying: "Sean Hannity is reporting that there are secret documents that show Obama had an affair with a communist!@#!" You would have been totally right to say: "Ummm dude, Hannity is trying to get ratings and embellish the news, I think I will wait until actual proof from a real news source". You SHOULD say that. And if it came out later that the rumor was true Flahawker would have gloated and called you an idiot just like you guys are doing.

jerryskids 6,844 Posted December 9, 2009 The point being that Tiger drew in non-golf fans. My wife would sit down and watch a major with me if Tiger was in contention. My mom would watch. I have coworkers that could care less about golf, but they'd watch Tiger. He was bigger than the sport. This . KSB thinks everyone who watches golf is an avid golf fan. My wife fits into the above, but hates Vijay because of his sexist comments about Annika, and she hates Faldo for leaving his wife for the nanny. She only watches if I'm watching, and as stated above everyone is going to watch that first tourney, but regarding endorsements, there are a lot more people like my wife than KSB thinks. KSB2424 3,148 Posted December 9, 2009 The most irritating thing is that perception and half truths becomes reality in peoples minds. It happens all the time with all kinds of stories in sports, politics, anything. Two years from now you can poll a random person off the street and ask them about "Tigergate". They will say "That's when Tiger was out cheating with all those women and his wife beat the fock out of him so he got plastered drunk and wrapped his truck around a tree. Then she tried to commint suicide or something like a week later." Some of it is true. Some of it is embellishment based on rumors. Some is totally made up. People say it over and over again instead of the facts. It's just irritating as hell and what is to be expected in a beauty salon or something.

Also I am not an airbags guru. Are you? Or are we going down the Conspiracy Theory route now? Mr.Steak21 in the da house? You're the one acting like there's a conspiracy against poor Tiger. Seems pretty straight forward to the rest of us.

KSB2424 3,148 Posted December 9, 2009 Sometimes it's best to admit you're wrong and move on About what? I was wrong in thinking that the tabloids fabricated those cheating stories. That's been established. Are the people that called him out for DUI or Assualt gonna admit they were wrong too? Doubt it. Either way we are talking other stuff now. Try and keep up.
