Tony Romo has won 6 of 16 December starts

Recommended Posts

Wow. To have 14 starts at QB, with the talent that Jones constantly puts around him, and to have only won 5 of them is ridiculous.

Is it time for Dallas to cut ties with Mr Hollywood and start looking for Trent Dilfer-type? A guy without the flashy pesonality or penchant for putting up big numbers in meaningless games, but with some composure and leadership skills when the games mean something?

Discuss.

I said Romo has won 5 of 14 starts in December. That's the fact. They've probably won a few where he didn't play so well, too. It evens out.

And a lot of his yardage and a TD was on that meaningless drive with two minutes to go when the Giants were in the prevent. I call them Warren Moon stats. Window dressing.

This is fantasy football. Who cares about the teams record? Those stats right there will win you the FF championship. May his team continue to lose if he keeps putting up those numbers B)

If only Romo played special teams so he could kick FG's and tackle punt returners. Maybe then the Cowboys could have won the game. The team needs more guys like Romo who pull their weight.

Maybe that line judge that somehow missed the blatent hold on the Jacobs run could take a little from Romo of how you do your job as well.

Dude, his record is 5 out of 14. There is a big body-of-work to draw from here. Let's not pretend that Romo only wins 33% of his career December games because Dominick Hixon ran back a punt yesterday. B)

I'm pretty sure Romo's team won on Thanksgiving. As for Vegas, they left Friday were back Saturday morning by all reports.

Cowboys suck, but it isn't Romo's fault.

Hey man, I realize your favorite team got their ass handed to them last night. I realize deep down you know that Favre is about to hit the brick wall and the Vikes will flame out like a fart in the wind, especially once they stop playing a cupcake schedule. But no need to turn into Philly fan ilk and blindly hate on other teams without regard for common sense.

Anybody who watched the game knows Romo did not lose it. He was, in fact, great. 77 of his 392 came on the last drive - big wow, still a spectacular day. QB rating of 112.1, total domination of time of possession, and no turnovers (by him). Nope, a MBiii fumble, and poor tackling cost us this one.

Unpossible. Football is NOT a team sport. Romo lost yesterday. He did not have the leadership skills to keep Marion Barber from fumbling the ball. Romo did not spend enough time in the offseason (he was playing golf) with the special teams coach working on punt return coverage. Romo should've kicked the damn field goal himself so they would make one over 40 yards. A real QB does things like that.

The Cowboys will continue to lose in December....not because Tony Romo is their QB, but because Wade Phillips is their coach.

I have been critical of Romo in the past, but yesterday was definitely not his fault.

I am realizing more and more that the Cowboys failings late in the season are more Phillip's fault than Romo's fault.

The facts are this:

1) The last three years, plus this one, the Cowboys have had a schedule that has been easier the first three months of the season, and tough in December. I am sure that is somewhat intentional on the NFL's part as Dallas is a ratings draw, and they want big games with playoff implications for the Cowboys in December.

2) When teams with fairly equal talent play each other, the difference is coaching and attitude. The difference is also special teams play, which in my mind is all about coaching.

3) The Cowboys find a way to lose in December. Whether it is an overwelmed offense (Eagles game last year) a defense that gives up big plays (Ravens game last year) or the special teams messing up (Giants yesterday), the Cowboys seem to find a way to lose. That is all about the Coach getting all aspects of his team ready.

Phillips is a coach who can win against inferior talent. He is not so good at winning against comparable talent. The Cowboys are now 1-7 in December and January against teams .500 or better under Phillips. Romo won't have a chance to prove himself as a quarterback until Phillips is replaced.

What a way to start a Monday morning!

I hate dallas and Romo, and I love threads where QB are given responsibility for wins ad losses.

Many of the folks crying "it wasn't his fault" are the same folks that say Brady is better than Manning, and McNabb is worthless. Why? WINS!

Can't have it both ways, kids.

McNabb threw for 350 yards in their NFC Championship game loss to the Cardinals last year and all you heard was McNabb chokes again.

Can't have your cake and eat it too. Winning is all that matters or it's not. It can't be changed when it's convenient for your particular agenda.

Romo has played like crap in the past...and it's the reason I never draft the guy in a FF league....he always seems to come up short when the games mean the most. But the Cowboys lost yesterday because they couldn't run...and they had lapses in coverage. Hard to pin that loss on Romo....it wasn't his fault....and I think Manning is better than Brady, and McNabb is a good, not great QB.

Football fans without agendas or hate can look at a QB and see the grey in the middle. Do team wins mean something when you look at the totality of a career? Of course it does. Team wins matter.

Can a football fan also use common sense and tell what or who was really "at fault" when analyzing a single loss or a specific year or stretch of games? Of course we can.

Only the haters pin it all on Romo and use terms like Choker. Just as some of the Cowboy homers make excuses to exonerate Romo. But like most everything else the truth lies in the middle.

The bottom line is, Romo couldn't make tackles when he needed to. He didn't even give chase on Brandon Jacobs 74 yard "run" or the kickoff return. Plus, had Romo been worth his salt, he'd have put up decent rushing numbers, unlike Jones, Barber and Choice did. Lastly, WTF was Romo thinking when he was wearing jersey #24 at the end of the half and he fumbled?

Seriously though....tough talkin haters as soft as Newbie...around here..would end up getting dropped on their head and their shoulders tore out of their sockets. I'm just sayin...

So the "We have so much talent" or "One of the most talented teams in the NFL" is now a moot point.

Umm, not exactly. We are still leading the division and in control of our own destiny. The road is going to be tough, and the possibility exists that we do not even make the playoffs....... Will say this though, if Romo can play like that (or similar) and put qb ratings over 100 - we stand a better than average chance.

The problem with the Cowboys is coaching....Phillips seems to be indecisive...and not IN CONTROL of his team. This shows its head at the most difficult/crucial times for his team. I don't believe that the players believe in Phillips and at times it bleeds over to Romo due to the fact he is the field general.

Romo's style can be somewhat out of control at times (reminds me of Favre). Romo needs the freedom to do his thing but at the same time the team needs more structure from him and his head coach before they will be able to win the toughest/biggest of games.

There is no need to go get another QB...they have a good one...he and the team needs to be coached up...

Look you guys can write it off all you want but why would you go to Vegas in the middle of the season when you QB the Dallas Cowboys and have had all these recent late season struggles? You're just setting yourself up for criticism when you falter.

You can't head to Vegas in the offseason?

It may seem minor but even Dungy and Rodney Harrison said its something you can't do. You need to show the rest of your team how committed you are.

I know you're all going to say "holy ######, its only 1 day in Vegas" but I challenge you to explain why it was a good idea, not simply retort with why it shouldn't matter.
