swamp dog 0 Posted January 25, 2010 Really? As I was told after SB 40, you overcome the bad calls by me? don't think so. the game should have never been close enough to let a ref make a crucial call(s)...so, yeah, at the end of the day the vikings have no one to blame but themselves. those calls in overtime were magnified because, well, it was overtime (of course). ZeroTolerance 584 Posted January 25, 2010 The Vikings seriously can't blame anyone but themselves. Six fumbles, two interceptions...lost the turnover battle 5 to 1. Gave the ball away inside the 10 on a fumble. Had a chance to win the game in regulation with a field goal...and managed a 12 men in the huddle penalty followed by an interception. gocolts 300 Posted January 25, 2010 totally neutral in this game, but i feel really bad for the Vikes. As a football fan I hate seeing games end like this 1. that pass interference was COMPLETE BS 2. the pass should have been overturned. the dude trapped it with his leg But oh well the superbowl will be the definition of a shootout Pretty much. NFC Championship MVP(s)? The Refs. What a hack job of officiating that OT was. It was outrageous, especially that PI call. A focking joke of a call.

This is true as well. As tough as it is watching a game get decided like that in OT, they had more than their fair share of chances to win this thing. As a Colts fan, I would rather play the Saints, especially after seeing this game.

Jaxie 0 Posted January 25, 2010 I agree that those calls at the end of the game were complete horse sh*t... but the Vikings didn't deserve to win after the game they played. It was painful to watch, and I'm shocked they were as close as they were. You can't turn the ball over that many times and still expect to win.

dreadlocks34 0 Posted January 25, 2010 The better team flat out did not win this game. But my prediction was whichever teams defensive line had the better game would win. I just didn't see it happen with no sacks by either team. Look at what Manning did to the Jets defense. The Saints are the anti-Jets. The Super Bowl could be really ugly if the Saint team of the last 6 games shows up.

berven 0 Posted January 25, 2010 A friend of mine in the Twin Cities has been raving all season about the "boyish enthusiam" with which Favre plays while taunting Packerland for letting him get away. Well, I hope he enjoyed the sandlot-style maneuver of Boyish Brett at the end of regulation, spurning the chance to jog into FG range for Longwell and instead deciding to flip it across his body, which is more fun. It brings back memories of the pick Brett threw against NY to keep us out of the Super Bowl. Congrats to NO and its fans!

Bald calls/non-calls have been happening in the playoffs every year for a long time now. I saw nothing in that game that was any worse then any postseason game in recent memory. Sho Nuff 720 Posted January 25, 2010 As for the game... -Favre played pretty well...but made 2 crucial mistakes. You just can't do that...espeically at the end of the 4th when you have a chance to win it. He probably felt a lot like Rodgers tonight as much as he got hit. -Give it up to the Minny defense playing pretty well...especially when you consider all of the turnovers by the offense. -I don't understand what the Saints were doing running the ball so much. Ended up winning...but seemed like a poor game plan. -Quit whining about penalties. It was a questionable call...we have all seen way worse. And it was 1st down...not like they did not have a chance to still do something on that drive. Bottom line...turnovers...can't turn it over that often. If that was Brett's last game...hell of a career...I wish he had played the last several years for the Packers like he played for the Vikings this year. Anytime you outgain an opponent 2-1 and still lose, you have to be kicking yourselves. You can outgain the team 7 to 1. If you turn the ball over 5 times. You should expect to lose. Heck, you turn the ball over 4 times, you should expect to lose. Even 3 is pushing it. Especially in a championship game. They may have a more "complete" team. FeelingMN 273 Posted January 25, 2010 The reason the Vikes lost was because they turned the ball over a zillion times....including twice inside the Saints' 10. If they score just once on one of those possessions, they probably win. And I haven't read the entire thread so I don't know if this was already discussed, but it seemed like Chilly was intent on kicking a 50 yard FG to win the game. I mean, there was like a minute left and you run twice in a row for no gain.....after you've driven down the field through the air.....then you call a pass play on 3rd and 10.....when the Saints know you're going to throw.....and they've been pressuring your gimpy QB all night. Just seems dumb to me....and that sequence cost the Vikes the game imo. You had the Saints on their heels....you were moving the ball well....no reason to get so conservative there. And the 12 men in the huddle penalty....focking embarrasing.....and epitomizes Chilly to a tee. Focking moron. And I'm not gonna b!tch about most of the calls....and really there's only two I have a problem with. The PI call was blown....but that's part of the game....so whatever. But the hit on Favre....where Adoyele hit high and McCray hit low....how is that not a focking penalty? Especially when the earlier hit was a questionable roughing call...but was called. Why is it so hard for the officials to get consistent on this sh!t? If you're going to protect the QBs by calling bullsh!t, ticky tack penalties, maybe you should blow the whistle when a dude goes after a QBs knees. All in all, the Vikes have no one to blame but themselves.....and as a fan, I blame Chilly for choking away the game in the last minute of regulation. He was not just free and going after his knees.
Vikings4ever 550 Posted January 25, 2010 I tell you why I don't think the one was a roughing the passer. He got blocked around the edge and was already on his way down from getting through the block. He was not just free and going after his knees. At the end of the play, Loadholt gave him a one handed shove that pushed him toward the ground. After that, McCray took 3 steps, and went for the tackle at Favre's knees. Wouldn't have been a penalty last year, but the way they've been overprotecting the QBs, it probably should have been called. But in the end, it wasn't the officials that lost the game for the Vikes. The Vikings lost the game for the Vikings. If they had been able to hold onto the damn ball, they likely would have won.

When Terrell Suggs can graze Tom Brady's knee and gets flagged but Bobby McCray can slam into Favre's knee without a call....just seems a tad inconsistent...no? And if that same exact thing happens on a punt...defender frees himself from a block....takes two steps then slams into the kicker....it's a penalty.

FeelingMN 273 Posted January 25, 2010 The better team lost. Enough said. Manning will carve apart the Saints D in the SB. Colts will win in a blow out. I don't know how you can say "the better team" lost. Good teams don't lay an egg in a big game on the road. And yet, for the last 6 weeks, anytime this team was in a big game, on the road, they came out flat and unprepared. Look at Arizona....then Carolina...then Chicago. In each of those games, the Vikes looked listless....which is inexcusable considering they were battling for the #1 seed down the stretch. I'll give them credit in that they played passionately yesterday. They were up to the challenge....but they still committed some pretty dumb mistakes. I mean, they only had 18 turnovers all freaking year....they had a third of their season total in the biggest game. Some of that is the Saints' D....who've done a great job in forcing turnovers all year....some of it was the fact the Vikes had to endure a hostile environment throughout the entire game. Give credit to the Saints' fans for keeping the Vikes uncomfortable the entire game....and yeah, part of it is Childress' inability to get this team ready for important games. Though they've looked very good at times....mostly against inferior competition....they've been awful in the games they had to win on the road....and I blame coaches when that happens. All in all, the Saints were the better team....they won by forcing mistakes.....or if you wanna stay negative, they won because they didn't fock up as much as Minnesota did. Either they made more plays, or committed fewer errors....but they deserved to win because they earned the right to play with homefield advantage. If the Vikes were truly the better team, it would have played out that way over the course of the season.

Saints didn't play their best game, but you can't turn the ball over that many times and expect to win. Championship teams do not turn the ball over like that.
