phillybear 366 Posted September 6, 2010 It's not that I have an issue with cutting all these veteran's especially the ones that Ruskell drafted and signed. Because 90% of them sucked. But it's just so ham handed. Of course they won't be able to get anything for these guys. They waited until all the rosters were set on all the teams, and THEN started trying to trade veterans they were about to cut. Do you really think anybody is going to give you anything? How about trying to move them earlier? Fine, you wanted an extended look at them. But it's not like you have adequate replacements for some of these players. Eh, rookie front office, a rebuilding process more painful than expected. Â A man walks into a bar. The bartender walks up to him and asks, "Why the long face?" The man says "Oh, the doctor just told me that I have full blown AIDS. And I'm a Seahawks fan." The bartender says "Seahawks fan, huh? Well, hold that thought while we go to a commercial break." WhiteWonder 2,685 Posted September 6, 2010 the only issue i have with the Hawks cutting Housh is that they will still end up paying him about 6 million dollars. Could have paid him 7 mil and had him on the team. Â i totally understand rebuilding and letting young guys have more playing time but from a cost stand point it makes almost no sense. WhiteWonder 2,685 Posted September 6, 2010 So you would prefer to pay a guy who isn't going to be in Seattle next year 7 million to biotch and moan all year while stunting the growth of say a Deon Butler? Â like i said, i understand wanting to get the younger guys more experience as this is a complete rebuild, however with a guaranteed contract its still tough to swallow basically wasting 6 million dollars. I guess that speaks to the poor contract he was signed to and perhaps this was simply a means to an end. Â i know he pouted a bit last year but i was unaware it was so bad that they needed to swallow most of his contract just to get rid of him.

Joey Gladstone 33 Posted September 6, 2010 The loss of Gibbs pains me the most. I wish him well, but hopefully it was health related and not the result of some dispute. He was the coaching hire I was most excited about. Â Cutting Vickerson puzzles me, he looked productive all preseason. I've heard nothing positive about Siavala or whoever it was we replaced him with. Sounds like Colin Cole with bad knees. Â It's good to see us clear out all the trash, but poor Hasellbeck is going to get KILLED by the Niners on Sunday. We'll be starting two tackles that have been on the team for exactly one week. nobody 2,581 Posted September 7, 2010 So for deep keeper and dynasty purposes what do you guys think is the most likely scenario for Seattle in 2011 Â A. They resign Hasselbeck to a long term contract B. They tank the season and let Hass walk, and then they draft Jake Locker after going 1-15 by laying down in week 17 against St Louis who enters the game 0-15 and then winning a coin toss after exhausting all other tie breakers. C. They squeak out a 5-11 season, draft Ryan Mallett and sign Kyle Orton to a two year contract to play while they groom Mallett for the position D. Hass gets injued in the final preseason game and Whitehurst leads the team to a Super Bowl a al Warner circa 1999. E. They tank the season to get the first pick, but they lose the pick as a penalty after it is revealed Pete Carrol was secretly paying referees to influence games against them. Â Â Looks like they are going B. Come on, Seahawks, lose those games!

WhiteWonder 2,685 Posted September 7, 2010 At this point, I would rather Hass be benched anyway. Why not just see what Whitehurst can do? Â i was thinking, and was going to ask the same thing after they let TJ go. if getting rid of TJ was a move to help the young WR's then why stick with the old QB who doesn't fit into the long term plans? Â but then i thought about it a little more and realized the old veteran QB probably helps the development of the young WR's more so than if you had a less experienced guy in there. I happen to think Hass is still a decent QB when healthy and im sure he can be good for the development of Tate, Butler and maybe even Fat Mike.
Joey Gladstone 33 Posted September 7, 2010 I'm all for playing Whitey as much as possible this season. I just dont want to see Hass leaving the field on a stretcher. shovelheadt 68 Posted September 7, 2010 Alex Gibbs resigns?!?! Â Also we got Stacy Andrews, mildly intriguing but he doesn't fit the offense at all. WTF?!? It's going to be a looooooooooooooooooooong season. Â You pretty much described the exact feeling most Denver fans have had for the past couple of years. Seahawks have always been a team I rooted for in a secondary fashion, but this looks like a train wreck in the making. Â Pat Ruel, Carrol's O-line coach at USC, was brought on board. He was learned up on zone-blocking when Gibbs was a consultant at USC. Art Valero is the new line coach with help from Ruel and Luke Butkus, all three guys having received training from Gibbs. Â Considering Gibbs is 70, and had to be talked out of retirement by Carroll in the first place, I think this situation could have been a known possibility from the start. I hope there is a silver lining there somewhere.

Joey Gladstone 33 Posted September 11, 2010 Already ruled out for Week 1, coach Pete Carroll acknowledged Friday that LT Russell Okung (ankle) may miss Week 2 as well. Okung is dealing with a high ankle sprain, so it's not a surprise that he's in danger of missing multiple games. If Matt Hasselbeck is still alive after Sunday's tilt with San Francisco, he may have to endure a Week 2 matchup against Denver with proven liability Tyler Polumbus or still-recovering guard Chester Pitts on his blind side. Okung hasn't even resumed running yet.  Dont focking rush him back. Take the month off.

phillybear 366 Posted September 13, 2010 One game into the season, we've destroyed physically and psychologically the psyche of the front runners of the division. Arizona and St Louis was a pathetic matchup too. The division winner will get 6 wins, and we might just be the misfits to claim the prize. EVERY team in this division stinks. All you kept hearing was SF this and SF that in the offseason to win the NFC West. They still suck. SUCK. I keep saying we will be bad this year, but it's like nobody is paying attention how bad EVERY team in this division is. Again, 6-10 wins the division. phillybear 366 Posted September 14, 2010 Watching the MNF game, and it's only the start of the 4th quarter and I've been partaking in liquid dynamite and feel like rambling, but I'm still very happy that Sanchez is not our QB. Yeah, he's young. But he is surrounded by a ton of weapons, and just does nothing with it. Maybe Whitehurst is the future. Maybe somebody else. But that Sanchez contract would be an albatross and recipe for disaster. Aaron Curry showed some improvement yesterday. We are better off. Â The Jets are probably a QB away from being a serious contender. The difference between Sanchez and Flacco is fairly thin going into a draft. Choose wisely. Not much of a "Dirtbag" though Yes a Ruskell holdover who the current admin has little regard for. I mean you IR the guy for a toe injury? Bigger picture it shows how badly Ruskell screwed up a draft that was supposed to pay big dividends: Curry (underwhelming at best), Unger (IR'd for a toe injury-probably played his last game in Seattle), Deon Butler (showing some, I say some, life), Mike Teel ( ), Courtney Greene (long gone), Nick Reed (cut), and Cameron Morrah (TE depth). What disaster. Thanks Ruskell!
phillybear 366 Posted September 14, 2010 This is not that bad. Unger was terrible. The line might actually improve a little more because of this. Â Unger is absolutely one of our best lineman, was THE best lineman last year, can play multiple positions, and I never heard a peep of disgruntlement against the guy all off season. Â I don't understand this move, other than to completely scrub out every single Ruskell pick. I guess Tatupu will be cut tomorrow.
FlaHawker 24 Posted September 14, 2010 Unger is absolutely one of our best lineman, was THE best lineman last year, can play multiple positions, and I never heard a peep of disgruntlement against the guy all off season.  I don't understand this move, other than to completely scrub out every single Ruskell pick. I guess Tatupu will be cut tomorrow. Outlook: Yep, it really was that bad for Unger. He struggled mightily early in the season. Unger struggled to sustain blocks, struggled to hold position, struggled to disengage before pulling and struggled to square in space. Succinctly, Unger struggled to play right guard. He improved towards the end of season before the abrupt switch to center. Unger was only good in two games, at Arizona and home against the Niners, and only good by a slim margin, but better to improve than decline. He enjoyed a decent start against the Packers, who themselves were starting a rookie at nose, B.J. Raji, but that game fell apart like the others, and where Unger struggled to hold the point as a flanking blocker, he was helpless manning the middle. Against Tennessee, Kevin Vickerson tossed him around with ease. In his second start of the season, Vickerson had three tackles, a tackle for a loss and a quarterback hit while consistently playing in the Seahawks backfield.  Mora did not know what he was doing. I forecasted Unger to play guard, despite his pre-draft designation as a center, and that opinion has now been corroborated by Mike Solari and Alex Gibbs. Mora did not know what he was doing and moved Unger to center as retribution for Spencer not healing fast enough. That was about the midway point in Mora's spiral towards unemployment. He called out his team and the Seahawks responded by being embarrassed at home against the 1-12 Bucs*. Mora did not know what he was doing and, in a season he seemed determined to go down with the ship, moving Unger to center was his lone move towards the future. It was quickly undone by the next coaching staff.  Beside Mora, 2009 lacked many villains. Seattle derived very little value from its much-hyped draft class. Two of its worst starters were rookies: Unger and Aaron Curry. Deon Butler barely contributed. Mike Teel and Courtney Greene are already gone. Cameron Morrah was a bit player. Only Nick Reed produced value above draft slot. In years past, it has been easy enough to pile on declining or bad players like Chris Gray and Brian Russell, but it's a bit early to begin ripping on Unger.  But, yeah, Unger was bad. Very bad. A substantial part of Seattle finishing 5-11. He could improve in his second season. He should improve in his second season. Before being switched to center, he looked as if he was improving. But there is no guarantee Unger will be markedly better as a second-year player than he was as a rookie. For a little while, we are going to have to hope and suffer and hope we don't suffer too much. I think John Morgan over at Field Gulls hit the nail on the head. http://www.fieldgulls.com/2010/7/5/1553334/2009-season-retrospective-max-unger
