frank 2,307 Posted April 27, 2010 Pearl Jam? Green Day? Seriously? Are individuals included or only groups? If individuals, how about Elvis Hendrix Springstein (could be included with the band anyway)
nzoner 937 Posted April 27, 2010 It's hard to argue w/ that list. Although they didn't make their top 5 it was good to see Bruce and the E Street Band on the list.
MedStudent 56 Posted April 27, 2010 Neil Young is Canadian. CCR was on the bubble for my top 5. Then pre young then: crosby stills and nash. I was thinking the "The Band" too but I think most of their members were canadians too even though they sounded like southern rock.

KSB2424 3,148 Posted April 27, 2010 The next person that says a rap group will get punched in the face. A 'Band' must consist of actual musical instruments that are played by the band memebers. Rap/Hip hop has it's place in music, but those groups aint no band.
MedStudent 56 Posted April 27, 2010 I'm brown and love metalica. I was thining CCR but after that many posts i started thinking maybe they were british. Red hot chilli peppers are one of my favorites. They crossed a lot of genres. I think they are one of the most underrated bands ever. Are we only doing old school? I nominate The Gorillaz. My top 5 in no particular would include GNR Metalica RHCP CCR Gorillaz Technically you could say RHCP do not qualify since Flea was born in Australia but I think he moved to the US when he was 5 and I think they are pretty much considered an American band. I also think that some of these that have been mentioned like NWA are most certainly considered bands today. I would actually replace metallica in my list by NWA. But there are some people out there who think it's the meaning of life. I don't wanna be yelled at, I wanna be sung to. I never really understood why someone would want to have some gangster from LA poking his fingers in your face, As I say, it don't grab me. Hell, Janes had what, 2 albums? Total Phayle Ok, I'll humor you with a couple more well known bands that don't suck like Metallica. Iggy and the Stooges The Strokes The Flaming Lips Sonic Youth Just because I listen to different music doesn't make my top bands any less relevant than someone elses. You act like all of these bands I named are some brand new flash in the pan. Yo La Tengo has been releasing music since 1987, Modest Mouse 96, Pinback 98, etc. etc. Primus had arguably the best bass player of all time, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have in my opinion the best female front-person of all time. I actually toned down my list and didn't even mention my absolute favorite USA band of all time, Explosions In The Sky. Additionally, you nominate the White Stripes with their crappy ass drummer and 2 good albums out of 6. Give me a break! P.S. Metallica hasn't made a good record 25 years. If you ask me they're one of the top 5 most overrated bands of all time. To each their own man. I would agree, but it depends on exactly what the parameters are. JT 137 Posted April 27, 2010 I take back Dave Matthews Band. Dave was born in South Africa then got US citizenship. He would be considered a white, African-American. Thanks for clarifying. Was looking up that info. I always figured he had to be foreign or have Tourettes or something. I'd say: Beach Boys - Impact on music of Brian Wilson alone makes this one pretty clear. 50 years from now, those studying American composers of the 20th century will study Gershwin, Wilson and Zappa. Grateful Dead - Longevity, the ability to create a huge fan base without significant radio play, and the forerunners of the bootleg phenomenon. Nirvana - Again, impact. I know the purists can list a dozen "grunge" bands that came along pre-Nirvana, but they're the ones that garnered worldwide attention. Ramones - Gabba Gabba Hey After that, open to suggestions. CantTouchThis 23 Posted April 28, 2010 The top 4 of the grunge movement(AIC, Nirvana, SG, PJ). Metallica CCR Aerosmith GNR Every good hip/hop group- most are solo, but there are groups like Public Enemy, Ghetto Boys, NWA that were highly influential. Kansas had a few mega-hits Beach Boys(meh) RHCP Grateful dead- but they were more an underground band Skynyrd Hendrix Pantera

Chicago In my opinion, one of the most underrated bands of all time. I suspect that most of you would know a solid 20 songs from them without realizing it. Again, one of my favorite bands. Lots of horns.

Are you really this retarded? Top 5 US bands of ALL TIME. Who the fock cares you your favorite bands are? This is ALL TIME US BANDS. I listen to bands most people haven't heard of too, but I sure as sh!t wouldn't consider them all time greats just because I like them. I'll agree with you on the Metallica shitty album statement. But those 3 (Kill em all, Master, Lightning) are 3 of the most influential albums of all time. And if Primus' bassist was so focking good, why did Metallica shoot Claypool down when he tried out for them? FACE This thread has reached 2 pages and you are the only one to list any of those bands. So I guess we're all wrong......you're right. Our bad. Top 5: Metallica Pinback The Dead Yo la tengo The Beach Boys Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs Ramones Explosions in the Sky Skynrd The Flaming Lips Yup, that's the list.......Thanks Oops. Edit to add.
