supermike80 2,082 Posted May 31, 2011 Zero good flicks out recently or in the works(except MAYBE that Spielberg flick..can't remember the name). Also, zero good gratutious nudity from celebrity females!! Really displeased lately by what is coming out of Hollywood. My Blockbuster queue is empty and I can't think of anything to put in it. Lame. td parker 1 Posted May 31, 2011 Not sure if you liked LOTR but this is promising LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Peter Jackson's two upcoming movies based on J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" have been given official names and release dates. The first of the two films, which are currently being filmed back-to-back in New Zealand, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey," arrives in theaters on December 14, 2012. The sequel, opening December 13, 2013, will be known as "The Hobbit: There and Back Again." Both will be released through Warner Bros. The two prequels to Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy follow the adventures of Bilbo Baggins -- to be played by Martin Freeman, with Ian Holm reprising his role as the elder Bilbo -- in his quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the dragon Smaug. The sprawling cast includes a number of other "Rings" veterans: Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey; Cate Blanchett as Galadriel; Orlando Bloom as Legolas; Christopher Lee as Saruman; Hugo Weaving as Elrond; Elijah Wood as Frodo; and Andy Serkis as Gollum. This is why there are no good movies. People run out to see yet another freaking superhero movie, or volume 12 in the Fast and Furious series, and other stupid schlock. Drive by a movie theatre sometime. You won't see anyone there but teenagers, because they have no other entertainment options. That is why movies suck. Same reason why TV sucks. Why write a decent story, or interesting characters, when all you have to do is follow stupid guido motherfockers around with a video camera? If people are content with watching crap, they will happily give us crap. The same is true with books. Dan Brown writes a decent book. Do we say "Let's see what he'll write next?" No, we demand that he write the same damn book over and over and over.

mobb_deep 920 Posted May 31, 2011 Hangover 2? There's also a Japanese movie directed by Takashi Miike (Ichi The Killer, Audition, etc) called "13 Assassins" that looks pretty good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-IzbkXo7bo I generally agree with you though. supermike80 2,082 Posted May 31, 2011 Kings Speech and Black Swan were last year.....so I'm not counting them in the "recent" category Thor? Captain America? Really? Fock that. I'm sure they will be all FX, stupid stories and no real substance. Super 8--maybe Like the word on the Peter Jackson flicks..we will see. Best X-men ever? That' shardly a ringing endorsement. MDC 7,881 Posted May 31, 2011 You can always branch outside of mainstream Hollywood films. I recent saw 13 Assassins (Japanese action film) and The Double Hour (Italian thriller) and both of them were terrific. If you stick to the multi-plexes most of what you'll see if garbage for tweeners. - Hipster D'bag

FeelingMN 273 Posted June 1, 2011 There's usually a couple decent Summer flicks worth checking out. Nothing that I'm too excited to see, but I'll probably end up watching Bad Teacher, Tree of Life, Beginners, Crazy Stupid Love eventually. Seems like the Oscar contenders usually start rolling out late Summer/early Fall. Should be better choices then.

Captain America is probably going to suck. Spielberg has been a hack for a while now, so I doubt Super 8 will be good. XMen? Great, if you're eight years old. Now Cowboys and Aliens...I hold out hope for that one. But you have to admit there is a real bust factor there. It's either going to be awesome or really sh!tty. Also, fock you. MDC 7,881 Posted June 1, 2011 Hobo with a Shotgun Did you ever end up seeing it MDC ? Yeah. Sorry man, but I just didn't like it. The gore and violence was pretty fun but it was just so stupid, I ended up turning it off about midway through -- I looked at the counter and couldn't imagine sitting through another 45 minutes. I love 70s / 80s exploitation flicks like the Warriors, Death Wish, Savage Streets, etc. but at least those movies try to have a story. I felt like Hobo ... was just all homage. I liked Rutger Hauer in it, though. Sorry, different strokes for different folks and all that. I didn't like Machete either, so I should prolly stick to the originals.
