Works for me! Had him on the bench week 1 because I wasn't sure how it would play out with Mathews actually healthy. I still one so I'm happy, but he's now my flex player so I'm happy with this news!

I'm liking it!! I might just have to move him into my RB2 spot and move Best down to a flex or :bench:

Tolbert can put up some points in that offense.....

Either way, Mathews is a great buy low right now

Yeah, for a player to be a great buy low there has to be reason to believe that they won't stay low forever. Mathews gives you no such reason. Buying low isn't that great if you end up selling lower.

Tolbert in - Ingram out in my $400 league at the flex position

He's still sitting on my bench in my $200 league b/c I can't and won't sit MJD, Charles, and Hillis - but damn do i wan't to plug him in.

I think in a PPR league Mathews does give you a reason because he is being used in the passing game. I still think Tolbert is the back to own in most formats, but in PPR Mathews does show signs he may be a decent flex play with upside.

Tolbert is the third down (usually passing downs) and goal line back. He "caught" 2 td's last week...Imjustsayin...

The main reason that Tolbert is a better play right now is because he pass protects a lot better than Mathews. If Tolbert is in there, they may pass or they may run.

Tolbert is rumored to have a vile of Stephen Davis' sweat that he wears during games around his neck -- therefore he should never be benched.

The San Diego Union-Tribune expects Mike Tolbert to play more snaps than Ryan Mathews "for the foreseeable future."

The Union-Trib points out that Philip Rivers is "the most important man" on the Chargers, and Tolbert is light years ahead of Mathews as a pass protector. In Week 1, Tolbert handled nine of San Diego's 12 pass-blocking opportunities. Jacob Hester executed two, and Mathews just one. In terms of early-down carries, Tolbert and Mathews are expected to rotate series. When the Chargers are passing or deep in the red zone, Tolbert will be in the game. Sep 16 - 9:27 PM

Just caught this on Rotoworld, sorry if it's already been posted.

Matthews, eat a d!ck son! :overhead:

Tolbert is far more valuable than mathews. They get a 50/50 split essentially on regular carries, and tolbert gets all the third down, agoal line and red zones carries. yea...Mathews is like thomas jones and tolbert is like charles. (not in playstyle, just in value terms.)

Way too much love for Tolbert in here. I own Tolbert but am trying to trade for Mathews while the price is still cheap. It amazes me that so many are on board with Tolbert. Mathews is the more talented RB.

I like Tolbert alot....I was offered Tolbert and Hightower for Forte and while normally I would never be on the 2 side of a 2 for one, it is kinda tempting, especially if he ends up beingtheir lead back

Arguable to say the least. Tolbert is "miles ahead of mathews in pass blocking", catches better (I have nothing to go off of to argue otherwise) and is a better goal line back. Matthews is faster. Thats it. Granted, this is all from limitesd time seeing mathews and results from last year and week 1 this year so ill admit theres room for arguments to be made. But its clear cut from what I see so far.

I wish you were right (Drafted the kid on every team I had), but your not. Proof is on the field. Period. Tolbert is rock solid in all facets. Mathews just isn't.

I watched the game, and to me, Matthews ran a hell of a lot better, his only issue is pass blocking... And Tolbert isn't the better pass catcher, he's just in more on passing situations because of his blocking ability... Anyone with eyes can see Matthews is the better back and imo, waiting to explode. But listen to coach speak all you want.

Proof from week one is only that he had more balls thrown his way, and just happened to get 3 TD's. Goal line, yes, Tolbert is the winner because he's in the game. TD's are hard to project though and I'm guessing Tolbert doesn't do 3 td's again this year. But Mathews is a gamebreaker and a helluva lot more explosive than Tolbert will ever dream to be. Mathews is only in his sophomore season and I believe he will get more playing time in the future. Tolbert is a pretty good back, but Mathews is the RB of the future for SD.

Yeah way too much love for Tolbert. I think what was lost in the game last week was that Mathews actually had a pretty good game. He out gained Tolbert and had more receiving yards. I think the argument that Tolbert is "miles ahead" of Mathews in terms of pass blocking is over blown fantasy wise because how many points does pass blocking get you?

If Mathews was a horrible receiver out of the backfield THAN I would say Tolbet would be the clear cut choice, but Mathews wasn't horrible. In fact he showed he can be a receiving threat out of the backfield.

I think it's too early in the season to crown Tolbert and too early to discard Mathews as a scrub.

The point is, when Tolbert is in there because he is the better blocker, Mathews is on the bench. How many points does Mathews score sitting on the bench?

Thanks captain obvious. I can't believe some of you expected RB2 numbers out of him this year after butt focking us all last year. Are you kidding me? I'm laughing at the Greene/Mathews drafters after going that route last year.

Tolbert is proven, effective, and is a ###### bowling ball. Everyone that drinks the Mathews kook-aid deserves the rookie idiotic treatment of ignorance.

I own Ingram and I'll take him any day over both!

The same amount of points Tolbert gets when he is pass blocking. I'm not arguing that Tolbert isn't the most complete back.

My point is look at what Mathews was able to do with his touches. Ignore it if you want, but Mathews isn't just going to go away just because a newspaper said Tolbert is "miles ahead of him" in pass blocking.

Oh yeah, when did the San Diego Union-Tribune become the head coach of the San Diego Chargers?

Yep, this is why I have both of them on my team. I think Tolbert is the stronger play for now, but I can see Mathews taking over later in the season.

Tolbert has sucked in this game. Chargers would be tied or even leading if he could get a freaking yard around the goal line. Just a bad game or is the jig up?

To be such an arrogant ######, you need to be right a good amount of the time... You sir, are digging yourself a deeper and deeper grave everyday...

I probably won't be able to get Mathews that easy now. I was hoping he wouldn't show that well against NE. Definitely the more explosive RB of the 2.

The jig is up, the talent is busting loose.
