jerryskids 5,297 Posted June 28, 2012 SCOTUS ruled that the mandate survives not under the commerce clause, but under the tax clause. Seems like it was 5-4 with Roberts being the swing; Kennedy was on the dissent.

Recliner Pilot 61 Posted June 28, 2012 Thank God. Now the majority of the country has a clear reason to vote for Romney. The vast majority of America opposes Obamacare, so I agree this could be a rallying point for Reps. Also, the Supreme Court just ruled that Obama has increased taxes on every American. Another broken promise confirmed.

I'll bet you anything that Romney (if elected) doesn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. He might say he will, but he won't. Romney is no different than Obama IMO. I think you have the healthcare bill backwards as well. The bill forces poor people to buy healthcare against their wishes. The reason it was being reviewed by the scotus is because the bill forces people to buy a product.

The Next Generation 10 Posted June 28, 2012 I wonder how many businesses will drop coverage for employees in favor of the (probably cheaper) penalty imposed by the Act. This is what concerns me. I could see a boatload of corps doing this, including mine. They have already eliminated pensions and laid-off just about everybody they could lay-off. Now, they have yet another excuse to cut expenses to the detriment of their employees.

The reason it was being reviewed by the scotus is because the bill forces people to buy a product. No it doesn't. If you don't have a job, you have no money. You cannot pay a tax. Therefore, because Health Insurance is required, the .gov will provide it. It's just another fuckin entitlement and he wrote it craftfully enough that other people are going to pay for it because they'll be required to have health insurance or face a fine. It's fuckin wealth distribution through another means. Obama is no idiot. He just won the vote of every single welfare leech in the US.

TheNewGirl 1,053 Posted June 28, 2012 So now... My taxes will go from roughly 25% to 50% and I won't be able to feed my family. Depsite having a good job, paying my bills on time, and being a resonsible hard worker. Yet...my brother and his loser wife can walk away from their house, her be on unemployment because it "pays more", and they can keep popping out kids, and now I get to pay for their health care too. I highly doubt any medium to large coroporation would cut medical. If they want to remain competitve in the HR marketplace they won't. I can forsee a lot of small business totally stop providing health insurance though. i.e. Businessess that employ less than a 100 employees. Not only would it be cheaper but it costs those business resources to manage and track those benefits. Part of Obamacare is that business have to document and track all healthcare benefits they provide and supply reports to the government. That takes resources. TheNewGirl 1,053 Posted June 28, 2012 Don't take this personal, as I dig you...but WTF are you talking about? How do you think that the health care reform will be paid for? With our taxes, correct? So instead of paying roughly 25% of my income in taxes, it will be 50%. At least, from what I have read (here and otherwise) this is how I understand it will work. Obviously TNG just sort of made up the 25% to 50% number. Which is hypberbole. However this thing has to be paid for somehow. The rich can't do it alone and we are already in a debt crisis. Something has to give.

peenie 1,701 Posted June 28, 2012 i agree with newbie. how is mitt romney different than obama on the healthcare issue? The Massachusetts health care insurance reform law, St. 2006, enacted in 2006, mandates that nearly every resident of Massachusetts obtain a state-government-regulated minimum level of healthcare insurance coverage and provides free health care insurance for residents earning less than 150% of the federal poverty level. the Governor, Mitt Romney, announced that he would propose a plan to cover virtually all of the uninsured. there are people who do not have health care but they have health issues. they are treated at hospitals and they don't pay their bills or they are not treated at all. people who pay for health care end up having to take on the burden of those that cannot pay for themselves. how do your propose to fix this problem? simply complaining about the solutions doesn't hide the fact that you all have no solutions. Frank M 181 Posted June 28, 2012 So, how is Obamacare being paid for? from Wiki Summary of funding The Act's provisions are intended to be funded by a variety of taxes and offsets. Major sources of new revenue include a much-broadened Medicare tax on incomes over $200,000 and $250,000, for individual and joint filers respectively, an annual fee on insurance providers, and a 40% tax on "Cadillac" insurance policies. There are also taxes on pharmaceuticals, high-cost diagnostic equipment, and a 10% federal sales tax on indoor tanning services. Offsets are from intended cost savings such as improved fairness in the Medicare Advantage program relative to traditional Medicare.[42] Summary of tax increases: Broaden Medicare tax base for high-income taxpayers: $210.2 billion Annual fee on health insurance providers: $60 billion 40% excise tax on health coverage in excess of $10,200/$27,500: $32 billion Impose annual fee on manufacturers and importers of branded drugs: $27 billion Impose 2.3% excise tax on manufacturers and importers of certain medical devices: $20 billion Raise 7.5% Adjusted Gross Income floor on medical expenses deduction to 10%: $15.2 billion Limit contributions to flexible spending arrangements in cafeteria plans to $2,500: $13 billion All other revenue sources: $14.9 billion Original budget estimates included a provision to require information reporting on payments to corporations, which had been projected to raise $17 billion, but the provision was repealed.[43] Now you show me where in this it says that your taxes will go from 25% to 50%. You admit that you believe the Chicken Littles on this site? No wonder you're so afraid.
phillybear 365 Posted June 28, 2012 So, how is Obamacare being paid for? By tripling our current pathetic deficit. Hey, it's only imaginary money. Just keep printing. It doesn't have to be backed by real money or gold. It's all make believe. Wheeeeee!!!!!
