posty 2,848 Posted September 8, 2015 Watched the Babadook on demand last night. This was a horror movie for parents about parenting. First hour was incredibly tense but it didn't really know how to resolve itself. Overall though pretty decent horror film. Just watched this over the weekend... I enjoyed it... Cloaca du jour 2,157 Posted September 8, 2015 I enjoy the Statham films...all of them lol. Crank, blitz, the one where he hooks up with the nun, the one where he guards the asian girl., Homefront, in the name of the king.
MDC 8,084 Posted September 8, 2015 Just watched this over the weekend... I enjoyed it... Glad you liked it. It Follows was the other recent horror movie I liked a lot. It also faltered in the 3rd act but it did enough things right to be worthwhile anyway.
parrot 790 Posted September 8, 2015 Glad you liked it. It Follows was the other recent horror movie I liked a lot. It also faltered in the 3rd act but it did enough things right to be worthwhile anyway. Just watched The Babadook recently as well. Good movie, I wasn't a big fan of the ending either. The feeding it worms thing was dumb. I thought they should have left it ambiguous whether it was real at all, or a shared delusion by the mother and son. parrot 790 Posted September 9, 2015 I agree totally with your spoiler. I have a review of the movie online, if you're interested in seeing it I can PM the link. I agree with you too that there were some really good characterizations for a horror movie. I agree with you too that this movie was more disturbing than scary. I saw people call it one of the "scariest" movies ever. I really didn't get that from it. It was more disturbing in the frank portrayal of the mother. parrot 790 Posted September 9, 2015 2nd season came out a few weeks ago...better than the 1st imo. recommend this show. Finished Season 1 of Peaky Blinders last night. GREAT show. Glad to hear 2nd season is good too.
CantTouchThis 23 Posted September 9, 2015 It has its own topic, but Nacros is definitely checking out. If you haven't, watch Cocaine Cowboys and then start Narcos. I think the cocaine era is one one of the craziest and most interesting modern events to happen.
naomi 361 Posted September 26, 2015 Do NOT recommend Killing Season with Robert De Niro and John Travolta...somewhat boring movie about two guys torturing each other pretty much. You're only invested because you're hoping the underdog - the old guy, makes it. Oddly has great music though.

naomi 361 Posted September 26, 2015 Can anyone recommend a good psychological thriller? Enemy at the Gates...not a pure psyche thriller, but has a fair amount of psychological tension. Guessing you've seen it though. Same thing with Hurt Locker and Flowers of War. The Conspirator...not a thriller but similar to a tamer A Time to Kill. The Way Back...survival/endurance/interpersonal complexity with engrossing scenery. Before I Go To Sleep if really slow building tension sounds good, and watching with a woman. eta: A Most Wanted Man
MDC 8,084 Posted September 26, 2015 Can anyone recommend a good psychological thriller? Couple sort of modern noir films I really liked this year were Cold in July and Blue Ruin - both really good. It's a German movie and a little slower but The Silence was awesome. I've been watching a lot if older B&W movies lately and Les Diaboliques and Night of the Hunter were both awesome. More of a horror movie but Kill List was the best movie I've seen in a few years.

naomi 361 Posted September 26, 2015 Oh yeah...The Hunter with Willem Dafoe. Way better than it sounds plot wise, understood its high user rating afterward. Tasmania is a weird, interesting place.

CantTouchThis 23 Posted September 27, 2015 Kind of random, but I highly recommend In Bruges with Colin Farrell. It was one of those movies I stumbled upon in my recommendations one night when I was high and just looking for something to watch. I was shocked at how good it was considering I had never really heard of it. An emotionally charged, very dark comedy.

mobb_deep 921 Posted September 27, 2015 Watched a good doc called Rubble Kings last night. It's sort of the real story of the Warriors. Street gangs of the Bronx in the 70's.

I thought they should have left it ambiguous whether it was real at all, or a shared delusion by the mother and son. I don't think the feeding was meant to be literal. The Babadook is a thing that lives on inside the mother and she must acknowledge it while keeping it down. The son knows this

IGotWorms 4,063 Posted January 8, 2016 They've got Amadeus now, which is awesome. But it's the director's cut which is long (and the regular cut is pretty long already)

I read it as a sort of symbiotic relationship: boy needs protection, vampire offers that and grooms him to be her next Renfield. Other than some dodgy CGI effects it was pretty much flawless.
