ANOTHER shooting today

Recommended Posts

By the way, is it just me or does anyone else want to punch the idiot reporters who are interviewing CHILDREN about what happened?

And,at least a head slap to the parents who let it happen. :wall:

yes.

You can't set up metal detectors and security screening everywhere. We won't be able to solve this problem with a fortress mentality.

...And herein lies the problem with much of what ails America. This "All or nothing" mentality. This isn't the time to get into all the aspects/paths we could go down, but WTF is wrong with an improvement instead of a lead-solid lead-pipe-cinch absolute solution?

I'm in no mood to get into much of anything now, but time and time again, I see quotes like that. Hey, if we cut out even ONE of these focking senseless acts, I'm okay with that. Better to light a candle than constantly resign oneself to the darkness.

My view anyway. Can't believe how sad I am just watching little kids being walked away from the school. - And, like Mung and others have said, I don't even have kids.

This one's different, ya know? Instead of "Oh crap, not another one" , it's more like 9/11 - "They did what? Who would DO that?"

This one's gonna leave a mark. :(

This just makes me sick. I'm for stricter gun controls. More along the lines of background checks and and banning concealment of weapons in public. But I am not naive enough to think they would prevent most incidences like this from happening. It's just focked up.

Yeah, we can limit access to the tools that make this happen, and make it more difficult, but the only way it ever stops is if we get to the "WHY?". Not that there's ever going to be some answer that makes sense to the rest of us, but there is some combination of factors that push these fockers over the edge.

When the thread opened up I was being a little flippant, not knowing just what we were talking about here. I want to apologize for that now. I'm jaded, but I ain't that focking jaded. :(

Been thinking this all day. WTF. The reporters bosses boss needs to be evaluated for allowing it.

When my 8 yr old came home from school, we asked him what type of "lock down" drill they do. Basically, the plan is for the entire class of 25 students and the teacher to close the blinds, huddle up in the corner and shut up.

At first I was like, "Good, they have a plan."

Then I start thinking about it. If I were a crazed school shooter, I think I'd prefer all of my potential victims to be huddled together in a corner. Wouldn't it be more prudent for the kids to stand along the wall, and if the shooter enters the room, start running around like a bunch of screaming banshees? I mean, we teach our kids to scream, scratch, claw and otherwise fight to the death if a kidnapper tries to throw them in a van, why do we teach them to pile up and wait to get shot?

It's obvious why they want to huddle up, but you do have a thought provoking point.

I know some will argue it may piss the shooter off more and such, but the example, of a child screaming and kicking if being abducted and huddling up and being quiet in a shoot out, is interesting

Little kids, man. I can't get over that. No matter how angry you are at the world, how could you ever think innocent little children are at fault and deserve to die? That's beyond any kind of focked up I've ever heard about.

Can't help but be incredibly curious about the above:

What do you teach them if the kidnapper is driving say, a sedan? Do you have different methodologies for various types of motor vehicle?

"Now honey, if he's driving a Prius, run uphill - he'll never get you..." "If he's driving a pickup truck, run as fast as you can to the nearest Home Depot - at least a dozen Messicans will jump in the back - and he'd never do anything with that many witnessess.."

This is what I keep coming back to. I can understand if somebody goes and shoots up the workplace, or the post office, or some other place. I can understand shooting your mom. But, I can't for the life of me understand how you could just shoot, and keep shooting, over a dozen little kids. It's so beyond focked up :(

It's Saturday morning in China. As my children sleep peacably in their beds, I think of what i would do were a nutjob like this to arrive at the kindergarten where I work.

No, just the first thing that came to mind. Panel van = kidnapper.

You'll kill yourself trying to rationalize it, cause is is no rationalization for it.

Sh1t like this and the torture of innocents for study are about as low as it gets.

Dunno if any of you guys caught Brady Quinn's presser after the CAR game, but I think it applies to these random acts of violence. Quit blaming guns/gun owners/media....whatever. The fact is these acts would diminish if there was a stronger social network/community in place to help reach these sick focks before they do something horrible. Somebody coulda reached this dude before he went all psycho on a bunch of kids.

I disagree. People need to realize there are some people you can't "save". I don't give a flying fock how strong a social network or community is you can not "reach" people like Manson and Hitler.

Is that what keeps every other 1st world country from experiencing the US's homicide rate? Or is it their strict gun laws?

...Which is ironic, seeing as how Hitler had the answer for those that can't be "saved".

I mean yeah, sure, all we ever hear about is the Jews, but that's because they control the media and whatnot. What about the fact that Hitler solved all the retards, psychos, cripples, homos, gypsies, vegetarians, Mormons and all kinds of other defectives?

Seriously, if Hitler was alive today, do you think our kids would all be pumped full of Ritalin and Valium and Adderol and all that other crap? Hells no. The parents would be like "ADD?" No, no - my son's PERFECT. Autism, ADD, BiPolar, PETA, LGBT, Restless Leg Syndrome - never would have been invented.

But all Hitler ever gets credit for is the damn train schedule...

Apparently, the shooter-tard had all kinds of mental health issues. He'd have been in the E-Z bake long ago if we'd just realized that some people NEED killing. I put down my dog for a lot less than this focker had wrong with him.

I agree with you....you have to be completely off your rockers to decide to pump little kids full of lead......that's a kind of crazy that you cannot reach I think. And for the people who say that it would have been better if he hadn't shot himself, I'm pretty sure the families think differently. A couple of years ago, we had a guy on our street go nuts in his house and start shooting. He had done the same about a year before. The guy ended up committing suicide and believe me, it was an absolute relief. You never know if some bleeding heart won't manage to defend the indefensible.

This is the tough question we eventually need to address. With Laughner in the AZ shooting, everyone who knew him said he was whack and they were afraid something like this would happen. But you can't put someone away because they act weird, can you? :dunno:

I actually edited my last post. Mostly bc I don't trust the reporting on this story - God, it's been one F up after another.

However, what I've heard is that all guns were legally purchased by Mom. So:

1) Mom bought them to feel safe - How'd THAT work out for you? or:

2) Mom bought them for a kid she KNEW to be a mental defective. - And that's a WHOLE 'nother conversation I'm not going to start on a day like today. If she did or didn't, she didn't deserve to die and those little ones sure as fock had nothing to do with it.

I don't know. But, there needs to be a system where people diagnosed with mental illness or who have criminal records are flagged and not able to buy guns. That would have stopped both the VA tech shooter, and Loughner. And hopefully, many future shooters.

Just got done watching a bit of the coverage with my Mom.

The news talked about how the shooter apparently killed his Mom @ one place, then the kids. (again, I don't trust a focking thing the news is 'reporting' today)

Mom: "I wonder what went on between this boy and his Mom. You know, there are two sides to every story." (please bear in mind Mom's mental state.)

Me: "Well, you know what they say Mom. "Guns don't kill people. People's Mom's make people kill people."

For some reason, she found that less than amusing...

What's amazing and puts things into perspective a bit is this:

Do you realize it's harder to get an apartment lease than it is a gun? Think about it: You have less than stellar credit and you can't put a roof over your head. But bad credit, mental defective, 30 IQ, psycho drug prescriptions,"kill 'em all" T-shirt - whatever - no matter. As long as you don't have a felony and can pay cash, you're good to go.

Again, don't have the answer, but that should spark some conversation at some point.

Instead of just reading the news as I usually do, I'm trying to stream some ABCNews or NBCNews on this. Failure. Maybe my sh*tty connection speed, much like kilroy's refusal to trade me Bryce Brown, is actually doing me a favor.
