roroco 75 Posted October 12, 2014 There are a few teams that make the NFL better when they are better, for different reasons. Bears and Packers for the heritage and rivalry Steelers for the blue collar representation Niners for the west coast representation Cowboys for the drama
Serpent 51 Posted October 12, 2014 Agreed, it is more fun to watch them lose badly when it actually matters. If they manage to miss the playoffs after starting 5-1 it would top anything Romo has done previously in his career. My guess is they make the playoffs and then implode the first game. shorepatrol 1,870 Posted October 12, 2014 I see 3 wins the rest of the way but one never knows Unless they get killed with injuries , I see them winning this division. Murray is a beast with that O line , defense has been unreal lately and romo isn't shiitting the bed because of the latter. Should be fun division games the rest of the year

R8RMick 242 Posted October 12, 2014 Not quite yet This is hilarious. Frisco can't handle the Seahawks, and the Cowboys went into the northwest with the NFL's worst defense (on paper) and punched them in the mouth. The game wasn't even as close as the final score, without a muffed punt and another one blocked. It's NOT that the Cowboys are winning, I personally can't stand the f*cks. It's how they're doing it. Old school running the football. Protecting that God-awful defense, keeping the ball out of Romo's hands, and just old school smash mouth football. A solid running game settles everything down. The Seahawks knew it was coming late in the game, and could do nothing. Three number one picks on that O-line. If they continue with this game plan, this team is for real. Vern357 15 Posted October 13, 2014 I dunno, the Cowboys look like the hawks did last year. Run it hard, let your D be aggressive, and throw when you have to. And I am a hawks fan.

Serpent 51 Posted October 13, 2014 They still have the Giants twice, if the G-men win tonight and win the two against the Cowboys, I'd say the Giants are the favorites to win that division, and probably the SB. They're that type of team and Eli is that type of QB. He's been so awful the past couple of years the law of regression sort of indicates he'd be really good now. iam90sbaby 2,621 Posted October 13, 2014 Well because the tides are changing, the Cardinals are legit, and so are the Browns. Maybe not NFC/AFC champs yet, but they are close.

Similar offensive style to the 90's era Cowboys. Dominant offensive line, a talented RB behind them and a QB who can find his tight end and his #1 WR when he has to. They're finally fun to watch again.
sirensong 111 Posted October 13, 2014 ...keeping the ball out of Romo's hands... comedy right here. down by 3 in the 4th quarter, 3rd and 20. romo escapes a completely free pass rusher, resets in the pocket, and hits a 23 yard strike. last week--romo dodges a completely free JJ watt, and throws a 43 yard TD. then in OT, on 3rd and 8, romo takes a huge hit from a free blitzer...while delivering a 37 yard strike to bryant. the week before that--3 TD passes. the week before that--down by 4 late in the 4th. romo hits williams for the go-ahead TD. after the first half of game 1, romo has thrown 10 TDs and 2 INTs, completing >70% of his passes, despite taking a ton of pressure. and let's not forget, DAL is converting 3rd downs at a 56% clip, compared to the league average of 42%. they're not "taking it out of his hands". for the first time since 2007, they rest of the team is helping carry the weight.
Serpent 51 Posted October 13, 2014 It's gonna be a painful 8-8 this year. 2 games against the Giants, 1 against the Eagles, and then December (the other Eagles game is in December). If they lose those games and win all the rest they finish 8-8. Last game is against the Redskins, they'd probably go in at 8-7 and who knows, a win and they're in situation. I mean it keeps happening every year. 3 consecutive 8-8 finishes, a 4th wouldn't be out of the question.
KryptonKnights 6 Posted October 13, 2014 I know its hard for people to accept but this team is solid in every phase of the game except maybe special teams(some miscues on ST kept defending champs in a game they were getting owned by visiting opponent). And as far as special teams they have one of the best kickers in the league. They have the best offensive line in football, they have the best running back in the league, they have the best set of receivers outside of Denver and that defense that was supposed to be the worst in the league.....WOW. They are an aggressive and competent unit. Dallas is the best team in the NFC East by a huge margin and they have shown they are in the discussion about the best team in the NFL. They dismantled the defending champions at what was considered an impossible home venue for opponents.

Yeah I almost went back and edited, but just said WTF... Basically I meant, keeping the ball out of Romo's hand 50 times a game. This team can't win when he throws the ball 50 times and you know it. Your points of course are right on money, though his decision to call that time out late in the game was mind blowing. At that point keeping the clock moving, even for an extra 2-3 seconds, was critical. That pass he threw to Williams was Romo at his best. Not a fan of the Boys, but a big fan of the style of football they are playing. Looks like they have finally figured it out. Big issue still is Murray with 30 plus touches. They've got to scheme a way to get Randle and Dunbar more involved without disrupting offensive flow. Murray is an absolute horse (reminds me of a more physical Eric Dickerson but without the raw speed), but he'll buckle under this load come playoff time.
R8RMick 242 Posted October 13, 2014 And actually it's not the rest of the team finally carrying the weight, but a solid commitment to running the football. Their success on 3rd down has allowed the running game to flourish, and they have opposing defenses on their heels. They're running out of the shotgun, running pure draws... this in turn makes Romo lethal in the play action, and when he moves the pocket to extend plays. Most importantly they are controlling time of possession. This settles down what still is a bad defense on paper, protects it by keeping it on the sidelines. Their kicking game is lights out, though there's been glitches on special teams. But I'd assert it's more of a commitment by the coaches to play to their strength, and run the football, than it is a case of the rest of the team finally carrying the weight. Cruzer 1,995 Posted October 13, 2014 I still can't believe what I'm seeing. I knew the offensive line would be the strength of this team and I knew we'd move the ball. What I can't believe is the transformation the defense has undergone. This group of no-names is bringing the wood and punishing people. R. McClain has been a godsend - the dude is a freaking beast. Once Lee comes back those 2 are going to be something to watch. I guess you have to credit Rod Marineli for all of this - he is proving to be a genius. I have been begging for years for Jerry to build this team from the inside out. To address the offensive line and go from there. I'll be damn if he finally didn't figure it out and it's paying off big time.
rallo 136 Posted October 13, 2014 a much improved offensive live/ running the ball/ good use of play action is making this look like a playoff caliber team... now if they can only keep this going in november and december
Cruzer 1,995 Posted October 13, 2014 One thing I'm most shocked by is the fact that defense found a way to contain R. Wilson. One of the long standing Achilles heel of this team has been the running qb - they've always managed to kill us. Jimmy Johnson believed in young kids that could run side-to-side, looks like we might have that again.

giraldi02 474 Posted October 13, 2014 As long as DeMarco Murray stays healthy, the Cowboys are going to be legitimate contenders. The one troubling thing is...the dude has coughed the ball up in every single game. Yesterday when he was running to the sidelines, the ball literally just popped out his hands and went airborne. No contact whatsoever. It'd be a shame for a guy that literally is in contention for MVP to lose a playoff game due to one untimely fumble. As for Romo...I make fun of him as much as most, but he has made some ballsy clutch throws this year. That throw on 3rd and 20 was clutch. If Aaron Rodgers makes that play everyone everywhere is already tattooing his name on their biceps

Stephen is actually the one who talked him out of it. I guess Jerry at least gets credit for finally listening to somebody else.
