It is amazing that republican voters can't acknowledge that it was republicans that crashed the economy. Republican ideas like de-regulation and trickle down carried out by elected republicans. I thought they were the responsible ones?

Not entirely accurate, Bill Clinton played an important role; its politicians in general, who succumb to the money of big business, not so much a Dem vs Repub thing

Something he has in common with the moron attempting to undercut his message. Still waiting for any evidence that any politician is actively working against minorities.

Only a focking moron thinks that any politician is doing anything more than trying to get money and votes, the ffort required to subjugate some element of society does not bring profit or votes.

Since race has been a factor in exactly zero Presidential elections or administrations prior to this one, it makes the whole discussion pretty insipid and merely fodder for those looking to exploit it.

Yes Clinton had a part in it. But he was carrying out a republican policy. It wasn't the only time he acted just like a republican. Nafta, don't ask don't tell, lowering cafe standards . He wasn't the liberal he's made out to be

Likely true, but are poor whites worse as well? I think this is less about race than it is about the middle and lower middle class being raped due to the influence of big business in how votes are cast.

Its less about color, far more about unmitigated greed and the desire of big business to squeeze the life out of the very people that produce.

Not exactly, google the community reinvestment act, that was a clintonian action that had an important role the the later collapse, and greenspan was ruining the economy long before it died during the republican reign.

Not saying that republicans do not carry a big burden here, they do, but you should not think that the democrats are without fault....they had an important role in delivering the recession to us.

Poor government policy, dating back to the early clinton years, coupled with piss-poor decisions on the part of Greenspan, and augmented by some really terrible stuff during Bush ( banruptcy reform is one glaring example) and you have all the makings of economic disaster.

The community reinvestment act came in to being under Carter. And it wasn't a factor in the collapse, as the motgage a written under the cria performed quite well. It's folly to think the banks got pushed around by the government, seeing as they own it.

Remember the speech the bush did where he came right out and said everybody deserves to have a house. His administration pushed really hard on the subprime nonsense. I'm not saying he was the first, but sure as hell was complicit.

Oh, I always did. This is nothing more than whack-a-mole with about 5 of them. They can't understand how they're being outed, and then used for target practice.

You are conflating two occurrences. While the act of which you speak DID in fact come into play during Carter one must wonder, why in the world did it take so darn long to crush the economy.....hmmmm, that is a really interesting thing eh?

It was under Bill Clinton, who admittedly was only trying to help lower income people, that the problem first arose. https://www.cnbc.com/2016/05/28/are-the-clintons-the-real-housing-crash-villains.html

Under Clinton's Housing and Urban Development (HUD) secretary, Andrew Cuomo, Community Reinvestment Act regulators gave banks higher ratings for home loans made in "credit-deprived" areas.

it was under Clinton that Greenspan first took the actions that would later lead to disaster, and make no mistake that Bush did not help either.... https://www.businessinsider.com/the-cra-debate-a-users-guide-2009-6

What's more, George W. Bush was a major proponent of the kind of mortgages that banks had started making under the CRA. He urged low-to-no doc mortgages and the elimination of downpayments, just like the CRA regulators had long done. "We certainly don't want there to be a fine print preventing people from owning their home," the President said in a 2002 speech. "We can change the print, and we've got to."

Often the truth is more interesting, and considerably more complex, that what CNN tells you to think, or what your political bias needs to be true to feel like you have some higher sense of morality.

In 2009, Obama bailed out the banks but didn't bail out the regular people or people in debt, using the argument that the effect of bailing out the banks would trickle down to the rest of society. If the democrats believe trickle down doesn't work, then Obama should have forgiven student loans, personal loans for Americans, bailed out other individuals in debt. But he did not. Obama literally used the trickle down theory to fix the economy in 2009.

Here's the list. $200 billion in trickle down money to bail out the banks from the democrats and Obama.

https://money.cnn.com/news/specials/storysupplement/bankbailout/

The vote on the bill for trickle down was 263-171, with republicans blocking the trickle down and getting ripped in the press for doing it.

http://www.nbcnews.com/id/26987291/ns/business-stocks_and_economy/t/bush-signs-billion-financial-bailout-bill/

House leaders said the difference was lawmakers’ work to shift the focus from the bailout of financial companies to the boost it would give homeowners, small businesses and individual investors.

That's a direct quote from DEMOCRATS, arguing that bailing out financial companies will TRICKLE DOWN to homeowners, small busineses, and individual investors.

If you are against trickle-down, you go DIRECTLY to homeowners, small business, and individual investors and bail them out. That was not done.

Totally agree. Big reason I came to despise him after supporting him.
