Deer population is way down here in Minny this year. The DNR mismanaged the herd big time then we had two hard winters. Went last weekend and didn't even see one to shoot. Ended up in the bar for three days so I still chased a doe.

It seems like our population never goes down here. They are everywhere all the time. I missed a 12 pointer last year. Biggest damn buck I ever saw in my life and I got the classic case of buck fever. I am setting up at the exact spot that I missed him last year and this year I am going to be using a .50cal muzzleloader with much less drop to the bullet than the shotgun I was using last year.

A buddy of mine is a serious deer hunter. Old guy with a lot of money that's hunted his whole life. Travels all over to different areas of the country. Loves the sport with unrivaled passion. Anyway, his girlfriend put a cartoon clip in his gun bag of a deer standing behind some trees pointing a gun at an suspecting hunter in a deer blind. He's having nightmares of this ever since.

Just nothing my way today. I sat and watched my baitpile and saw a monster buck standing there....once it got light that monster turned out to be some damn bushes. FML. I know I have deer coming to the pile though. I can see the tracks and they are tearing my sugarbeets up and eating the apples.

Its just the way its done. I use a mixture of sugar beets, apples and a salt block. It gets them used to using certain trails. I am not in it for the sport of it all. I want venison because I love the taste. whatever draws them in so I can shoot them and is legal I will use.

Depends on where you live. If you're inside of a city limits, it's usually illegal to discharge a firearm. In the country, no problem as long as you have a hunting license for the area.

If you back up to a preserve you should be fine. My land backs up to state land and I draw them in from that.
