I think that the whole integrity of the game thing gets blown out of proportion. Players break rules all the time. Is deflating footballs really any different than a receiver that practices and perfects push-off techniques so that they don't get called for PI? Both are blatent attempts to circumvent established rules. The only real difference is that the penalty for pushing off is well defined. Or how a about the bitzing LB who crushes the QB with a late hit. He probably gets a 15 yard penalty. Maybe he gets slapped with a fine - rarely a 1-game suspension.

And why does it have to be leather? Let him chose the ball material. And why brown. Each team should chose the color of their choosing

No. All I'm saying is that whatever deflation occurred apparently wasn't enough to be detected by game officials who should have stopped the game if they noticed anything suspicious about the balls that they handle after every play. Clearly, Brady and the Patriots tried to get away with something that is against the rules. This is very similar to a WR who tries to get away with a push-off. The only difference is that the rules clearly state the penalty for pushing off - I expect we'll find out the penalty for deflating balls soon enough. The real question is why the league doesn't require both teams to use the same balls as provided by the league.....

I see a new rule change coming soon from the NFL offices. These is just to stupid to focus on . He did break the current rule and will lose some playing time . But I agree let the team make the choice of psi . It's just to darn silly to worry about how much air is in the football , and how it could change the outcome of any football game , it can't be that easy to win games just from changing the psi in a football . But they did break the rules and will be punished for it . Just don't let Peterson be in charge of dishing out the punishment .

That anyone thinks that Belichick didn't know about the deflated balls is laughable. There's nothing (especially underhanded) that happens on that field that he didn't authorize. Satan knows all evil. BB deserves a suspension as well and the Pats should lose MULTIPLE draft picks for once again cheating.

 

Brady did not cooperate with the investigation, apparently thinking he was above reproach. He must have also thought the guy he was in communication with would be smarter than to put anything in writing. The attempt at cover up is the part that's going to get his cheating a$$ suspended. I'm putting my money on 4 games but he should be gone for at least 8 games. It did affect the outcome of games or else he wouldn't do it. PERIOD.

 

Also, the NFL should make both teams use the same ball and be done with it.

What deterrent is a fine to someone who makes millions? None. Any punishment levied should make it clear that rules will be followed to the letter.

 

The NFL should punish Brady in the one way his ego understands; being benched.

 

And they should punish the Patriots organization in the one way they'll understand since money and draft picks apparently doesn't stop them from cheating; void their Championship.
