++ UPDATE: 4-Game Suspension Upheld - 11 of 12 footballs NE used were deflated 2psi!

Recommended Posts

Wow, so now I am a Pats fan for asking the question? Not hardly. I feel my question is still unanswered. NFL officials have stopped play for a wide variety of reasons, from illegal forearm pads to illegal face masks and spikes, etc. So........all I am asking is why did they not take the balls out of play, since they handled the balls before every snap?

Cheating is cheating no matter how long it takes to get caught.

It's fair to ask why the refs allowed the balls out of their sight, why the spare balls weren't put in play when the game balls were found to be missing, etc. oldguru you are correct in wondering why the refs didn't pull the balls since they handled them before every snap, because I asked the same question myself. In my eyes its one of two possible things;

1) refs allowed all this to happen because they knew Goody had the swat team ready to swipe the balls

2) there was so much other bs going on with normal prep/admin of game day that they just missed it

for the record I'm with option 2.

but if you're asking the questions of the refs and implying doubt or derelict duty then I would ask in return: why did the patriots and Brady refuse to cooperate with any/all aspects of the league's inquiry? doesn't the refusal of cooperation cause you to wonder what the pats had to hide?

dirty before and dirty again. with the same coach and qb.

my fandom was questioned herein, because I said that had my team cheated like the pats I'd have not come here to defend them. but it doesn't matter if 'every team is doing it' because the pats are the ones who've been caught. twice now.

What a bullsh1t statement. The Patriots cooperated fully in this with the only exception being Brady's refusal to hand over his cell phone and not allowing them to interview the ball boy for a FIFTH time. They were able to interview everyone, some of them multiple times, they got the Patriots' security footage, and who knows what else they got but it was clearly pretty broad access.

Those two exceptions prove my point. It's the off season - why refuse to have the ball boy go meet again? Why not put some pressure on Tommy to have his lawyer go through the phone? Categorical denial and obstruction. The kinds of things guilty parties do.

Were I Bobby Kraft I'd have been personally driving them both to the focking meetings. I'd have told Tommy his wifes boobies aren't that big a gd deal and to hand over the focking phone. If there's a problem in your organization you fix it, you don't obfuscate and deny.

You obviously don't know what "categorical" means. They cooperated quite a bit, it was only those last two items they resisted. And one could easily argue a fifth focking interview is simply abusive and that Brady would have been a g0ddamned fool to hand over his phone with all the leaks out of the league office. A person's whole life is on their phone these days

It's possible that Brady was emailing/texting Belichick or someone else in the Pats org about the footballs and THAT is what he's trying to keep secret.

Asterisks Galore regarding the Pats "success". Thats the best and most beautiful part about all of this. So, so sorry......

Anytime a comparison attempted to be made about great teams of the past, The pats will always be the "odd team out". Oh well. They should have thought about all of that before pulling all the various BS that they've pulled - and who knows what else they've done which they didnt get caught for. The element of trust is GONE.

Spot on; I assume it all. I've been saying that since Spygate.

Now Kraft is coming out and saying he trusts Brady and that Brady's never lied to him. So either he knew what Brady was doing or won't ask him.

Yeah, same with Aaron Hernandez. :music_guitarred:

The Patriots have only cheated 2 times, they are just incredibly unlucky and got caught the only 2 times they tried.

I will say this: I respect you IGotWorms. You're here sticking up for your team in the face of the rest of our musings, which is more than I can say about pretty much the rest of the Pats fans who were here doing so before the Wells report came out. We don't see eye to eye on the rule breaking actions of your team, but I respect your tenacity nonetheless.

Yeah. That's why the NFL spent millions of dollars to have Ted Wells do this.

It may be meaningless to you or IGotWorms...but when a league has the words cheating thrown around, especially involving a team that won the league championship, you best believe if THEY don't so something about it:

a) The mob will

b ) Vegas will (potentially a included)

c)Advertisers will

d)Congress will (Taxpayers build stadiums)

Yeah, Kraft is going down with this ship. I used to respect the old codger but now he comes across like he's lost his marbles.

So much for innocence. If the Patriots organization truly felt they did no wrong, there's simply no way they accept this punishment.

What I want to know though is whether this has any bearing on Brady's discipline. Seems like the organization would at least pursue this avenue, even if just an exercise in futility, in order to give more credence to Brady's argument.

Even Revis calls Brady and Pats cheaters. So Revis basically has no respect for Brady. Lol

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/darrelle-revis--former-patriot--calls-patriots-out-on-cheating-history-013437841.html

Revis, who earned a Super Bowl ring with the New England Patriots last season, has moved on from that lone season in New England pretty quickly. "(The Patriots) have a history of doing stuff," Revis said, according to Mehta. "You can't hide that Tom was there when they did that stuff in the past.

Without question, but to be fair only because he continued to try to defend Br*dy even after he must have known.

I think he was put into a tough spot but made the best of it. My gut tells me that Goodell likely conveyed to Kraft the information he had and that was hidden from Wells, and Kraft backed down once he was fully aware of everything the NFL had on his team.

says the guy who supports the other side of the story. the text messages dude! the phone calls and contact, the refusal to turn over phone evidence, that's getting into irrefutable territory there. not saying the discipline isn't a farce and bullhsit. saying Tom Terrific knew he liked his balls a lil softer than most, and went to cheating lengths to get/keep them that way. And Bill knew it.

Lets sum up the cause of the penalties handed out for Deflategate.

1-The Patriots have been fined $1,000,000 and lost a 1st round pick because one of their employees called himself the "deflator"

2-Brady currently will be "fined" nearly $2,000,000 for not letting the NFL look at information in his phone. Salary for 4 games (Favre fined $50,000 in 2010 for similar reason)

It does not matter if you hate Brady and the Patriots or love them, that is really all that has been established. Also based on science reports published recently it is more probably than not, that no air was let out of the footballs purposely. Hell 3 of the 4 Colts balls measured at halftime were below 12.5.

Favre and Brady's lack of cooperation regarding sharing information on their phone is night and day. One has to do with the integrity of the game. The other has to do with a guy's genitals
