NFL: 11 of 12 Pat's balls under inflated.

Recommended Posts

Disagree.

Refs inspect footaballs, were given back to Pats and when they got to the field they weren't legal. NFL doesn't need to know who did it...they can punish the crime, Pats were responsible for safe guarding football and failed. You don't need a picture of Brady deflating them.

Well, okay, but without a 'smoking gun' I think all you'll see is some rather small fine and that's it.

you know that the refs checked the psi before the game ?

Well, I don't think Mike Honcho was there personally....but all the reports, all the sources etc have said the balls were checked by referee Walt 2hrs before the game. There are links all in this thread.

What is some coach's kid or water boy was the one who did the actual ball deflating? Think he should be suspended? Why do you need a smoking gun? If it is found that the ref did actually check the balls before the game, and they were 2 lbs below acceptable at halftime, the Pats are guilty. Period. I'm pretty sure the league isn't going to send the message that cheating is worth the risk if you just have a low-level employee or volunteer do the dirty work.

Drobs, who should be suspended? (sorry, quote function doesn't work for me)

whoever is found responsible, even Brady or belichik

I don't think people will be suspended. Probably a nice fine...Brady will get off clean since they can't prove he did anything and he threw the equipment guy under the bus.

Its a pretty minor and lame thing, but still a rule.

Since there is no way of proving where the orders came from, you're talking about a ball boy or equipment manager. Ouch, I hope New England can survive that suspension.

This makes it's way up to Brady for sure. The NFL probably won't go that high, but he almost certainly directed the deflation. At the minimum, he was aware of it the second he picked up the first ball.

Every QB that has commented on this says there is no way he didn't notice the difference.

Belicheat has such a history of cheating I wouldn't be shocked that it came directly from him.

They cheated (again), got caught (again), and are now scrambling to find the fall guy (again).

Most of them are just assuming the refs checked them because they were supposed to. Doesn't mean they actually did

Ref said he did. Maybe he thought he did, and was just hit by a weird, unexplained drop in barometric pressure that confused him.

To all those (and they all seem to be Pats fans) who are saying this is ridiculous and that the air pressure is irrelevant, here's what I know.....back in high school, I could dunk an underinflated basketball. Because I could palm it. It made my smallish hands seem big (Hi Brady). You can also swipe an underinflated ball out of midair with one hand much easier (Hi Gronk). It is also much easier to hold onto than a hard ball (Hi NE running backs and their ZERO fumbles this season).

I'd love to know how long they've been doing this. Since the KC game? All season? Multiple seasons? Hmmm, with Belichick and Brady, it certainly makes you wonder.

Serious question for the Patriot fans.........

Forget all the stuff that Belichick and Brady are saying. And forget that there may have been some atmospheric pressure drop on one sideline but not the other..

IF, and I'm just saying IF, it is found that the balls were inflated by someone on the patriots sideline, what do you feel the punishment should be?

The Pats inflate their balls to 12.5 psi, the minimum, and during the game they drop to 12.2 psi. The Colts inflate to 13, they drop to 12.7. Do the Pats deserve an penalty? If they intentionally deflated the balls after the refs inspected them, then they deserve a fine. If they lied about it, then suspension. But there is no way either Brady or Belicheck get suspended for the Super Bowl.

This whole thing is very every kid gets a trophy stuff. Sorry you didn't win Colts, but the reason was the Patriots balls weren't inflated to the proper psi. The guys on Movin the Chains on NFL radio were embarrassed that they had to talk about it at all.

You sukk at math. The were 2psi under regulation, which puts them at 10.5 psi.

Uh, Herbivore, no. I don't think dropping to .3 under should warrant a penalty. Dropping to 10.5 should. That's a full 2.0 difference. Your example could possibly be some atmospheric change. Also, keep in mind, this wasn't just one ball that may have a had a tiny leak near the valve. This was 11 balls. All at 10.5 pounds of air pressure

This was what I was figuring... Inflate to the minimum PSI at room temperature and the ball will deflate when it goes to colder areas... I was wondering what the Colts inflated their footballs to...

The NFL won't put it back to where they supply the balls because the QBs won't be happy and I would venture to guess that scoring would go down because of the feel/gloss/slickness, etc...

What frustration? We are laughing at you. Just wait until you see what the Pats have in store for cheating in the SB. Whatever you expect is going to happen, it will be something else. Even bigger and better.

They still haven't made it to #5 from the last time they got caught cheating.

I've paid my dues
Time after time
I've done my sentence
But committed no crime
And bad mistakes
I've made a few
I've had my share of sand
Kicked in my face
But I've come through

And we mean to go on and on and on and on

We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting
Till the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers
'Cause we are the champions of the World

I've taken my bows
And my curtain calls
You brought me fame and fortune
And everything that goes with it
I thank you all
But it's been no bed of roses
No pleasure cruise
I consider it a challenge before
The whole human race
And I ain't gonna lose

And we mean to go on and on and on and on

We are the champions - my friends
And we'll keep on fighting
Till the end
We are the champions
We are the champions
No time for losers

I went the other way with it. At first, it was stupid and annoying. Now, I look at guys like Aikman out there spewing off on stuff and I have to laugh at it because it is so funny.

Question for Drob since he's the one actually answering questions:

If the following things turn out true:

Balls were measured pregame (signs point to yes)

11 of 12 balls were ~2psi under-inflated at halftime (I think we all agree that's true)

Do you think there's any way Brady is not responsible?

And if so, what's your definition of responsible?

If the blame goes to someone like an equipment manager, do you honestly think he did it on his own without Brady knowing?

More than likely, this has been happening all year.

The equipment manager has known since day one how Brady likes his balls.

You think Brady actually sits down to discuss it with him prior to each game? Unlikely.

Definitely not prior to each game but that's a non-factor. The information about how Brady likes his balls 2psi low got to the person that let air out somehow and there's only 1 person that could have been the original source. Hell, it could have even been Brady telling Giselle who told the hot dog guy who told the equipment managers son who told the equipment manager but the source is still Brady.

It's been stated multiple places that they were 2psi below the minimum. I don't think that's up for debate.

What about Santa Claus??
