Kopy 561 Posted July 19, 2015 WWE payper view tonight. Not 1 of their big 3, so I'm sure it'll be a crap fest. But what the hell, I got nothing else better to do.
MDC 7,219 Posted July 20, 2015 The best moment in wrestling history was when Roddy Piper hit Superfly Snuka in the head with the coconuts. I cried when I was

NEWPOSTERGUY! 288 Posted July 21, 2015 tl;dr ... BUT any wrasslin' thread that is bereft of praise for the likes of Bruno Sammartino, Chief Jay Strongbow, Pedro Morales, Tori and Tanaka, and the Iron Claw is kinda FAIL. HTH -
Kopy 561 Posted July 21, 2015 All due respect to Sammartino. Take him out of Madison Square Garden, and he doesn't have much left to show for. He was a stand up guy, and did a great deal of good for the eastern immigrant communities in places like Boston, New York, Philly. But as a wrestler, he was severely over rated. He lucked out that Senior liked him, and that Vince left the NWA. The WWWF was able to then just stay regional and not tour the world.

TD Ryan2 316 Posted July 21, 2015 The first and ONLY time Andre the Giant lost or was even knocked down. Folks were worried if Andre would let this happen. He passed the torch to HH, like a real man. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JD4Y6TqmAfY That's the one I was going for... Hogan slams Andre... without a doubt the most memorable wrestling moment for me. Maybe add some Snuka off the top rope with the bell too... who did Superfly brain with the bell? Ricky Steamboat? My single best moment for me was when I saw Big Van Vader do a moonsault for the first time. WOW! The guy was 400 to 450 most of his Vader career, and here he is doing a friggen moonsault. It was incredible.

HTH You forgot Larry Zibysko (sp?). He had Sammartino's number. I used to love the guys that always got their butts kicked like "The Unpredictable" Johnny Rodz and Jose Luis Rivera. Leaping Lanny Poffo would read a cocky poem he taped to a bottom of a Frisbee and throw a few out to the crowd. Then he would proceed to get his arse kicked. Eddie Figueroa (not the Yankees fahg pitcher) used to watch at 11 on Saturday nights, was called "LUCHA LIBRE", and was broadcast here in NYC on the spanish channel 41 pure, unadulterated schlock ... loved how they would X out the screen when 'blood' was drawn , and the Iron Claw always had Xed out matches ... as a kid, i found that sh!t hilarious
Bishop82 61 Posted July 22, 2015 The greatest day in wrestling was any day that I was watching ECW. Also, the debut of the Shockmaster. Saw this video a few days ago and brought back a lot of memories.

I dont remember the Rivera one. But back in the day David Schultz slapped the crap out of a tv reporter who called wrestling fake. It was in the early 80's on a 20/20 type show. I cant remember if he got sued, but it did cost him his job with Vince. Schultz was a bully and a nut job. But the boys sure did respect the heck out of him for " protecting the business. This shizz was classic. I absolutely cant stand when people go out of their way to say wrestling is fake as if its trying to be real fighting. Its not, its theater, pageantry, drama its no different than a play. Would you go up to a hamlet actor and tell him his play was fake and not really happening? Even as a little kid I knew it was showmanship. You know movies are fake too? Jurassic park isnt real, you know that? Really burns me up. Gee really, so the undertaker really isnt a magic undead demon and Papa shango didnt really put a curse on the ultimate warrior? Noooo.

phillybear 366 Posted July 22, 2015 Yes. My most hated tag team of all time, has to be the Bushwackers. Fock I hated them Then you didn't catch them pre WWF. They had a reputation in the circuits, but I first got a look at them when Bill Watts went national with his promotion, Universal Wrestling Federation, headlined with the Fabulous Freebirds, Sting, DIngo (Ultimate) Warrior, Dr Death Steve Williams, Eddie Gilbert, Ted DiBiase, Terry Taylor, Jim Duggan etc. Among the talent were teh Sheepherders, the precursor to the Bushwackers. Back then, the were absolute violence machines. Probably the second most feared tag team out there, just behind the Road Warriors. They entered Vince's group, and were a joke. Their schtick was some of the funniest stuff and it still cracks me up when I youtube it. Bubba ray yelling at Devon to "Get the tables!" and then slamming people throught hem was classic. They even slammed multiple women from the top rope powerbomb. Bubba would sit there with a blank stare as if he was in a trance. Cracks me up.

You forget that, at that time, wrestlers and their fans insisted that it was not entertainment and it was not scripted in any way. They (WWF/WWE) finally had to come clean and admit that it was all scripted and for entertainment purposes only. However, there were (still are) wrestling dorks who did not believe it and insisted that it was all legitimate sports.
