Would you support the Feds requiring photo I.D. for all General Elections?

Recommended Posts

Though...here is the question. It has to be free...including transportation to a place to obtain one (part of the issue is where to get ID and the hours).

But...free is free to them...how much do we spend on trying to solve a problem that is statistically insignificant? If we can come up with a cost that is equally as insignificant cost wise...have at it. Print those IDs up.

As you say, insignificant so there should be no cries about people trying to keep a certain segment of the population from voting.

But in the interest of taking away that argument from people, spend whatever it takes after all 'it would be preserving people's right to vote. No cost is too great for that.'

How is this even a political issue?

This is what's wrong with politics.

This is what's wrong with politics.

It's a political issue because the less fortunate tend to vote democrat. And it's the less fortunate who may not have a vehicle, or even a house. And certainly not online access. All things that make getting an ID easier. The reason Republicans push for this so hard is because they want to eliminate as many Democratic voters as possible.

This issue has nothing to do with voter fraud. Voter fraud is a non-issue. The very definition of fake news. This issue has everything to do with Republicans not wanting all Americans to be able to vote.

Is this a fact or something the left has dreamed up to keep their "voters"

Which side pushed for the voter ID thing? And why do you suppose that is?

as mentioned 25 times in this thread.

You need a focking ID for just about everything in this country.

A lot harder to fake who you are when you're required to use one.

We aren't talking needing a license, just a picture ID. Why is that so focking difficult?

This. :pointstosky: Since were talking about the impoverished, we simply put a "FREE" in their hands along with the EBT card.

Why are people so desperate for people to vote who's lives are so fûcked up they can't even get an ID?

You can't even get an ID. It's probably safe to say you aren't up to speed on the issues of the day.

I know a shitton of people that don't have a license. For numerous reasons. Grew up in the city, parents didn't give a sh1t, couldn't afford it.

every single damn one of them has an ID though.

You know, to live life? prove who you are. go to a bar?

Many people feel requiring people to obtain and produce an ID is nothing more than a poll tax on the poor.

Many people feel requiring people to obtain and produce an ID is nothing more than a poll tax on the poor.

this is from 2008.

So, exactly how much does an ID cost in the 50 States? Not a DL, mind you, just a basic ID card
Alabama – $23
Alaska – Under 60 is $15, over 60 is free
Arizona – $12. Over 65 is free
Arkansas – $10
California – $23. Free for those over 62. $7 for low income folks
Colorado – $10.50. Free for those over 60
Connecticut – $15
Delaware -$5
Florida – $3 whole friggin’ dollars!!!!!!
Georgia -$20 for 5 years, $35 for $10 years
Hawaii – $15 for under 65, $10 for over 65
Idaho – $7.50. Renewals can even be done by mail
Illinois – $20, free for seniors over 65with no renewal necessary
Indiana – $13 under 65, $10 for over 65, last for 6 years, which is the state this whole kerfuffle is over
Iowa – $5
Kansas – $18 under 65, $14 over 65
Kentucky – $12
Louisiana – Average $21, free for over 60
Maine – $5
Maryland – $15, free for those over 65
Massachusetts – $15
Michigan – $10, free for seniors. Oh, and those with mental impairments (hint, hint)
Minnesota – $15.50, $10.75 for those 65 and up
Mississippi – $13
Missouri – $11
Montana – $8
Nebraska – $23.75 (lots of different fees for those under 21)
Nevada – $11.25. For 65 and up, new is $6.25, renewal is $2.25
New Hampshire – haven’t been able to find the cost, even at the New Hampshire DMV or New Hampshire’s main site
New Jersey – $24
New Mexico – $5 for 5 years, $8 for 10 years
New York – Depending on length, $9 to $14. 62 and up, $6.50
North Carolina – $10
North Dakota – $8
Ohio – $8.50
Oklahoma – $10
Oregon – $29 for 8 years
Pennsylvania – $10, and they make it really, really easy
Rhode Island – $15, free for 59 and up

If you can't afford that, you shouldn't vote. Focking christ.

If voting is that important to you, you find a way to save 5 bucks a year for 6 years

Even poor people waste 20, 30 bucks on sh1t.

stop making excuses and acting like ID's cost $300

and I'm not even registered to vote!!!

Also probably safe to say that the current state of things haven't worked out so well with them. In my book, that makes their vote more important than the guy who's gotten everything he ever wanted his entire life.

There is a subset of republicans that believe that there are illegal aliens voting democrat and that a voter ID law would fix the issue.

It's a ridiculous argument at this point, luckily, 31 states have made the argument moot by requiring some form of ID.

Only a matter of time before all other states are on board.

And that subset has never been able to provide an ounce of proof. They need to pretend that's the reason because they can't come out and say we'd like to make it difficult for less fortunate people to vote.

If they can guarantee that every single person who wants to vote, has the chance, and it won't cost them a penny, then I'd be willing to listen. But that becomes a cost and logistics issue, also.

I'm not dodging sh1t. I don't care what side says what. I'm a centrist. Everyone should have an Id.

Are you telling me IDs are too expensive? is that your take why everyone can't have one? They don't have time to wait in the DMV line?

I think when kids take the MCAS or SAT, they shouldn't have to bring an ID. fock they are only 16, they can't afford one

Remember that USED to be the case? What happened? kids paid other kids to take the test for them.

Now they need an ID. Rather simple logic.

Uh uh uh.......every single person who wants to vote? Nope......every single person who has a right to vote i.e. citizens, non-felons, etc.

I am a fairly moderate republican. So much so that I look like a hippy compared to some of the crazies on this bored. I support voter ID laws. I think it would reduce the already extremely small amount of voter and would also provide a benefit to the citizens. Getting a photo ID is good thing.

The problem of voter fraud is the one that is statistically insignificant.

Keeping people from voting is not. Even it is a small margin...voting is a right and making it harder for some is a non-starter.

Spend whatever it takes? Why? Because you feel there is so much fraud (despite the statistics that say otherwise)? Not a very conservative view point there.

In NC it was a fact...the things they tried enacting were shown to be done to affect voting of the other side.

https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=nc%20voting%20laws%20overturned

Pick your source...

my source is common sense.

No reason everyone can't/shouldn't have a picture ID in America.

A. Because voter fraud is not a significant issue in this country.

B. An ID will not likely stop the occurrences of fraud that have been reported.

The right (meaning lawmakers) don't give a crap about voter fraud. They care about doing what they can to make sure their side has an advantage based on the numbers. In this case...the numbers show that groups that typically vote democrat would be less likely to have an ID...therefore, they are for strict voter ID laws (and others that would restrict hours and so on like in NC). Democrats are no better...they know there numbers are hurt by such laws and oppose it for that reason. If the statistics were reversed...the party's opinions on the laws would be as well.

I support some of them yes...not all voter ID laws are equal...and as I said...do it cheap/free and make them available or transportation available...bring them on.

As long as they are instituted like some of these laws have been recently...pound sand.

My link was not just about IDs...but about other laws that were enacted in order to limit voting by certain groups.

There are reasons people don't have IDs in America...whether you think that is common sense or not...just the truth.
