His statement says he went to Assange on his own to get proof it wasn’t the Russians, and if he could give it to him, he’d talk to Trump about a pardon. That doesn’t sound like an unrealistic statement to me. It also wouldn’t be the first time the news has gotten twisted. Both sides are spinning this to their advantage... 

I’m more curious about what will be entered into evidence to support his claim.

At no time did I talk to President Trump about Julian Assange.  Likewise, I was not directed by Trump or anyone else connected with him to meet with Julian Assange. I was on my own fact finding mission at personal expense to find out information I thought was important to our country.  I was shocked to find out that no other member of Congress had taken the time in their official or unofficial capacity to interview Julian Assange.  At no time did I offer Julian Assange anything from the President because I had not spoken with the President about this issue at all.  However, when speaking with Julian Assange, I told him that if he could provide me information and evidence about who actually gave him the DNC emails, I would then call on President Trump to pardon him. At no time did I offer a deal made by the President, nor did I say I was representing the President.

So you think it was some well-coordinated sinister plan, but they screwed up and accidentally called a press conferrer right before the election to tell the american people that Hillary is under investigation?   Or are you suggesting they did that to hurt Hillary, so that Trump could win the election, and then they'd try to get him impeached with Russia accusations?   So, teh plan was to help Trump win and then complain about it?  lol  Come on. I think he did that to try and cover what went on since they assumed Hillary would win. Then all hell broke lose when Trump won.

I'm suggesting that they did that so that they can find her innocent, right before the election, so that the problem goes away 'after she won the election'.  I think they were so arrogant to think that Hillary was going to win anyway.  The Russian accusations were one, lessen the Trump popularity, and two a backup plan to get rid of Trump had he managed to win the election.

They had already closed the investigation. Because they found nothing. There is no way to spin it so that Comey announcing the reopening when he did was beneficial to Hillary.
