Just so we know the rules, this is the definition of Alcohol Use Disorder (the clinical term for alcoholism):

Bunny probably wins, though there are many others who are in the club - Jerryskids, BLS, etc.

I have 2-3 beers every weeknight and 5-6 every Friday / Saturday. I probably meet 2 of the 11 criteria here but I'm sort of doubting this diagnosis.

But I follow it with a fifth of vodka.

Oh and my beer is a whopping 11.9 % apv. :ninja: It's a big boy beer.

I didn't make the definitions. They are made by a panel of addiction experts, derived in part from the risk of complications of habitual alcohol use. :dunno:

I figured many of you didn't know what was considered excessive alcohol use; it isn't based on what's "cool" or convenient. And societal acceptance doesn't equate to healthy behavior.

I'm always amazed at the shear volume of liquid alcoholics consume. I know beer makes you piss, but how many non-alcoholic beverages do you drink daily?

It'd be a lot cooler if it did.

Those lists are jacked up. They're equivalent to "If you have to ask if you have a problem with alcohol..."

Booze is not good for you. No shiit. So, even having one a day is frowned upon. So is diet soda. And these days, so is your tap water, air, etc.

Pretty sure they will come out with a study in a few weeks that says drinking is healthy

I meet close to all of Pens list. Most just halfway

Don't need dink when I get up. Have NEVER had a drink during lunch or business hours. Have never needed it to interact with others. I've pissed off potential clients for ordering ice tea and not drinking whilst they got hammered.

I shake sometimes. I've removed myself after hours sometimes. I've come home and forget. I've bought hundreds of dollars of rounds and have no clue how it happened.

I have fun.

Drank is my fun. If I pass tomorrow, so, be it. No one can take away the decades of fun I have enjoyed.

Yes we'll all I can tell you is I don't consider myself a problem drinker. I rarely get drunk, my drinking doesn't interfere with my work or family, I get regular exercise etc. :dunno:

Not accurate. Alcohol in moderation is fine, maybe even a bit healthy. Problem is, people have no idea what constitutes moderation.

And there are many healthy things to eat and drink. Stop being such a drama queen.

You're right at the cut-off for AUD. So the likelihood that it will cause you problems is far lower than Bunny and Shots, but still greater than someone who drinks less. But just like someone with mild high blood pressure or diabetes, you won't necessarily experience the ill-effects until years down the road. If you derive more benefit from your alcohol consumption than the risks, have at it. Just don't be surprised if you develop one of the many diseases associated with drinking excessively.

Hopefully you'll pass quickly and painlessly. But it's likely you'll suffer more than your share, as will the people who care about you. Cirrhosis sucks, for example. I guess it's all about the journey, not the destination though.

I know a guy who has hepatitis c and is a boozer and was hooked on the oxy for a few years. He's 51, when is he gonna kick?

How the Fock did I make this list? I'd say in the average week I have maybe 2 drinks. Even last year, these guys drink more in a day than I did in a week.

The whole "at least I've enjoyed life" while drunk line may be true, until it isn't. Living with multiple health problems stinks. We'll all die of something, of course, but abusing your body for decades usually has consequences, and they ain't necessarily quick and painless.

Average life expectancy is in the 70's. He'll be lucky to make it to 60, and I bet his quality of life is sh!tty already.

So you're drinking 1.5-2 gallons of fluid a day? Ever had your sodium checked?

Yeah, I guess that's the thing. People with addictions often have sh!tty lives anyway, and lack the insight to see how much substance abuse fuels the fire. Then they get to a point where there is little use putting on the brakes.

And right on cue there's a story on CNN right now it says that even moderate drinking can alter your brain and make you more subject to Alzheimer's and other problems..

I am the same except the past few weeks I cannot drink that much on the weekend, been too tired with a newborn. I also switched to low alcohol beers, especial modela is 4.4, Guinness is 4.2, and two local beers karbach love street is 4.9 and shinerbock is 4.4.

The only reason I could think of cutting back is for health, most of the risk increases to disease start at 3 or more drinks per night. I try to keep my average at 2.9 :D

That was the maybe part - cardiovascular risk may go down with modest alcohol consumption, especially red wine. Alzheimer <> CV disease.

On the plus side, dying early means less saving for retirement. At least if you ignore your medical expenses.

Since death is inevitable, might as well enjoy the extra beer daily. I mean, what kind of sissy drinks less than two beers a day?
