TV shows about your Profession?

Recommended Posts

No dramas about civil engineers. Plenty of Discovery shows though. Lots of time compression compared to real life projects.

Don't know of any shows about firework sales but I can attest to the fact that some of the characters I see would make for one helluva sitcom.

It wasn't a TV show, it's Pink Floyd who came up with the most accurate description of the Chinese Education system

My brother is a civil engineer, he works on some big projects. He's finishing up at Mercedes Benz stadium in Atlanta now.

Mechanic shows?

Yea.

Restoration Garage is prolly my favorite mainly because of the quality of work they do.

I also like Fast n' Loud, Counting Cars, Fantom Works and Wheeler Dealers.

Wheeler Dealers is the most relateable to my daily life.

It was a joke, and I didn't say anything bad about his profession. And who gives a flying Fock what a bunch of anonymous middle aged dudes think anyhow?

For Christ's sake, Sux has posted videos lighting fireworks off his head, so he isn't exactly trying to portray a glamorous existence. Sux, please let me know if you found my post offensive.

You are likely projecting insecurity about your own, presumably sh!tty job. The same reason you assume everyone must be lying if their experiences don't align with your worldview.

I found it very offensive.

We prefer to be called grease monkeys

Oh hell yea. I'm thinking it's what started the whole car reality shows.

Not related to what I do, but did you ever watch the real Top Gear? (by real, I mean the euro version)

Gut busting funny on occasion (in a good way). LOVED that show

The Wire was spot on with the Compstat and the numbers game. The rest of it was let's say hyped up. Still a great show. Hill Street Blues is still the best depection of inner city policing. Old timers like Barney Miller. Everything else is garbage.

How about The Transporter? I bet thats really similar to your current badass chauffeur gig.

I've seen snippets when people posted links to a video on You Tube. I know it's a great show but haven't really watched it. Didn't the original host get fired a year or two ago?

Ha. My retirement gig is better than your "writing" gig. I recall someone saying you had a blog once? Must have been great. About as good as your "official" movie thread no one read. Lol.

If they ever make a show about commodities traders it will have to be on cable, simply for the language involved on the trade floor.

I don't think you are like him. The sharp part okay but he is boarder line psychotic, does not follow hospital or medical protocol at all, routinely violates the law and is a condescending pr!ck with a god complex that believes he is superior to everyone on the planet.

Yep, I thought it was kinda an insult. :(

I will give credit to ER, aside from some of the over dramatic stuff they were decently realistic.

I don't know, those ED docs did stuff like CT surgery IIRC. Kind like you and Wiff said. Also, most of the staff was way more attractive than any hospital I've worked.

Psych is the only good detective show, cause its funny

as far as mine, there haven't been many Casino shows, but Las Vegas was horrendous

Take that back! Vanessa Marcil was reason enough to watch that show religiously.

I think one could make a very funny sitcom about expat teachers. Have parts like the office, in some sh!tty chink school, and the rest is shenanigans at bars and such.

I've actually thought this based on your stories here. MDC has written stuff and I'm a pretty good editor. We should do this.

It would have worked ten years ago. Now it would be too sexist and culturally insensitive.

Not to mention there's already a handful of stories about misbehaving teachers in Crappy Schools.

But hey, don't let that stop you. No no no! This one's in China! Oh great, so half the supporting characters we won't understand? Let's go and workshop that idea.

Yeah, let's cast Chinese nationals who don't speak Engrish for major roles.

There will never be a tv show about what I do for a living. I would not watch it if there was.

Spartacus was a great flick as was Gladiator.
