And a bonus that sadly just missed out of the 90's here is one of my favorite live performances of all time

I had never heard that they did this...looked up the album on wiki.

 

The album has garnered a reputation as one of the worst music releases of all time. Q magazine editors ranked it number one in their 2006 list, "The 50 Worst Albums Ever!"^[2] In 2014, Brian Boyd of The Irish Times said that the LP is "accurately known as 'the single worst album in the history of recorded music'

The most interesting thing about the Thank You album and its many bad reviews, was that many of the original artists who had their songs covered actually liked the versions that Duran Duran had recorded. On Duran's cover of "Lay Lady Lay" Bob Dylan said, "It's the best yet. It beats mine by a country mile". And Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page described Duran Duran's version of "Thank You" as "exceptional". Lou Reed also joined in the praise, by saying that Duran Duran's version of "Perfect Day" was, "The best cover ever completed of one of my own songs".

Looking back on the 90s, there were a few watershed moments. The OJ trial, Monica Lewinsky... and the final episode of Seinfeld. Everyone attended a party for that final episode. They chose this song to end the series, and it is still played at HS proms and graduations.

Awesome. Like many 90s bands, I never really listened to them when they were popular.

 

I discovered them thru a dvd guitar tutorial in about 2003-4ish.

 

There were 3 songs on it. An acoustic version of Shine was one of them. (Ill be drafting another if it gets back to me).

 

It was the first time I was introduced to dropped d tuning, which was a staple of some much heavier bands

 

I had just started dating this girl (10 yrs my junior) who would become my wife and she heard me trying to learn the song. She said, hey, I know that song. Thats Collective Soul. Theyre coming to the House of Blues. Lets get tickets.

 

We saw them there, and sadly again years later at a County Fair. They still sounded great though.

The rhythm is simple and the song is nearly devoid of any melody. On paper, it looks like it should all add up to a big fat zero. But somehow, it just rocks instead.
