Dallas Cowboys 2018 & Beyond

Recommended Posts

The Cowboys have been so bad for so long.  I don't know why it still pisses me off when they suck like that, but it does.

This coaching staff and this team, coming off a dominant performance against the Rams, goes to Philly and sh!ts the bed when they have the chance to win the division against an  average team that's missing so many key players.

Dak can't make a throw.  When he does, the receivers can't catch.  (Cooper isn't right.  He says he's not hurt, but he's not running like he used to.)

The play calling is baffling.  They can't seem to get the ball into the hands of Zeke and Jarwin in space where they excel.

The defense is just bad.  No real pash rush and 3rd string receivers running wild all over the place.  WTF?

Garrett - Gone

Dak - Gone

Start from scratch.  Again.

The best part was when they were 3rd and 1, with that line and Zeke.  So, they throw twice and turn it over on downs.

OMG - I was cracking up when this happened.

I would have walked down to field and fired Red and the coordinator. lol

Garrett is absolutely done.

I will probably contradict my past statements here but Dak is a starting caliber QB and somebody you can absolutely win with. His game has limits but Dallas could go through a decade of Quincy Carter types before finding his replacement. Or they could end up spending a 1st to draft a QB who is no better than Dak. They should lock him up.

Hindsight being 20/20, giving Zeke all that $ was a huge mistake.

There was no hindsight with Zeke.  90% of people thought it was foolish.  There are a few old schools left that may not get it yet but I think most understand that RB is maybe the most replaceable position and you shouldnt pay big dollars for them.

So how much do they pay Dak and Cooper?

I've  waffled on Dak this year, but I think I've finally settled on the fact that he just doesn't have it.  I've watched every game and he's been wildly inconsistent.  I know all qb's have bad days, but Dak was bad more often than not this year.  He's really only put up points and stats against bad teams.

The Cowboys aren't likely to find an answer in the draft next year, but locking Dak up with anything other than a franchise tag is a mistake.  They need a little bit of luck to land a diamond in the rough or maybe make a deal for someone like Bridgewater and hope he hits.

I like Cooper, but as I mentioned above, he ain't right.  They need to dig into that a little deeper to find out exactly what he needs to fix.

If I were the GM, and had to make a decision right now, I say let them both walk and start again.

My best guess, Cooper is gone. He's all but disappeared the 2nd half of the season... The fact he wasn't even on the field on that last 4th and 8 says volumes.

Dak will be here - mostly bcoz Jerry doesn't have any other options. And has too much tied up in Zeke and his line to just bring in a scrub kid. I think they Franchise Dak and ride it out as long as they can... Unless of course he's willing to accept $32m a year - then I think Jerry inks him.

Zeke - what a colossal mistake paying him is gonna be. I"m glad i was on the right side of 1) not drafting him that high and 2) of not wanting to extend him.

You’d know better than me. I’m pretty impressed with Dak the 3-4 times per year I see him play. With that OL the Cowboys are set up to win now. I’d fire Red and give it a go with better coaching. :dunno:

I've come full circle on Dak - you can win with him.

The problem is we're trying to make him something he's not, we're not maximizing his skill set.... Dak is NOT a pure pocket passer - never has been.

Dak can be good, very good - if:

* You have active, pass catching backs. Get the ball to Zeke/Pollard out of the backfield... Emmitt killed teams with simple 1, 2, releases.

* Get the ball out quick - short patterns. A West-Coast style offensive if you will.

* Get Dak on the move. Whether throwing on the run, or flat out pulling it and running himself.

What you saw yesterday is who he is.  Throwing behind receivers, over their heads or at their feet when they're open is par for the course.

Meanwhile, we're watching guys like Jimmy G come into his own even though he's been off a few games.  That's the kind of clutch play I'd like to see from a QB.

Regarding Dak... What do you Dallas homers think about his conviction/desire to get the hard yards or take a hit?  I haven't watched closely enough to know if he's a team leader in that regard.

Doesn't bother me any. Dak is built like a shiit brick house - he can take it.

What drives me crazy is that he's okay running into a LB fighting for a yard, scrambling out of the pocket - but won't pull it and go more on the Run/pass option.

The narrative is always they are talented and ready to win now with the Cowboys.

It is so overstated.  They still have a good line but it isnt the line it was a couple years ago.  Garrett is a problem.  But him out and someone else in probably doesnt make it an 11 win team.

Their talent is overrated.  Like always.  Because they are the Cowboys.

This.

Dak has gotten worse since his rookie season. The Cowboys need to focus on the running game. Period. Dak isn't going to win games for them but he will/has absolutely lost games for them with his bad decisions and poor throws.

60/40 run/pass is the recipe for success. With a substantial amount of that 40% being screen passes.

Better coaching probably gets them to 10 wins. They’re not a SB contender but they’re closer to that than .500.

As an Eagles fan though go ahead and let Dak walk. I loved the post Aikman / pre Romo years.

How bout dem COWBOYS!

I've seen some gutless, uninspired efforts in my time - but that game y-day may be the worst I've ever seen. Jeebus that was pathetic.

Philly was w/out half their team - and with the highest paid line in football, with your all world ($90m) RB, with your soon to be $35m QB - and you can't do better than 9 pts???

VAYA CON DIOS Mr. Garrett - your ticket has been officially punched.

I fully agree!

This team is beyond frustrating and the only thing that'll save it is quality coaching.

Thank you. It’s not over - the Eagles can lose to anyone this year. But I was so impressed with the game plan and effort on D in particular. They showed a lot of grit.

Game ended and my family broke into a “Dallas Sucks!” chant. I was so proud to see my little boy join in. 😢

Yeah, as much as it pains me, I'm now hoping my titans don't pay Henry after this year. Love the player. Would hate to see him leave. But huge money at RB is just a cap killer.
