Greatest Lyrics in Rock n Roll

Recommended Posts

I feel like we did this recently, because I remember typing:

”If you don’t expect too much from me, you might not be let down.”

Sitting on a park bench
Eyeing little girls with bad intent
Snot's running down his nose
Greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes

Maybe because I live in the south but this Sturgill Simpson song / lyrics always makes me laugh.  Honestly, this song should be the anthem for all of the Geek of the Year winners here at fftoday dot com.

Quote

Well, they call me King Turd up here on Shit Mountain
If you want it you can have the crown

Greatest Indie Rock love song ever

Quote

Standing at the punch table, swallowing punch
Can't pay attention to the sound of anyone
A little more stupid, a little more scared
Every minute, more unprepared

I made a mistake in my life today
Everything I love gets lost in the drawers
I want to start over, I want to be winning
Way out of sync from the beginning

I wanna hurry home to you
Put on a slow, dumb show for you and crack you up
So you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
God, I'm very, very frightened, I'll overdo it

Looking for somewhere to stand and stay
I leaned on the wall and the wall leaned away
Can I get a minute of not being nervous
And not thinking of my d!ck?

My leg is sparkles, my leg is pins
I better get my together, better gather my shit in
You could drive a car through my head in five minutes
From one side of it to the other

I wanna hurry home to you
Put on a slow, dumb show for you and crack you up
So you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
God, I'm very, very frightened, I'll overdo it

You know I dreamed about you
For twenty-nine years before I saw you
You know I dreamed about you
I missed you for, for twenty-nine years

You know I dreamed about you
For twenty-nine years before I saw you
You know I dreamed about you
I missed you for, for twenty-nine years

Old country song, but I always like the lyric:

"Well I'm the seventh out of seven sons.  My papa was a pistol, I'm a son of a gun."

ah, the lovers as they run through the night
(Leaving nothing) leaving nothing but to choose off and fight
And tear at the world with all their might
While the ships bearing their dreams
Sail out of sight

I was going to post that part too, but I didn't want to derail this thread. I think both lines are good. It's like that in life, you can't wait to find a job or a new job but then you become miserable...or at least some of us do.

Sun streaking cold
An old man wandering lonely
Taking time the only way he knows
Leg hurting bad as he bends to pick a dog-end
He goes down to the bog
And warms his feet

Yes. I missed it.

I looked up what I was remembering:

"I told her she was awright
But I couldn't come in
(actually, I was very busy then)"

Lydia, oh! Lydia, say have you met Lydia
Oh! Lydia, the tattooed lady
She has eyes that folks adore so
And a torso even more so
Lydia, oh! Lydia, that "Encyclopedia"
Oh! Lydia, the Queen of tattoo
On her back is the Battle of Waterloo
Beside it the Wreck of the Hesperus too
And proudly above the waves
The Red, White and Blue
You can learn a lot from Lydia

She can give you a view of the world
In tattoo if you step up and tell her where
For a dime you can see Kankakee or Paree
Or Washington crossing the Delaware

I will take another blind shot. Groucho Marks "Lydia the Tattooed Lady"?

That is "Red Shoes" by Elvis Costello. I used to play that song.

Yep. At the Circus. As a kid, for some reason one station always played 3 Marx Brothers movies, one after another, starting at midnight on news years day. Year after year. It was my favorite part of new years when I was like 10 or so.

I tripped on how good Chico was on piano and Harpo was on the harp.
