The NFL announced Germany will host a regular-season game each of the next four seasons.

Munich and Frankfurt will each host a pair of games, as the league continues to expand internationally. Azteca Stadium in Mexico City will also again host a game, likely in November.

Send them Jacksonville, Houston, NY Giants, and Seattle if they happen to play each other. Don't they always send the garbage teams over there?

I don't know why they can't be evening games local time so we don't have to get up at like 6am on Sunday morning to watch them.

Bears should be on that list.

I am surprised they didnt do this sooner.  I'd argue these are better markets for the NFL than London.

when the World league played, these places outdrew London for fans by a wide margin.  Its about time they got to host a game or two.

If the bears had a first round pick, it would be number 7. They can go too.

I'm not surprised by this.  In fact, I expected it.  The Glazers own Manchester United and are tying to get their name all over Europe.  That's why they kept wanting to play in London.

It's his misuse of reason that makes him impossible to converse with.  I have never encountered a person I simply had to ignore for being willfully obtuse before.

Bob Kraft will be all over this opportunity for the Patriots to be one of the first teams to play in Germany. I'm sure that Belichick will be excited about the prospect!

it is likely an attendance thing.  I suspect that this is the time they are most likely to be able to fill the stadium.

like it or not, this is important to the NFL.   if the TV crews are there and there are no fans, it becomes an embarrassment.

Din't know Germany had a 6pm curfew.

I hadn't really considered that attendance might be important to the NFL.

This site is just a wealth of insights.

The NFL should send bad teams to Europe and give them an extra 3rd or 4th round draft pick to compensate. Then maybe it will help them get better.

Or something like that. The good teams should stay at home and entertain the US. in our time zones. Watching bad teams like the giants play Jacksonville is not entertaining. I would rather those teams play at a time that most people in this country don't want to watch games.

I would think a huge Bears fan like you would want to watch them in your time zone. Although they certainly could use the extra draft pick…

Bears beat the giants 3 of the last 3 years.

Move on.

You keep bringing up bad teams, but mysteriously keep leaving out Da Bears. You know that team that hasn’t done anything since 1985. Just don’t want you to feel left out. Under your silly plan of only bad teams playing overseas Da Bears would be right up there with Jacksonville and Houston. HTH..

Thanks for this year’s top ten draft pick! I am a huge fan of Da Bears ineptitude. Hopefully you get to experience a title at least once before you’re 80….

Congrats! How many titles did those victories bring your team? Think it’s zero but I have to check my notes… Take this past season. You beat the Giants but still finished with the 7th worst record in the NFL. At least you have the 7th pick in the draft to help rebuild, (checks notes), my bad apparently DaBears don’t have any pick in the 1st round. Seems they traded it for another bust at QB. Back to your original point, Bears-Jacksonville sounds like a winner!

Have fun with another bust like toney and daniel jones.

You keep putting down a team that beat the giants 3 times in the last 3 years and you keep pushing the matter.

Odd.

Not at all. You repeatedly bring up bad teams as the only potential games for overseas play. Yet you seem to never mention one of the top candidates, Da Bears… I’d say it’s odd except it’s not. Your a delusional homer like most Bears fans. Anyway Seafoam it’s always a pleasure “debating”with such a formidable adversary…

He acts like beating the Giants the last three years is some kind of dig. Get in line. I bearly noticed. Until this year, of course.

No teams should lose home games.  Not even a bad team like the Bears or the gisnts.

If teams had to be sent that should definitely be a point of interest, but teams want to go.  They volunteer.

I think initially this is what was done, but my understanding is the NFL has made it so the games overseas are more profitable than the typical home game.

I dont know the details, but here is my take:

normally a game is broadcast in two local markets (the two teams that are playing)   in this case a third local market will get the broadcast.

that would be the market where the game is being played.

so If I were the NFL and I wanted to give incentive to teams to volunteer so we could grow the games, that third market where the game is broadcast, the revenues would be split between the two teams (likely with the NFL getting a small chunk)

in addition to this, teams playing overseas likely get a bump in merchandising revenue as well and the home team likely gets all the ticket revenue just like with a normal home game.

so I would guess that most teams probably stand to make a lot more money by moving your home game over to London (or wherever) so long as that stadium is full or close to it.

If I remember correctly, the money from the European games from a broadcasting perspective, goes into the global pot of money for the NFL to which is shared evenly.  The money that isn't spread equally is ticket sales (only 40% of the gross is split among the league, the other 60% goes to the home team), concessions get split between the home team and stadium ownership, and corporate sponsorship with the home team.  So, small market teams like Jacksonville, Tampa, and Buffalo would likely want to play there because they could generate a lot more revenue from the ticket sales than they can from home games.  I believe from 2013 to 2016 (I read an article on this), the Jaguars played 4 games in London and made 25% of the their ticket income over that period of time.  Pretty sad that they played 28 games in Jacksonville and only made 3x more money from ticket sales than they did in 4 games in London.  Keep in mind that average ticket price in London was around $130 during that time period while only $60 in Jacksonville.

there is that too.   normally your season ticket holders pay a lower price per ticket.  so in theory up to 50 or 60% of the tickets in a stadium are season ticket holders.

in London, there is no discounted tickets.  so the difference in revenue there should also be substantial.  especially if they are filling the stadium.
