Something funny I do remember when having this talk with my son last year was he actually made the circle with his index finger and thumb (the okay sign) and poked and pulled his other index finger in and out of the hole and asked, like this right.  I nodded my head yes trying not to laugh.

I haven't done this yet but probably should. My eldest daughter is in eight grade and my homeschooling son is in seventh.

My daughter's school is buying time for me. She's finishing up her second year going to a boarding school downtown. The boys and girls don't date and are separated by a strict schoolmarm faculty, that is vigilant and utterly intolerant of any kinoodling. I don't know what to make of it. In the end, I think they're probably doing parents a favor by keeping the kids on the straight and narrow and I should be more grateful for the Chinese cultural and the promotion of traditional gender roles. Were it up to me, if we were in the US, I wouldn't enforce these rules myself though.

The potential distractions could be enormous. She's the "school flower," which essentially means she's the most popular girl in school and leader/center of the cool girl clique for 8th graders. In a different environment, who knows what issues I'd be dealing with. Part of me, likely the majority of where my mind is, thinks I'm better off accepting their discretions and should be happy with it.
