Manti Te’O Documentary (Spoilers)

Recommended Posts

Interesting stuff.

But the one thing that stood out to me was how he picked ND.  He said he went to the athletic office and some dude said “I always thought you’d go to Notre Dame” and he thought that was a sign from God?  Wtf?  Guess that was evidence how gullible he was…

Dude was extremely gullible and all because of his faith.  I think religion and faith can be important but, boy, can it be really stupid as well.

How bad did you want to smack the person who catfished him?  What a terrible, sick person.

Just an awful human being. The things he was doing seemed intentional to just mess with Teo. I think the documentary let him off too easy.

Watched this last night. I didn't know he was Mormon. I also saw Under the Banner of Heaven recently, which is a murder mystery set around Mormonism. All religions are this to me, gullible, but Manti looking for ways to follow Heavenly Father adds up. For the documentary, they fell way short in a number of areas, ie with the O'meara girl, it just seemed like there was more there and they didn't touch it. Couldn't they find an actual girlfriend of some kind from ND? It was interesting how the press covered the "possible" gay angle, it was just 2013.

I think the doc was trying to show that supposedly they weren’t just messing with Te’O, the profile was his way of expressing their gender identity and they did actually care about (love?) Te’O.

Of course faking then un-faking your own death, getting so many others including toddlers apparently involved in the scheme still makes them a POS.

It’s “Trans”. They are a protected species.

Some people have faith, that dude was brainwashed.  Easy pickings for anyone who wanted take advantage.

What happened to the days when coeds threw real live poosay at star football players?

I'm sure that happened but I'm guessing he let his religion make all his decisions for him.  Dude ruined his life on his faith.

that's what I was going to post. I have no doubt other Notre Dame players were getting tons of poosay and no doubt Manti had plenty of opportunities. My guess would be his faith keeps him from being that kind of person and once he was in this fake relationship, that was that.

The only way a young, star athlete could wind up in a long distance, internet and phone relationship without ever meeting the other person is letting religion control their life. Even the dumbest dude in the world is not going to remain in a relationship when he continually asks to see his girlfriend over breaks and she always has an excuse. Maybe you could rationalize it once or twice before you think, "okay she's cheating on me"... but that's assuming you already met her in the first place

At least one other person already mentioned it but we find out all we need to know about Manti at the start of the show, when he chooses Notre Dame because a coach or athletic director or whoever brought it up.... and that was a sign from god

I just watched it.  Man did that poor guy get railroaded - by everyone.  Ruined his life.  Yet he ends by saying he forgives Ronaiah.  Personally I think that lunatic should burn in hell.  We should have realized back then how mentally disturbed trannies are.  The whole documentary all Ronaiah thought about and lamented about was the negative impact on Ronaiah’s life.  Never apologized or showed remorse for what he did to Manti.
