The one that tried to strike based on poor working conditions but was forced to go back?

“I am very interested in getting to know the residents of East Palestine, hearing from them about how they’ve been impacted and communicating with them about the steps that we’re taking,” Buttigieg said on a Monday call, adding that he had referred to past common practices of transportation secretaries by deferring first to the National Safety Transportation Board after a major disaster like the derailment. “But yes, when the time is right, I do plan to visit East Palestine. I don’t have a date for you right now.”

Meh.  Don't really feel much sympathy for a  county/area that votes so rigidly against their best interests in the manner that this area of OH does.  Hopefully, some people will come to the realization that the Republican Party isn't looking out for their best interests.....but I won't hold my breath*. I am looking forward to them NOT taking any Federal money and pulling themselves up by their bootstraps though.

* Something these clowns should probably be doing.

How come none of you liberals called this out?

Didn't realize a train carrying vinyl chloride derailed in Paulsboro, NJ in 2012 and the town was evacuated for 3 weeks.  I grew up about 15 miles from there.   But I wouldn't rule out that potential health issues are instead from the oil refinery that's located there...

It’s very sad that these people continue to worship Trump. Of course they have the right to do so. But he is the man most responsible for their suffering. If he hadn’t removed Obama’s train regulations this calamity likely would never have happened.

Oh, they came out with the cause of the derailment already? I figured that investigation would take some time. What did the investigators say?

I’m putting two and two together. Do you think that’s unreasonable? The specific regulations that Trump removed involved trains transporting hazardous materials.

So Biden has every opportunity to overturn that. Just like he did with every other trump policy. And he didn’t.

I agree that he is responsible as well. (Though in point of fact, creating regulations is much more difficult than removing them.)

But that doesn’t remove Trump’s culpability.

Well, you presented it as fact, but it turns out it’s just your unbiased speculation.

Constant partisan bs. When able blame someone else. Biden never takes responsibility for anything. So why should his supporters

Asked if ECP brakes would have made a difference in East Palestine, Ditmeyer said: "There would not have been that huge pile up of cars coming from the rear that piled and caused ruptures and fires. So, yes, there is a very high likelihood that there would be significantly less damage."

Tim,

I know being ignorant is your claim to fame, and I'll keep calling you out for it, but instead of just listening to soundbites you might want to do some actual, you know, research in to issues, lest I keep roasting you over and over.  On this issue, here is an excerpt from the full article that I am also linking.  I will bold the most important part.  Oh, and linking to sources that form your opinions might also help, but linking to Rachael Maddow's podcast might not so never mind that one.

In an email, an NTSB spokesperson told VERIFY the train involved in the Ohio derailment was not equipped with ECP brakes. On Feb. 16, NTSB chair Jennifer Homendy addressed misinformation spreading about the derailment on Twitter.

Homendy directly acknowledged that the ECP brake rule would not have prevented the crash if implemented because the train that derailed in East Palestine was a mixed freight train that contained only three placarded Class 3 flammable liquids cars. Homendy said the ECP braking rule would have applied only to high-hazard flammable trains.

This means even if the rule had gone into effect, this train wouldn't have had ECP brakes,” Homendy said.

Stop with the ECP brake nonsense.  There is video of the train with the broken axel sparking like the car was on fire a full 20 miles ahead of where it finally derailed.

To the idiot's credit that you quoted he probably didn't know that at the time he said it though.

Since most people don't want to have normal conversation, I did my own research.  Some good articles here:

https://www.levernews.com/rail-companies-blocked-safety-rules-before-ohio-derailment/

https://www.levernews.com/there-will-be-more-derailments/

TL/DR: corporate greed is probably the biggest factor here.

Obama tried putting in a rule that required trains carrying hazardous materials to install better brakes

However, due to corporate pressure what was covered was reduced and ultimately it would have exempted trains carrying this material anyway.

Trump then repealed the whole thing, and Biden/Buttigieg apparently have no plans to reinstate it.

Meanwhile, railroads spent almost $200 billion on stock buybacks and cut 30% of their workforce.

Crazy fact but apparently this train was 1.8 miles long.

Are you really at the point where you have to blame Biden because he didn't overturn the other guy's crappy policy?

At that point it's OK to say both administrations f-d up on this issue and most of these things are profit over people, not R/D.

Yup. If anyone thinks the government has the power in this situation they just don’t get it.

But along with the brakes, the other main issue with this crash is that these cars weren't properly identified as flammable which is the result of another admins bending to the indrustry so they can save money.

I could be wrong, but my understanding was that these cars weren't treated as toxic/flammable, hence not having the proper safety features - all to maximize profits.

Is it your contention that Trump dumped another Obama rule?  The only one I've heard mentioned is the brakes one.  If you've got a credible link to something else I'll research it just like I did this one.  You know, so I'm not ignorant like Tim and Gutterboy.  But not if you're just passing along farts in the wind like Tim does.

I can look as well.  I honestly can't remember who did what now.   I thought one did something to the way they classify toxic/flammable and let the industry have that one, and the other let them get away with being lax on the brakes.  Then Biden did nothing about either of those and actively battled the unions who were fighting for things that included said safety measures.

The sequence of events began a decade ago in the wake of a major uptick in derailments of trains carrying crude oil and hazardous chemicals, including a New Jersey train crash that leaked the same toxic chemical as in Ohio.

In response, the Obama administration in 2014 proposed improving safety regulations for trains carrying petroleum and other hazardous materials. However, after industry pressure, the final measure ended up narrowly focused on the transport of crude oil and exempting trains carrying many other combustible materials, including the chemical involved in this weekend’s disaster.

Then came 2017: After rail industry donors delivered more than $6 million to GOP campaigns, the Trump administration — backed by rail lobbyists and Senate Republicans — rescinded part of that rule aimed at making better braking systems widespread on the nation’s rails.

Specifically, regulators killed provisions requiring rail cars carrying hazardous flammable materials to be equipped with electronic braking systems to stop trains more quickly than conventional air brakes. Norfolk Southern had previously touted the new technology — known as Electronically Controlled Pneumatic (ECP) brakes — for its “potential to reduce train stopping distances by as much as 60 percent over conventional air brake systems.”

https://www.levernews.com/rail-companies-blocked-safety-rules-before-ohio-derailment/

Obama went half way, and trump instead of completing the job, took the money and bent the knee to corp greed.
