I do not think it has anything to do with liberalism. I think this is the long term consequences of Regan gutting mental health reform in the 80s and the cascading effects we still see to this day in the way mental health is treated.

That started under Kennedy.  Thorazine and Haldol were supposed to end the need for asylums.

So that goes back to my original questions, why does the US have such a greater underlying problem of murder more than most other developed countries?

A few things.  One, I didn't say there would be an equal number of murders, I said that the non-gun murders would go up.  While guns are only a tool, they are a very efficient tool.  They also have the benefit of somewhat removing the killer from the act, vs. say a stabbing, where you need to be up close, look the person in the eye, and feel the knife penetrate flesh and tissue.  Only a special kinda psycho would enjoy that, not your typical loner school shooter type.  Stuff like bombs, fires, etc... those would go up bigly.  I predict that one of them would cause a lot of damage, and that method would become the new "in" way of mass killings.  Sad to say.

That being said, the US is unique in the expectation of its people in achieving happiness, of getting our way.  We are by far the most hedonistic society on earth.  Nordic countries often measure as the happiest, but when those results are analyzed, they find that those people have fairly low/middle expectations.  They don't expect to be rich or powerful, they are just happy with a small place to live and food to eat.  Places like the UK and Australia/New Zealand have far fewer freedoms -- the UK arrests people for wrongthink these days, and Australia/NZ were "open air prisons" during Covid.

So combine our unrealistic expectations of having it all, and having it now, of always being happy, which social media bombards people with, with a skyrocketing inability to cope with adversity particularly in our younger generation, and you have a volatile combination.

That's a long way of saying that it's a lot more complex than getting rid of the gunz.  It's tied to the very fabric of our current system. (By "system" I mean all of the inputs and outputs and feedback loops, not the government etc.)

ETA:  Our approach to mental health, or lack thereof, is an important part of that system.  The US approach can be summed up as "there's a pill for that."  If help is sought at all.  I don't know the exact answer, but it is clearly a problem that needs addressing.

So then you would agree that the proliferation of guns increases the rate of murder, correct?

Vs. a scenario with zero guns in the populace, yes, I believe that.

OK, that's all I was saying, and it was in reply to the statement "It's the people, not the guns".  Clearly it's both.  The extent that each matters is the argument.

In a perfect word where everyone loves each other and there are no accidents, guns won't kill anyone.

In a society where everyone hates each other but there are no guns, the murder rate will be lower than if everyone had a gun.

Neither of those are true, and we lie somewhere in between.  There is no magic answer, and I believe we must tackle this from all directions, including gun control.

I mostly agree with this, as long as "gun control" disproportionately targets people who do bad things with guns.

IMO, laws that blanket make it harder for the general populace to obtain guns do not fit this description.  Rather, they are the opposite, as they would target law-abiding citizens who obey the law.

It’s when they stop taking them that the problems arise. Asking mentally ill people to care for their mental health is not a sound solution.

Of course we shouldn't ask people to care for themselves.  Hell there aren't even enough competent medical professionals around to care or everyone.

You guys can talk about what should or shouldn't happen, but the results will never change.  The method may, but not the results.  This country's population is the problem, period.  As a country, people are too lazy, spoiled, and entitled and no laws restricting guns, immigration, healthcare, etc., will ever change that.  All these topics are simply hot buttons to keep people talking about nonsense while the politicians and the uber-wealthy live in their gated community 7-figure homes, far away from us.

It wasn’t being hidden.  There were active lawsuits that would have decided whether it would be released.  Which is why whistleblower protection shouldn’t apply since they were not blowing the whistle on anything illegal.

Is that how they classify it? I can't find any link to confirm that.

And I am not sure this qualifies as a hate crime as she was a former employee of the school and may have had some vendetta against the people who ran it.

Do you have a link to the FBI and DOJ saying that? I couldn't find that with a Google search.

And wasn't it her former employer who had fired her? If so that would qualify as workplace related violence.

Looks like a website called “freedompress.com” is claiming this based on the lack of an announcement at all.

I told you it’s not. Show me it is. Funny I could find it first look in the google. Which tells me you’re lying that you couldn’t find it. Whatever. You’re better off with your ridiculous “workplace violence” bullshit than trying to sew doubt.

Squdly lives in his own bubble.  In the face of all facts, science  logic and truth he will tow the party line 100% of the time, EVERY time.  And when caught in his pretzel logic, he'll try to change the subject or move the goal posts to draw attention away from how absurd and absolutely ridiculous his position is.

It's a constant game of wack-a-zealot with him.  He will NEVER believe the truth - only what his party tells him.  We're all better off never responding to him.  Don't feed the zealots.
