"The efficiency standard would effectively outlaw non-condensing furnaces and condensing alternatives would be the only ones available," Lieberman said. "Those are more efficient, but they cost more. And installation costs could be a big problem for some houses that are not compatible with condensing furnaces."

The inserts are cool, never had one of those.

I bought thing one back in 2011 to heat 4500 sq ft.  It is a boss, will cook the house depending on the wood selection. The only downside is that it is only really happy when burning at a sprint, so you cannot control it through vents and such, you have to use wood selection. And it did not qualify for the efficiency credit like a quadrafire would.

Incorporated into the duct work, interesting.

Mine has a fan, and cat and vents, so I can control the temp and burn rate.  When it's cranked I can get it to 1200 degrees, and the family room pushes 80.  If I run it slow with large logs, I can get 8 hour burns.
