Must lose one. Wallet or Phone

Recommended Posts

Ok, ok, some will say, "I don't carry a wallet" and then the thread will go off on tangent about men use wallets and pansies use money clips or some other dumb stuff.

But,

You must lose one and need to have it replaced.  Would you rather lose your cell phone or "wallet" with cards, Id's and $100 cash.

Which do you choose to lose?

I'd rather lose my phone but it's such a pain in the ass replacing credit cards and license.  My Phone is backed up so when I get a new one it will have everything I need on it again.

Wallet, way cheaper than phones which cost like $1000 now

Phone. I fear my wallet as it would take days to replace it.

Phone. The amount of trouble I have to go through to get a new id, replace cards, set up new auto payments etc...

My phone is password locked so I just need to remote wipe and get a new phone or use one of my many old ones

  • Thanks 1

For me the answer is wallet, and it's simply a money question.  I don't have phone insurance, so spending $500-$1000 on a new phone would suck, with a wallet it's only a $100 loss.

Replacing drivers license would be the biggest annoyance.  Credit cards are easy to replace, no cost.  Nothing else valuable in wallet.

Can you keep the same numbers on CC's when lost.  I think setting up auto drafts, again, would be a major PITA.

Replacing Drivers License is easy but don't like the $ 20 some dollar fee. Found the one I lost a week after I got a replacement one:wall:

This is dumb. losing a phone is a piece of cake. It is locked and backed up. Takes no work at all to replace, just money. I have at least 3 CCs and 2 different banks ATM cards and pictures of my kid I dont want to lose.

iPhone > android

Never lost my wallet, lost and dropped phones in the ocean

Opposite. Never lost a phone, dropped  and lost a wallet in water skiing once.

You still carry around pictures of your kid in your wallet?

also never lost a wallet, never lost a phone.  I'm responsible.

You're most likely going to upgrade your phone anyway so you wouldn't be out any money, unless you're one of those people who hold onto a phone until it dies of old age.  I usually upgrade to the new iPhone every 3 years and I do the payment plan.

I have my cards loaded onto my phone. The other day I looked at my wallet and wondered what I even need it for. I could just take my ID out of it and leave the rest at home. I used to be a George Costanza wallet guy, but over time it’s gotten smaller and smaller.

I think 3 states allow ID's on the phone now.

Not all stores take apple pay though. Close but not all

Don’t want to lose my wallet with the lucky condom ring on the outside.

Once in my early 20’s was doing laundry at laundromat and apparently dropped my wallet in the gutter and was going to AC the next morning and just returned from the bank - had $1,000 cash in it. Someone found it and returned it to me before I even realized it was missing.
She would not accept a tip/thank you gift.

It's not just about money. It is the time they take to replace as well.

Poor

I'd pay $10,000 to avoid a trip to the DMV.

Yeah right.  You buy your bedsheets at Costco and don't even have TSA pre check.

Besides, in NJ you can get a new license on line.

Phone. I don’t want to have to worry about getting pulled over or having to go to the city to enemy HQ to get a new ID.

I'd go to the DMV for 10K.  I just thought it was funny you're sweating $500-$1000 and would rather spend time replacing cards.

That was a quick BACKPEDAL

It takes 2 mins to go to the AMEX app and click "Lost Card".

The original was an overstatement to drive home the point.  The second was trying to point that out and you still missed it.

I get it, $500 is a lot to some people.

This is the right answer for me.

Losing a wallet would be a nightmare. Phone you just have to buy a new one which sucks but is way less hassle.

Yes we get it, you're so rich.

If $500 isn't anything to you, then venmo it to me right now.

Exactly.

And you missed the point of the thread.   Yes I can afford to buy a new phone, but I would rather spend the 15 mins or so to replace my lost credit cards.

What about your Pokémon cards? And all those medals you got playing Call of Duty? Is your Mario Kart license in your wallet too?
