It wasn't really crowdfunded in the way that stuff usually works. So you don't know what that means apparently.

The movie was funded the whole way through until it moved to Angel Studios and they wanted to work around promoting the film on their own so they grifted people into paying for it as an investment property. Basically they distributed the film and let everyone else take the risk,.

Tldr; the writer and director is a Mexican who wrote the movie to raise awareness of the problem he saw in the news, and it was backed by a bunch of Mexicans.  Then he met Ballard who worked in this space, and tweaked the movie to be about Ballard.  Then lost distribution, only to go with Angel studios, then it got swept into Qanon, and the original dude hates all of it for what it turned into.

Agree that they should be encouraging people to donate to charities rather than buy more movie tickets.

But I believe there was actual crowdfunding for the production of the movie as well.  That said, these idiots think anyone who donates during a crowdfunding campaign gets their name in the credits?  If this dude did (not sure I’ve seen confirmation other than his Facebook post), he donated something significant.
