Going to rap show Friday on south side of Chicago

Recommended Posts

We're here vacationing, and the wife got us tickets to a show with the headliner Dirty Herds and some opening act Lupe Tabasco.

Could use some tips on best ways to get to and from this part of town. Any good nearby restaurants, bars?

I've never been to a rap show and know nothing about these acts.

Ts & Ps to your future widow.

Why do you say that? It's not like the mortality rate at rap shows is ahead of the decimal.

I might be thinking more about the mortality rates of rappers themselves vs attendees.  Let us know how the Lil <insert name with dollar signs here> show goes.

Saw Public Enemy w/ Bid Daddy Kane back 1991.  Nothing’s really changed in America since then, so you’ll be fine.

For white people too? I would bet the assault rate is ahead of the decimal.

I still enjoy 90's and some early 2000's rap. always will, grew up on it.

Rap live is absolutely terrible. Good luck.

I don't know what Post Malone is categorized as, I'd consider going to see him. A ton of great radio hits.

Good luck Buddy, it was nice knowing you.

I would say don't take the green line after dark. What station is nearest to the venue?

Probably Uber it.

Just got done with a three-hour walking pizza tour of Chicago. Great pizza and stories behind them. I'll be dead in a few hours, so might as well enjoy a last good meal!

It was a pretty great show. We took off during Dirty Heads and went to a ridiculous place called Untitled.

For all the negative hype about Chicago being such a dangerous place, there was nothing unsafe about tonight or our Chicago experience as a whole.

Parents brought kids to the show.

Yeah, yeah, Chicago has dangerous neighborhoods where people kill each other.

But like New York, it's a clean, vibrant place with a cool vibe and lots to see and do. And it's much more affordable than I thought it would be.

My wife and I want to attend a game at every MLB stadium in America. We managed to knock out Milwaukee while we were here, but the Cubs didn't have a home game, and rain knocked out a White Sox game.

But as we saw the forecast and realized the White Sox game was going to get rained out, we tried to find tickets to The Who's "Tommy the musical," but neither Seat Geek, Vivid Seats or any of those other places had tickets.

My wife called the theater and asked whether we could just show up and get tickets, and the dude said no. But he said some floor seats still were available through the theater's website. We looked up those, and they were front row and center for $130 apiece. No brainer.

What we didn't know is that this is a new version of the musical that they're fine tuning to get back to Broadway, and this focker was mind blowing.

The food, the arts, the music and everything we did here the past few days has been pretty great.

We're already planning our next trip here.

Chicago kicks ass and is full of things to see and do!

Ones who can't afford a tropical island vacation

I'd say this vacation was far more expensive than just sitting on a beach and drinking all day.

Day 1: Flew into Milwaukee, checked into hotel and went straight to the Brewers-Cubs game. We're planning to visit every MLB ballpark.

Day 2: Took the Amtrak to Chicago. Checked into a great hotel. Did the boat tour that covered Chicago architecture and history. We were going to the White Sox game, but there was a 100 percent chance of rain in the forecast. The musical of The Who's "Tommy" was playing, but the evening's show was sold out, on VividSeats, Seat Geek and everything else we looked at. I'd never seen that. We called the theater and asked whether just showing up would result in us getting in somehow, and they said nope. But the dude did say, "We have some floor seats still available through our own website ... " We looked it up. FRONT ROW. CENTER. Boom. We grabbed those tickets. Went to a fancy dinner across the street and then saw the show. It was focking incredible. This wasn't some post-Broadway touring group. This is a whole new adaptation that's being road tested en route to get back to Broadway. It was off the chain, so we got a chance to see something on the front end that's likely destined to be huge. Afterward, we hit a rooftop bar and had a blast.

Day 3: Hit the Chicago Institute of Arts, the nation's second largest museum of it's kind. I had no idea how many famous works of arts are in there, including "American Gothic." I got a pic of me right next to it looking all stern and stoic. Some of history's most famous works of art are in there. That night, we had some fine dining and then hit a small club to watch Little Moon, winner of the 5,000-entrant NPR Tiny Desk Concert series. They were great. Another rooftop bar after that.

Day 4: Did a bus tour, followed by a walking pizza tour. The pizza was off the chain, as was the history behind all that. Then we went to the rap show, which was awesome, followed by going to a restaurant bar called Untitled, where we had old fashioneds, a nice bottle of wine and some epic appetizer.

I'd rather do that than sit on a tropical beach.

You should get out of the nuclear bunker in your mom's basement and see the world. This could mark the beginning of your badly needed journey to better mental health. Perhaps you'll meet a woman who actually wants to be around you. That's a stretch, of course, but anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Just don't scare to death with all of your wacky guarantees and conspiracy theories.

I’m so glad I got to Chicago before it went to shitt. Had a great time at Wrigley and Rush and Division. Couldn’t drag me there now.

Chicago hasn't gone to chit. You're just parroting extreme-right catastrophizing. In fact, Chicago's safe areas have gotten safer. We walked all around downtown, even at night, and at no point did I feel any danger in the air. The concert venue we went to just north of what is considered the south side of Chicago, and even there I felt plenty safe.

The west and south areas of Chicago are rife with crime, drugs and poverty, and those conditions have grown worse, resulting in more crime and drugs.

You should actually read things and experience them for yourself instead of soaking up whatever your right-wing chatterboxes tell you. I'm looking forward to going back!
