DraftKings apologizes for Sept. 11-themed betting promotion

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. -- Sports betting company DraftKings apologized Monday after using the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks to entice people to bet on baseball and football games on the anniversary of the tragedy that killed nearly 3,000 people.

The Boston-based company offered users a 9/11-themed promotion that required three New York-based teams -- the Yankees, Mets and Jets -- to win their games Monday, the 22nd anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon and the downing of a passenger jet in a field in Pennsylvania.

After an outcry on social media from people offended by the promotion titled "Never Forget," DraftKings took it down and apologized.

I never fail to be amazed that ideas like this somehow get through entire committees and executives and nobody says, "is this really a good idea?"

Maybe they subscribe to the “no such thing as bad publicity” theory?

Probably. They used to spend a fock ton on advertising and couldn’t turn a profit.

I just joined DK about a week ago and they send you a text code everytime on your phone before you can get on. Not digging that.

You have 2A settings enabled, just turn it off

That must be a state law where you are. They send me an email every time I log in, but they don't require 2 factor to sign in.

FD uses 2 factor but usually  once every 10 days or more, DK sends you a text code every time you log in and also keeps asking you to down;ad their verify location thing every time even though I already downloaded it and install it. I only joined to get the $200 free bets and using two tonight, one on the Bills -2.5 and other on you guys Garret Wilson getting O 5.5 rec.

admittedly I am biased due to the fact DK restricted my account and made me jump through hoops to get it sorted out, then told me it couldn't be sorted out. (Ultimate issue was something stemming from when my PayPal was compromised). They send me constant e-mails trying to lure me back to using them even though they literally won't let me use my account . There was also a period where they did away entirely with their customer support chat feature and only respond via e-mail now and you could never talk to the same rep twice so you would repeat yourself over and over just to find out where a missing promotion was. Not sure if that got any better.

Fanduel runs a much smoother operation, especially their customer service.

FD  has horse racing and why it's my main one as well. Not really digging DK but like the free bets, Rivers is a good one and was on that for awhile before FD.

Tired of apologies all over after the fact. You fawked up, so own it. Don’t back fawking track after you are criticized by a bunch of nothings. Expecting for company’s who have lawyers, and everyone else, looking at what they put out. If it’s a mistake, eat it and move on to your next good project and learn from a bad one. Weakness is destroying this world.

Walter, this isn’t a First Amendment thing.

Which was my fawking previous post about the press being the fourth branch of government now. They abuse this power of freedom of the press and do not have to answer to fawking anyone. It’s a complete and total farce to be able to have that power to lie through mirrors and then hide behind them. There is no honest reporting anymore. And has been that way for decades. I fawking challenge anybody to debate ME on this. You will lose because you know it’s truth. Bring it.

Just because other people are yokels doesn't mean she's less of one. Plus she's the only vice president in the crowd. Looking for attention so she can yuck it up with them. This is the first time. She reminds me of that Warner Brothers cartoon character.beaky buzzard.

Yeah. You wouldn’t obsess if it were Trump that was laughing but checking his watch. Go away with your nonsense.

They must not be too sorry. I don't see any bonus bets in my account.

It tries that ###### with me sometimes too, but it doesn't really mean it...I just hit refresh and it takes me into my account.
