Aside from national security, what do you need from the government?

Recommended Posts

List it out.

Here's the whole of my list after national security:

1. Nothing.

What does your list include?

Currency, interstate commerce.  Federal highways are cool.  Free stuff to buy votes, of course

Most people that live in the northeast do. You and your Boy Scout troop gonna dig out the reservoirs  and install the pipes that bring NYC their water?? Then maintain and replace those pipes as need be?

How about determining if the water is even potable?  Is "MR. You've never heard of a well?!?" going to test the water regularly to make sure it's drinkable and not contaminated?

What a f@cking moron.  I haven't seen anyone self own like that since, well, the last time he posted.

I don’t get it, he’s Mr. NYC. I guess he thought they just got their water  from the Hudson River?

Yeah.  Why did the government waste all that money on the Hoover Dam? You could just go outside and catch rain water in a metal helmet.

This is actually a good thread.  Government is imperative in a civilized society.  The People elect representatives to go and meet and make laws (rules) that make common sense and everyone should follow.  Government also collects taxes from each individual to put in a collection pot to do things that a single person can’t do on their own.  1. A National Defense to defend the homeland,  2. Police, Fire, EMT to enforce laws and help the citizens  3. Roads, Bridges and like infrastructure for the masses to use. 4. Also a civilized society should indeed have safety nets for our old, sick poor and downtrodden.  5. A government should also see over land that is deemed “special”.  Think the Grand Canyon or Yosemite.

Properly run government is essential.  Problem is it’s run by humans, a little power begets more power and before you know it they’ve overstepped their bounds into most every part of your life. It overreaches and the sheeple just take it.

Great post. 100% agree.

I'm sure you'll disagree, but I'd throw at least a basic level of healthcare into that mix. Basically IMO the government is there to support things in which corporate profit margin is at odds with the public good. Healthcare, infrastructure, cops, clean air and water, preservation, and national defense. The bureaucracy required to do so should be kept lean.

Fok man I dunno. They ought to just pop a well in Death Valley and let it rip. Bring back Lake Manly with this unlimited supply of fresh clean water.

Do that in all desert areas. Boom climate change solved.

Who knew.

There is more than NYC in America.  25% of Americans rely on private wells or private water supply.

So you don’t know you need a permit, issued by the government, to dig a well? Just call the well guy and start digging?

Says the guy who thinks just "digging a well" is the answer.

You got owned so badly in here that you're reaching for something to distract from the fact that you are the dumbest POS in this forum.  Even Pimpadouche and worms think you're a f'n idiot.

Stay down and take the L on this one - you lost.  And bigly.

Of course I do.

Someone should tell all the suffering farmers, residents and Indians in the southwest to stop fighting over the Colorado river.  All they have to do is install wells according to you.  😂😂😂

So if there was no govt, then you couldn't get a permit, so you couldn't dig a well 😂

Tardcore logic.

What a retard.

He tried so hard to get some kind of "gotcha'" and all he could come up with was "Dig a well".

He inadvertently ended up putting the "gotcha" on himself.  That's what happens when you're as dumb as a box of rocks.

Basic healthcare falls under safety nets for old, sick and downtrodden.  100% support programs like or similar to Medicare and Medicaid.  But that’s it, and where I assume you and I diverged.  Most other services can be provided by the private (people) sector.  It’s actually the same for education for me.  The private sector would do a much better job at teaching our children.  I know that’s mind blowing because we’ve had public school forever but I believe that.  And government is really bad at financial management.  But anyway…..I digress.

Actually they do dig wells and use groundwater, but there is not an unlimited aquafier, just like rivers and reservoirs run dry as well.  Demand exceeds supply.
