He was pretty fragile when he made his last appearance.  I am glad IU kind of patched things up for his last years.  A bunch of limp-wristes leftist set him up and chased him out.

I love Knight. But it was time to go. He couldn’t adapt and that is part of life and being an adult.

That is for sure. But the same is true for John Wooden and Coach K, and by all accounts, they weren’t a$$holes. Knight was.

Knight also chose to campaign for Donald Trump, AFTER Trump’s racist and bigoted remarks against Mexican-Americans, blacks, women, and Muslims in 2016. Anyone who publicly campaigned for Donald Trump (and Knight was enthusiastic about it) deserves a whole lot of shame for that act alone.

Posts like this make it easy to agree with cdub's worldview. Tim, you're a focking piece of sh1t . If you can't enter a thread without bringing up Donald Trump or making it political, then maybe you should spend a little more time with your fat, drunk wife and leave our forum.

So you are not of a mind to extend a bit of grace to the recently deceased.

Dementia really took its toll on him the last few years.

Great coach and taught a lot of life lessons and made a lot of men.  He probably could not have coached the soft kids today with a transfer portals and the messed up NIL environment.

Rest in power.

He absolutely couldn’t. Incapable of adapting and compromise. It’s what got him canned in disgrace from IU. Sad ending there.

Many, many stories like this about him. Did many things without any fanfare or self promotion.

RIP Coach Knight

3x NCAA champion as a coach and 1x as a player at Ohio State playing alongside Hondo and Jerry Lucas.

Simply a phenomenal coach.

I agree the Trump reference was highly unnecessary, but I’d say the “focking piece of sh1t” is the guy attacking another poster’s family :dunno:

He wasn’t a terrible man. But he wasn’t a great guy either. At least not as a public figure. He may have been a wonderful guy personally and therefore I’m sorry for his family.

Cdub’s worldview is that the Jews are behind everything bad and the Holocaust never happened. If my truthful post about Knight makes that easier for you to believe, then I would suggest that you have designated the wrong piece of sh!t in this discussion, and should really look in the mirror.

He was definitely an assh0le.

Couldn’t say whether he was a “bad bad man” though. Maybe, despite being an ahole, he still did more good than harm. I’m sure many of his former players etc would say so. He was much too complicated a figure for me to judge

He likely shaped more athletes into men than most coaches.

The biggest thing I noticed with Coach Knight was inability to accept that players were becoming a bigger part of the game than his game plan and his coaching.

When the one and done started to gain foothold in the game players were becoming bigger than coaches. Even more so today. He couldn’t accept this and it began to impact the team’s results. When you have to win this is going to cause problems.

Impossible to say why, but I’d say ego and hubris did him in. The losing and seeing him slip from the top of the mountain made him angry and frankly irrational to a point where he had to get canned from the school where he is a legend. That was hard to watch.

Not sure if I’m included in this but I am a huge Knight fan. Loved that guy and he did many amazing things outside of Basketball and of course has all time legend status as a coach.

That doesn’t mean he is above criticism. He focked up a lot. Was a pretty tragic figure at the end of his run at IU. Consumed by hate and incapable of self discipline that he demanded of everyone else.

Glad it wasn’t the way he “coached” as the reason.

One and done’s weren’t the loyal player he desired.  Can’t fault a guy for that. In fact, that was the beginning of the end of college sports to me. Now, it all about the NIL. The hell with winning just show me the money.

If he doesn’t want to have those players that is fine, if you can’t win that is also fine. But for someone like Knight where winning meant everything I’d call that a failure to adapt.

Because it really bothered me at the time that he (Knight) would lend his name and legacy to such a bigot. It still does. It was a shameful thing. To promote such a bigoted man is dishonorable.

And I recognize that.

When I was in HS I had a gym teacher that was basically Bobby knight Jr. Huge ahole, bullied kids, harbored grievances, etc. etc. But he got through to me, accurately assessed that I was a bit of a b1tch and never gave it my all, and appropriately dressed me down for it. I probably owe a decent amount of my success (such as it is) to him. And I was certainly not the only one.

Afresh I graduated he got fired for stealing money from the school and then later convicted of sexually assaulting a disabled woman (not at the school, at least). So he definitely was a bad dude in the end, but I also know he did some good.

Bobby Knight, late in life, chose to make himself a political figure. That was his decision.

You are the moral equivilent of the Westboro Baptists folks who like to demonstrate outside the funerals of fallen vets saying inflamatory things about them.  They say it is their right to do so, to seek out folks who are morning a passing and to try to anger them.  You have done so here.  You could have easily started a thread about your opinion  rather than bring it here. You brought it here intentionally.

Loved Knights style.   I played basketball in HS and our coach coached at the school 30 some years.   He was a bit of a "hard ass" but he knew basketball.   He wasn't over the top crazy but he would let you know if you were going through the motions.  He was respected but not always well liked.  I took to tough coaching.   I wasn't the best player on the team maybe 3rd my senior year.  A PG who didn't score a ton but knew what was going on passed and played defense.    I never minded him calling us out in practices if we weren't practicing hard.  Only way you can get ready for a game.

I think Knight was a bit of a hotdog that would show people up.  But most times he had good reason.  I can do without the physicality towards players but the 70s and 80s were different times.

His career is a great example of how soft we have become as a society.    He was always a hard ass.   And he won, a lot, everywhere he went.   Because kids took to it.   Today that isn't possible because of emotions and victim mentality.   Also today you can't speak your mind.  Coaches want to say a lot more than they do but have to bite their tongue.   Everyone's looking to cancel.
