Dolly Parton's rock album

Recommended Posts

She reluctantly accepts entry into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame and then pulls together a bunch of rock legends to record a monster rock album with covers that include "Stairway to Heaven" and concludes with "Freebird," recorded with Skynyrd, of course.

Paul McCartney, John Fogerty, Anne Wilson, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Elton John, Rob Halford and many others are on this thing.

It's not something I'd listen to more than a couple of times, but I gotta give her credit for having the balls to do it, particularly with "Stairway to Heaven" and "Freebird" on there. And titling the album "Rockstar."

🤣

  • "Rockstar"
  • "World on Fire"
  • "Every Breath You Take," featuring Sting
  • "Open Arms," featuring Steve Perry
  • "Magic Man (Carl Version)," featuring Ann Wilson
  • "Long As I Can See The Light," featuring John Fogerty
  • "Either Or," featuring Kid Rock
  • "I Want You Back," featuring Steven Tyler
  • "What Has Rock And Roll Ever Done For You," featuring Stevie Nicks
  • "Purple Rain"
  • "Baby, I Love Your Way," featuring Peter Frampton
  • "I Hate Myself For Loving You," featuring Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
  • "Night Moves," featuring Chris Stapleton
  • "Wrecking Ball," featuring Miley Cyrus
  • "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," featuring P!nk and Brandi Carlile
  • "Keep On Loving You," featuring Kevin Cronin
  • "Heart of Glass," featuring Debbie Harry
  • "Don't Let The Sun Go Down on Me," featuring Elton John
  • "Tried To Rock and Roll Me," featuring Melissa Etheridge
  • "Stairway To Heaven," featuring Lizzo and Sasha Flute
  • "We Are The Champions/We Will Rock You"
  • "Bygones," featuring Rob Halford
  • "My Blue Tears," featuring Simon Le Bon
  • "What's Up?" featuring Linda Perry
  • "You're No Good," featuring Emmylou Harris and Cheryl Crow
  • "Heartbreaker," featuring Pat Benater and Neil Giraldo
  • "Bittersweet," featuring Michael McDonald
  • "I Dreamed About Elvis," featuring Ronnie McDowell
  • "Let It Be," featuring Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr
  • "Free Bird," featuring Lynyrd Skynyrd

Kinda fed up with these American Idol type doings. A cover is great. An album of covers we have heard thousands of times is lame. With or without you? That song sucked in 87 and it’s gotten worse somehow.

As I said, this isn't an album I'll listen to more than once or twice, but I think it's hilarious that her response to getting into the hall, where she didn't think she belonged, was putting out a rock album that includes a bunch of legendary rock stars.

It certainly rises above "American Idol" territory and is more than just some covers album.

Read something recently that she has written over two thousand songs. Pretty impressive.

I bet there's some excellent stuff on there. Sometimes hearing a fresh take on a song you love but never want to hear again rekindles your initial love of it.

Dolly Parton is one of those few acts that transcends genre preferences; she's a goddam national treasure.

It’s all covers. So how is it more than a covers album?

Bono was doing a concert in Ireland and he led the crowd in a slow clap. He said “every-time we clap, a child in Africa dies from starvation “. An Irishman then yelled out “then stop fookin clapping”

You don't see it as more than just a covers album when the likes of Elton John, John Fogerty, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Joan Jett, Anne Wilson, Rob Halford, Pat Benatar and half of the focking Beatles are on it with her, not to mention having the balls to do "Stairway" and "Freebird," two of the all-time greatest rock songs.

🤣

:dunno:

I thought it was a good cover.

Lions had a rap guy, I don't know if I'm getting numb to  it or it was less awful than most but I didn't reach for the mute button very quickly. It took me a while to come to my senses and realize I had stupid rap on TV

It was an 80 year old lady in a cheerleader uniform, lip synching.

It was an abomination.

I was debating that with myself. Put a 12 pack in me and it on!!!  I'd definitely have fun with her knocks.
