I'm still too young to really have a tremendous impression of the carter's.   My earliest presidential recollections were of the Reagan's while in elementary school.

This and this. Her husband was considered a decent and honorable person but ineffective as president. I barely remember him and I know even less about her.

IMO, he is one of the best ex-presidents we've ever had. They always seemed to be trying to do some good for the country and the world.

This. Rosalynn, by all accounts, was a sweet person who lived a full life.  Fantastic southern belle name btw.  Rest in Peace.

I met Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford when they were doing their debate tour in the mid-1980s. Both super nice dudes.

Carter and Rosalyn were classy, gentle souls. The Iran hostage crises and the botched, fatal rescue attempt - and facing Ronald Reagan - doomed his chances of a second term. 

Carter came along at a time when the nation was still embarrassed over the whole Richard Nixon thing.
