I remember getting into this 20 years ago.  The articles of succession literally say they are seceding over the right to own slaves.

Call it states rights if you want, but it's a distinction without a difference.  It was for the southern state's right to own slaves.

Why is her understanding of the cause or causes of the Civil War relevant to her running for office today?  Are we attempting to extrapolate from her statement or lack of statement something about how she percieves Blacks?  Are we worried that those who don't understand history are doomed to repeat it, as if slavery is an issue today?  What is the worry or the intellectual or moral indictment here?
