seafoam1 3,024 Posted March 5, 2024 ...rather than having Russel Wilson on their team anymore. $39M this year, and the rest next year. They gave up 2 firsts, 3 players, and massive contract for Wilson. And now...don't let the door hit you in the ass Russ. From what is being said, the guy is just hated by the players and coaches in Dever.

You can bench the guy for performance reasons but don’t threaten benching unless he modified his contract. Yeah he’s a millionaire. The controlling owner of the Broncos was chairman of Walmart so I’m not too worried about him either.

I hope the NFLPA roasts Denver. I think you're missing something there. Think about all of the absolutely great quarterbacks who have voluntarily restructured their contract to benefit the team. - it's not like they knocked on the owner's door and said hey I want less money. Those stories are reported as "Tom Brady voluntarily agreed to restructure his contract..." RW already had a sweetheart deal. I seriously doubt they just walked up to him one day and said " hey here's our terms. agree to them or sit down." There is no mention of any negotiation or flexibility coming from the Wilson camp. Given the egregious amount of money that he had already received not to mention was slated to continue to receive, and the fact that he had that played well by any stretch, he should have done like Alex Smith did and said "hey whatever it takes to keep me on the team". Good Riddance says I !!

Good Riddance says I !! Basing this all on assuming what Russ said was true: Why should he restructure? He hadn’t even finished Year 2 of a 5-year deal and played pretty well last year statistically. If he’d outplayed his 5-year contract after 1.5 years and demanded a raise everybody would roast him. The Broncos are fine to restructure but “Restructure or we bench you” isn’t a negotiation. I’d tell them to go pound sand too. The way it worked out is the way it should be. Denver wants him gone, Russ plays elsewhere. Now they can pay him $40m per. It’s their own fault for making that stupid trade in the first place. em.

He averaged 204 yards passing per game with a 6.9 avg per pass. I guess that's not what Denver expected when they gave up 2 #1s, 2 #2s and a massive 5 year contract. Plus he was a little bltch that isolated him from his teammates and coaches. Boy, what a great year.

To sum it up using different words thry benched him in a bit of a lost season to avoid getting burnt by those clauses. If this is in fact what happened....I see no problem. If the Broncos benched Wilson solely for performance reasons the NFLPA wouldn’t get involved. The NFLPA says that threatening to bench him unless he forfeit salary guarantees violates the collective bargaining agreement. If that’s what Denver did I bet they have a case and get fined or possibly forfeit a draft pick. Let’s say Russ overperformed his contract and threatened to not play unless Denver renegotiated less than 2 years into a 5-year deal. The fans would roast him and rightfully so. I don’t see how this is much different. It’s playing out the way it should. Denver is on the hook for their own stupid deal, Russ plays somewhere else and the NFLPA files a complaint.
