False.

A “boy band” is one where the boys are selected and put together by a producer, who basically controls everything about the band. Also their music is written by other people who are simply trying to appeal to the greatest number of people. In other words, there is nothing real or organic about them

Wrong as always, my friend:

Beastie Boys[a] were an American hip hop/rap rock[2] group from New York City, formed in 1981.[3]The group was composed of Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz (vocals, guitar), Adam "MCA" Yauch(vocals, bass), and Michael "Mike D" Diamond(vocals, drums, programming). Beastie Boys were formed out of members of experimental hardcore punk band The Young Aborigines, which was formed in 1979, with Diamond on drums, Jeremy Shatan on bass guitar, John Berry on guitar, and Kate Schellenbach later joining on percussion.[4]When Shatan left New York City in the summer of 1981, Yauch replaced him on bass and the resulting band was named Beastie Boys. Berry left shortly thereafter and was replaced by Horovitz.

Also a pretty sad boyband

Beastie Boys sold over 50 million records worldwide

NSYNC has sold over 70 million records worldwide

New Kids on the Block sold over 80 million albums worldwide

The Backstreet Boys have sold over 130 million albums worldwide

Even the band Poison sold 65 million records world wide

You were right about the Beastie Boys, but you're wrong here.  I have no idea what Taylor Swift does in concert because I have no desire to see her in concert.  But the BANDS that I DO go see sure as hell don't pipe anything in.  What type of performers do YOU go see in concert?

Back in 2012 the e street bands mixer said they were about the only live music left.

You think that’s gotten better in the intervening 12 years? 😂

I love live concerts, but if it’s a big venue you have to accept that it’s likely somewhere between 50-99% prerecorded. The stakes and expectations are simply too high

I’m not a fan either but I think it’s one of those things where you just have to accept that it’s not your bag. Plenty of folks far more knowledgeable than I say they’re geniuses :dunno:

Well and then you have edjr 😂

I also can’t stand Dave Matthews but I disagree bigly on U2. They do have some mediocre junk out there simply due to too much volume, but they’re great stuff is truly great imo

Which doesn't mean a manufactured "boy band" can't turn out to be good (see The Monkees).

That said, whatever one thinks of their music, The Beastie Boys do not come close to qualifying as a boy band.

I think DMB is average, I wouldn't go to a concert but I don't change the station if they play his music.

He plays the music at his concerts though, there are people that collect the different live performances.

Paul’s Boutique, Check Your Head and Ill Communication are all bangers. The last 2 include a lot of instruments that I he Beastie Boys played live.

Oh, well if some sound engineer none of us have ever heard of, in an article where the only other example they cite is One Direction, says it it must be true.  WTF is wrong with you?

Some terrible takes in here.  The Beastie Boys were an extremely influential rap act who changed their musical style album after album.  They could have stayed the kind of pop rap that made License To Ill a 10M seller.  Instead they swapped producers and started making music they thought was innovative rather than what would sell the best.

And did someone really dare to disparage the Ramones?

Yeesh this place just has terrible take after terrible take.

Jesus. The last show you went to was 30 years ago? That sucks.

I'm also jealous since I never got to see them.
