I think it's a little naive to say the VP does nothing more than cheerlead for the President. 

If Kamala was nothing more than an optics VP because the democratic party needed someone younger, female and of color to pair with old white Joe, then I would again ask "what makes her more qualified to run our country this time around?" If she only spent the last 4 years nodding, smiling, cackling and putting on her pearl earrings. 

Now with that said, I believe common sense tells us that any VP, Kamala, Pence, etc does not deserve to be 100% pigeonholed based on their term as VP but I absolutely think it's fair game to expect them to be questioned on it, criticized on aspects and praised on aspects. I think they would consider it 4 important years of their political resume.
