CNN just announced: Kamala has selected Tim Walz of Minnesota.

Very surprised by this. But I hope it works out.

Great move.  Shapiro is a future POTUS candidate but needs to get that Governorship term under his belt.  Walz doesn't have designs on the POTUS seat, is appealing to us Centrists and has an attack dog streak in him. On the campaign, he'll clown Trump and Vance relentlessly while providing blue collar cred.

What a rise by Walz. He has more Governor experience than Shapiro, military reservist, Congressman.

I guess what got him the gig was his interviews. Dude has been killing those.

Served in the military with medals…former school teacher. Very big on helping veterans.

And yet watched Minnesota burn during the BLM/Antifa insurrections of the last few years.  That is very sad considering he's a veteran.

Not sure how he's going to get out from under that.

Here’s an article about it from 2020:

Called in the National Guard. Sounds like he did the best he could under the circumstances. I doubt this will be a thing at all.

My first medal was earned in elementary school in first grade. I got a gold star for deportment and one for attendance.  Walz did as well, but in the national guard.

I go to Minn about once a quarter. One of the better cities in the US. Very nice town, great food, good parks, public art throughout the downtown, nice neighborhoods close to the city, great people.

If only it wasn’t 2 degrees in winter.

So you have been there during the January thaw.  those don't last long and the temps plummet back to their normal ranges.

Well he never saw combat but he was deployed. Maybe because I didn’t serve myself, I tend to admire anyone who has.

Is Joe still in charge?  Has the nuke codes?  The Left seems OK with just brushing this under the rug for the next 6 months.  Nothing to see here, we've just got a brain-dead president.

If Kamala doesn't 25th his ass, she is implicitly saying she doesn't have the chops to make tough decisions.

She wants nothing to do with calling the shots before the election.

And for all we know he served with bone spurs which could have reduce a lesser man to seeking deferments.

When I was a kid in the 1970s my whole family were LA Rams fans. Went to some games at the Colisseum. Rams had a great team, every year they’d go 10 and 4. Pat Haden, Jack Youngblood, Lawrence McCutcheon- great team.

Then in the playoffs every year they would head to Minnesota and had to play outside in January- and that was the end of the Rams. I remember thinking as a kid that Minnesota was where the Rams went to die.

Would be the perfect time for China to take Taiwan but they won’t because Trump would win the election and reap the whirlwind on them 1/21/25.

I'm assuming he will help a little in the midwest with name appeal. A little surprised she went with the more progressive pick.

CNN

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has been selected as Kamala Harris’ running mate, according to multiple sources.

Walz spent more than two decades in the Army National Guard, which included a deployment overseas after the 9/11 attacks, working as an educator and coach, before shockingly defeating a six-term Republican incumbent congressman in 2006, a wave year for Democrats.

Walz remained when the tide rolled out, reelected to the typically red district repeatedly until he left to run for his current job in 2018. (The seat quickly returned to GOP control after his departure.)

Walz’s six years in charge of Minnesota have seen a remarkable series of political and social upheaval. First came the Covid-19 pandemic and then, in its midst, the murder of George Floyd by a White police officer, which set off global anti-racist demonstrations. Walz navigated it all – alongside more usual complaints over wasteful spending – well enough that, by the beginning of 2023, he was leading a Democratic trifecta in the state government.

In the time leading up to his selection as Harris’ running mate, Walz had first been an outspoken defender of Joe Biden following his disastrous debate performance as calls for the president to end his reelection bid escalated. When Biden did drop out, Walz endorsed Harris the next day and has since emerged as a reliable, energetic and cutting advocate for the presumptive Democratic nominee.

Picking Walz underscores the Harris campaign’s focus on a path to victory that puts a premium on the “blue wall” states of the Midwest. Minnesota is slightly outside that sphere, but Walz, once a high school football coach, has evolved during his time in office into something of a progressive populist folk hero – the exact kind of pugilistic voice that Democrats taking on Trump are keen to highlight.

He has over the past week delivered a handful of memorable haymakers against Republicans, though his most notable contribution has been a determination to label the GOP, especially its presidential ticket of Trump and Ohio Sen. JD Vance. Walz has referred to the duo as “weird dudes,” before lighting into their political agenda.

I remember Bud grant coaching those teams out at the old Met while weqring a golf polo shirt while everbody else had frozen bloodcicles hanging from their bodies.  The purple people eaters were ferocious. Page, Eller, Marshall and Larsen.  At one time or another I met them all.  Page ended up on ther Minnesota Supreme Court.  Unfortunately for the vikings the Superbowls were held in temperate climes and they melted away like the winter snows in thsoe games.

Shapiro to win PA makes all the electoral sense in the world unless she's afraid picking someone Jewish will lose too many Arab votes in Michigan.  It's not even subtle, John King openly said as much on CNN, and he's right.

What I’m reading is that he’s a really dynamic speaker- folksy and funny. If this is true (I’ve never heard him) then Walz will make an impression at the convention and won’t be a “meh” at all. But we’ll see.
