An East Oakland, California neighborhood has been left with unpaved streets for weeks after construction crews refused to finish the job over safety concerns, according to reports.

OAKLAND, Calif. - A construction crew returned to an East Oakland neighborhood to finish repaving streets after the job was abruptly abandoned.

Residents in the Sobrante Park neighborhood told KTVU that a construction team contracted by the city was back out on Thursday adding tar to the roads that had been stripped by another crew who ditched the job over safety concerns.

The project resumed days after local news reports aired.

I’ve spent almost 30 years in some of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the country, and I’ve never heard of a paving crew doing this. Not shocking though.

I guess it hasn't changed much then. I was there back in 1990. 

The story was in the news that the ghetto dwellers were actually starting the fires and waiting to attack the fire trucks. It was a massive local story otherwise I probably wouldn't have even known about it since I watched zero tv and listened to little radio. 

Some news guy got wind of what was going on and followed the fire trucks into these shlt neighborhoods so he could film what was happening. The one video I saw was the firefighters being pummled with rocks and fire bombs as they arrived on the scene and the decision was made to stop sending the trucks out to certain neighborhoods.
