Mike Honcho 5,281 Posted June 25, 2024 I don't care what anyone wants to be called as long as it's grammatically correct. People who call themselves they, them---fock off, you're one person. Hell, you don't know how many voices I have going on in my head and I don't say we, us. We all have to have our lines.

kilroy69 1,250 Posted June 25, 2024 I have a 10 year old son that has a pair of twin cousins.. One of them has insisted that she is a boy (after a stay in a mental insinuation for trying to kill herself) I tell my son the same thing over and over. She has a mental illness. We are not going to be mean to her but we also do not have to participate in her mental illness.

Last year only the older one stayed with us, as the younger one was too depressed/anxious to leave the house. I hated the idea of calling her by a boy name. They have beat me down and now I call them by what they want.
TimHauck 2,876 Posted June 25, 2024 How close are their given names to their preferred names? Do they actually have boys haircuts etc and look like boys or just go by those names? Val could be a girl’s name also fwiw

What if she had anxiety that was triggered by your dog, would you bring the dog around her anyway? What if she was suicide, would you still tell her to kill herself as a joke, because you're not participating in her mental illness? 1

I don't know if it is or not to be honest, nor does it matter. If a person tells you they are depressed, you don't tell them "no you're not you freak", same way if a girl tells you that they feel like a boy. It's called common decency and treating others with respect, treating people the way you would want to be treated.

It just encourages them to stay the course. I agree with you. You can treat someone with common decency and respect without aiding a delusion. It's not an either/or situation so that if you don't totally comply to that delusion that you are actively mistreating them. If anything I think we mistreat them by turning a blind eye to their illness rather than trying to help.

You obviously don't know anything about mental illness. Their feelings are their feelings, and it's not a matter of participating in their mental illness, it's validating their feelings and what they're going through. You might not agree with it, but you don't get to make that choice for someone else. Just like if someone had bulimia and they made themselves vomit, you're not going to deny that it happened.

Hardcore troubadour 15,433 Posted June 25, 2024 Gotta love when Gutterboy starts spouting his nonsense. “Their feelings are their feelings” “you wouldn’t deny (throwing up) happened. Hey idiot, the throwing up isn’t the mental illness. It’s a result of it. What you don’t do is tell the anorexic that yes, they are fat. Which is what you’re doing.
